Really? Because I don't see how anyone can think they're sane. This is no different than the stereotypical soap fan who sits home in a formal dress just because her favorite couple is getting married that day. Unfortunately, these are the people that the media always focuses on when talking about soaps and who watches them.

not at all. I don't even care for Oprah much, don't watch her show, and looking at her stable of programs I find it more of the insulting bland pablum that is the real bane of TV. Gayle King? Dr Phil? No thanks. And the dross she runs on her network deserves all the horrible ratings it gets. But I don't think that those who do love their soaps so much they would move heaven and earth are losers for trying.

I can't crucify the campaigners like the rest of you, because I was in their shoes when AMC made Josh the unabortion. No, I didn't take it as far as this has gone, but I was desperate for anyone who had the power to stay, "STOP!" to make it happen, and I tried to help that happen.

But now that's its said and done, all I remember is Megan McTavish basically saying she has the power. Sit down. Shut the hell up. And deal with it. <--- No matter how much people want to think they might be able to win, it doesn't matter who those words are coming from, they're ultimately the truth. :(

What an arrogant bitch. No wonder Frons kept her as long as he did. The thing is, despite her arrogance, the difference between her and Frons is that she did care for the genre. As twisted as her admiration was, she did care for it. I am sure she was quite devastated when the announcement came down, even though she has blood all over her hands.

I agree with you. While I'm not campaigning myself, for those who are, more power too them. Like you said, campaigns are supposed to be annoying. Nobody's going to listen to you if you're all Oliver Twist & nicely ask "Please sir, I'd like some more?" Gotta speak up and demand what you want, even if you get a million doors slammed in your face.

LOL were people bothering Oprah that bad? There were hundreds of messages on her site asking her to pick up the soaps. I even left some even though I knew she would say no. At least she was nice enough to leave us a message explaining to us why. Honestly, the only reason why people are asking her was because she had that soap opera episode and she stated how she was a fan.

I didn't make that up. I read an old interview about soap opera fans where the interviewee took the day off of work and got dressed up for the wedding of her favorite couple and drank champagne after they said "I do."

And THAT is the difference. This has gone too far. Next they'll be demanding HSN air the soaps because they're a fan of Susan Lucci. Does it matter that HSN doesn't do scripted programming? No! They'll force them to save the soaps.

I think the reason these campaigners are being jumped on is because with all the facts presented, the fight seems rather futile at this point. I know, an oppressive regime just won't fall on its own, but these are corporations, not governments. Corporations based on a competitive free-market economic framework.... they are doing waht they think will give them the most bang for their buck. Money talks, not deranged soap fans.

Some people who are campaigning are going too far. Those people I find crazy. If someone chooses to write and complain, but doesn't obsess I'm okay with it. Some of the people who are campaigning may be in denial about the situation and not able to face it. This gives them something to do as part of the process of grief.

I never dressed formally for soap weddings, but that doesn't mean I haven't stayed home to watch one. ;)

One little thing about Oprah, you know if soaps aren't on perhaps she realizes some will be watching OWN instead of ABC. Increase ratings for her cheap stuff, though I wish someone would give us scripted serialized shows that didn't suck and aired more than 13 times a year. I haven't liked a prime time soap in forever...

But the problem for Disney/ABC isn't Frons. ABC isn't blaming him for the reaction to the cancellation and it is not likely to toss him over the side because of any bad PR which is the Post article suggests. I am sure that ABC is quite happy to let Frons take one for the team and wait out the furor.

You can't believe it? I believe it. The lack of perspective from some of the online soap fans including quite a few on this thread ...
