AMC and OLTL Canceled!

I guess for me, if a network is in such bad shape that even the person running the network is talking about its problems and her regrets, then there's nothing wrong with assuming the network needs help. This is also the second network Oprah has been involved in that has had a rough time.

Julia Roberts doesn't have a show, it's a documentary on moms featuring Hilary Clinton and some other people. I don't believe she's in it, she just produced it and narrates it.

Honestly? It seems like a waste of time to debate this with those who don't have or have never seen the network. I'm not sure how this could be a real conversation of value. That's like me, having never seen an episode of AMC, trying to debate with people why it sucks because I read an article Nelson Branco wrote saying it sucks. That makes sense how? I don't get how you can give an opinion on what a network needs if you've never seen any show at all on the network. Well I guess everyone has an opinion, but it's like trying to explain all of the issues and changes that need to be made in a Ron Howard film that you've never seen before.

Wait...I have seen The OWN network. I watch it all the time! I personally love it...I was just saying it seems the rest of the world...doesn't.

I don't get OWN. The only show I wish I wasn't missing is the behind the scenes one because I'm nosy like that.

Of course assuming it needs help makes sense, it's the "Well, OWN needs to do x, y, and z" when you haven't seen it part that doesn't make sense to me.

Oh yeah I know it has some issues. I just don't see how, at this point in time, scripted programming is the answer. They don't even have a set schedule/lineup yet and still have a ton of shows that are already in the can and have yet to premiere.

I don't get OWN. The only show I wish I wasn't missing is the behind the scenes one because I'm nosy like that.

That and 'Our America' IMO are the best shows on the network right now. Behind the Scenes makes Oprah a lot more likable and down to earth and less obnoxious than she often comes across on her show.

I haven't given a long list of programming suggestions for OWN. All I have said is I think the network could benefit from a scripted program. I'm sorry if that is presumptuous.

There's no reason to apologize or anything, I just think it's a merry-go-round type of convo at this point.

I was looking for the clip, in the first eppy she tells Terri McMillan's husband that he seems "gayer" or "more gay" this time on her show then he did first time he appeared. After the show they had a big debate in the office about whether that was offensive or not and whether it was going to be a PR issue. It was a really interesting conversation cause it was a really honest episode (especially when they called one of her employees who is gay in and he said to Oprah "Hell yeah that's offensive, what if I said you seemed blacker today than you did yesterday" ). It seems a lot more authentic than the ass-kissy nature of her actual show.

It was fun with Strasser in the beginning, but someone needs to send this woman to a mental institution for the elderly now.

I wouldn't give two sh!ts if she never got another role at this point. Oprah doesn't owe her or any soap fan anything. She simply stated the truth or what any head of any network would tell you about producing a daily soap.

+1.

I don't. I care about the fact that she's attacking a woman who ain't did sh!t to her. That's not productive by any stretch of the imagination. If gunning for Oprah had even the most remote chance of saving these shows, improving them both by LEAPS AND BOUNDS in a wide variety of areas (those very same areas that we've been complaining about for years -- the areas of immense problem that seem to have been ignored or swept under the rug in the last week by people desperate to keep these shows around, even in the sh!tty condition that we've ALL generally agreed that they're in), then fine, Robin, take her out back and beat her ass. But that's not gonna solve a ding dang thing, it makes Robin look messy, and it makes the entire soap fanbase look horrible. Her attacking Oprah accomplishes those things. It does not accomplish anything actually related to the soaps.

Pretty much.

But she doesn't HAVE to and she doesn't WANT to. She's not obligated to save this [!@#$%^&*] and I have no idea how people have the nerve to get upset with her about this. Oprah is a cotdamn billionaire, none of us are, and while OWN may have some problems, I would trust that she's making the best decision for herself and her brand as she has for 25 damn years.

Seriously.

Warren Buffett & Richard Branson are rich.

Go harass them.

LMAO at how they pegged Lucci's next job in there

On a side note, I love how they used the same "F you" image of Viki that I used in my mock cover

LOL, so they're telling Kelly Ripa and The View ladies to shut up about the cancellations. It's a network debacle.

Didnt this originate in Page 6? I wouldnt put much stock in it to be honest.

She's been in entertainment a while, I'm sure she's used to crazy people asking her for various things. While I think she misses the point that many people would like them to be aired in the evenings when more people are home, as apposed to continuing during the day, she makes a great point that the audiences of these shows have eroded so much, that nobody is going to want to revitalize these soap operas. And If someone were too, I think they'd just create their own & start from scratch.

While I agree that people are crazy for going after her in this "Save Our Soaps" campaign or whatever you want to label it, I kind of get a little enjoyment of seeing Oprah squirm in this scenario. People talk about Frons and dangling carrots in front of naive fans....

Where did you see her squirm in that video? She was straight forward and to the point

So. Much. Truth.

I say bring those bitches to the TV Guide Network.

How high could their expectations be?

The expectations do not much matter. What matters is the money to pay for them, then the audiance to wacth them, and the sales ads to be greater than the cost for the network to turn a profit. Oh, and before any of that ABC has to actually sell the shows.

So Robin has met the line; attacking Oprah. LOL! I f Robin is so offended by ABC why doesn't she really take a stand, quit, and say what she has to say? All she does is tweet snarky comment. It is cowardly and pathetic.

Seriously though, here's how I draw the line: conventions of any sort are group experiences that are about connecting with other fans and celebrating a common interest. Dressing up for soap weddings is a solitary, isolating practice. These boards at least provide some measure of socialization and connection. Unfortunately, this "campaign" has turned from a group activity to a MOB activity. It's about attacking, bullying and punishing. It's one thing to share memories about the show you love. It's another to call Rachael Ray a bitch just because she wished a couple of her chef friends good luck with their new show.

And with every mob, there are fringe elements that go too far. Based on the hysterical tone of some of the posts on SON and elsewhere, it is clear that there are people who have no perspective about the cancellation of two television shows. Add these people with the mental unbalanced and I worry about the endless focus on Brian Frons and now Oprah that I see online. It is whipping up a frenzy where anything can happen and then people will claim they are not responsible. It is way past the time to pull back in the crazy.

*sigh* Strasser is doing exactly what I was afraid she'd do when she joined Twitter. She's flaming out. She's tweeting too much, too often and she's so drunk on the number of followers she has that she's beginning to act like a cult leader. She could do a lot of good but not by tweeting every angry thought she has.

She's coming across crazy. Not a good look for her.

LOL! At first, I read your post as "she was drunk when she tweeted." Strasser better be careful. Most public figures can be criticized, but criticizing Oprah is dangerous business. If she thinks that soap fans are devoted, she has never met Oprah's fans.
