AMC and OLTL Canceled!

Good memory. She'd probably turn down their offer anyway as she has in the past, but if they're going to honor their strong socially conscious roots before it's all over, she's the one to go with (and Carla's story is the closest to AN's heart). As seen by the 40th anniversary, the late '80s are OLTL's "legacy" indeed and that's cool though because I mean... what are you gonna do? The show was restructured around the Bukes and lots of people and ties got lost in the shuffle. See, with folks like Phoebe and Myrtle still around on AMC, we got the visits from the "long forgotten" like Kitty and Linc. Look at how character rich AMC's anniversaries have been in comparison to One Life's. It's interesting how the two shows took different paths in that way, mainly due to OLTL's EPs tendencies to torch the place and rebuild.

Geez, I really hope no one has placed money on an Ellen Holly return. Sure it'd be nice to see her for old times sake, but Carla's not even remotely tied to anyone on the canvass. Unless they make her insta-related to Deanna LOL, but I'm sure that would never happen.

I doubt anyone is that delusional. Except for maybe Nelson and Jamey.

I do hope they have the sense to bring back Tina for a visit though. It's awful that that they would bring back Howarth but screw over AE and the character she played.

I can't help but laugh at the irony that after all the young male characters that have come and gone, OLTL is going to go off the air with the character of CJ Roberts never having seen the light of day in almost 20 years. All the fanfic and demands for his return, yet it's like he never existed. I guess being part of a core family only goes so far.

Unless Genie Francis is unavailable (b/c she's still on Y&R). In which case, it'll be Luke and her stand-in, the utility mop.

If JFP isn't butthurt about GF having the nerve to take work on another soap.

Re: CJ and even Sara, see, I would take those characters first and foremost over all of the scragglers who've come and gone (and stayed <_< ). They should be further extensions of the show's core with the non-related characters bouncing off of them instead of deciding to force the Rexes and Davids of the world into the family. I'm sure the children have issues with their mother but a scene where one of them calls out Viki for dissing their mother and kissing Todd's ass... I would have loved that. Imagine Viki's "humina-humina" trying to defend that.

These days on soaps the characters and stories are so empty, I wouldn't care if they just killed off most of the cast, offcamera, and spent the rest of the time on the past. With OLTL, I've already seen years of unwatchable stories with Jessica, Todd, Tea, Rex, Gigi, the Fords, John - seeing even more examples of why OLTL was canned just makes me feel like they are marking time.

With ATWT, Goutman didn't bring back a lot of previous characters because they supposedly had such story to wrap up, but it was clumsily apparent that this "story" amounted to stuff like, "Let's give Julie Pinson's husband a job," and, "Let's do yet another ripoff of the old heart transplant story so everyone can see how awesome we are."

Laura is never coming back. More likely the ending would be Luke getting drunk and bitterly ranting at viewers for being stupid and pathetic.

That's what I was thinking. We might even have a Sonny and Jason marriage. There is no way Guza would give GH fans another Luke and Laura wedding as the finale for the show.

I just say let Helena put a bomb in the Hospital and once it explodes with everyone in town in it for a big gala the screen goes black.... I wish Elizabeth Taylor was still alive as the original Helena to make the scene better

    • That's true. He may have ended up keeping her on a recurring basis, like Dr. Michaels on ATWT. I'm trying to remember if GL had a similar long-running therapist.
    • Oh in terms of ratings I think it would have been in a dicey place probably even before then. I mostly was just thinking of if the show could have carried on creatively.
    • Even if by some miracle Knots Landing continued, 1994/95 it would have been killed by ER.

    • Assuming that Marland had been allowed to write the Carrie story the way he'd envisioned, Millette would've been involved in the story. And she might've played a role in Andy Norris' return (if the speculation on that had ever materialized, and Marland loved bringing back bad boys) But he doesn't seem interested in Sara's personal life. And the women of Springfield could only be analyzed so much.
    • This better be something, because as I said, so far it's just cliches and stereotypes -- the story we've heard a thousand times about the homeless person who doesn't want a home and prefers to live on the streets.
    • @rsclassicfanforever thank you very much for the recent uploads of season 13 containing some episodes that were skipped or glitchy on YouTube!  I had a look at 3172 though and there is no audio for most of it? Would you have a copy with complete audio? Fingers crossed! Thanks again!

    • I like Margaret well enough in what I've seen of her as Paige - she is green but she has real star power.  I agree about the actor who plays Brian. He's...mostly just there. Not bad but not great.  My main issue is with the guy who plays Owen. He's just not appealing to me. I can believe Nola being obsessed with him, but he's draining to watch.  I'm surprised people objected to the quasi-incest elements as it wasn't anything that new for soaps.  Speaking of Kim, here's a rare episode of an anthology show she did called The Evil Touch.

    •   I get what you're both saying, and I think the show was lucky to have even made it that long, but I think they could have still maintained a certain audience - Second Chances did before the earthquake. CBS was an older network anyway. I think the premise of Knots was still usable, it was more the characters who were a problem - many of the older figures were played out. If the show had done a better job building up its younger cast instead of making so many poor choices in the late '80s and early '90s, they could have kept things going a little longer.
