If this is true and they place OLTL at 3PM it would be great to see who get the better ratings OLTL or GH LOL

Rumor from another board

Ok, I have to tell what I know. My cousin moved to LA after college and works in the entertainment industry. I wont say anything else about him as he is sworn to secrecy. However, he has kept me filled in on the whole AMC and OLTL cancellation for months. Sony is buying the shows, they have been in the deal since spring '10. Sony wants to own AMC and OLTL so they can sell them overseas like Days and Y&R. Currently ABC has never sold the shows to foreign countries. NBC has been looking for programming for it's afternoon schedule since Passions left but esp. since Jeff Zucker left. NBC has concluded that trying to create new reality based shows wont guarantee them a return on investment. As reality based programs wont differentiate them from the other networks, they want soaps. Comcast owns NBC and they can double their money by airing them online on comcast. Days was #8 in total streams over all television shows in January which is a big deal.

Well NBC will set standards as to what ratings they desire and such. OLTL is currently being produced cheaper than Days so I would think there wouldn't be many changes required as long as they maintain status quo. My source is pretty reliable as they are an employee of Sony. AMC will be forced to change it's production method to be more in line with the other soaps. They will have to decrease the amount of takes and will utilize cue cards to help the actors move faster through scenes. They will be required to do at least 70 pages per day average to bring them in line with the others.

Seriously I dont KNOW what to believe

I'm not sure whether you mean what the gap was when they changed networks (there was none, they aired on the old network on Friday, then the new network on the following Monday), or how long they lasted once they switched networks (Edge lasted another 9 years on ABC, 1975-84, or nearly 1/3 of its total 28 year run....while Search lasted another 4 years on NBC, 1982-86, or about 1/9 of its total 35 year run).

I think he means the gap between the original cancellation announcements and the pick-up announcements. Meaning, how long between "CBS Cancels Edge of Night" and "ABC Picks Up Edge of Night." Wasn't one of them an automatic thing? Like, P&G talked with the new network before the cancellation announcement was even made so that instead of a cancellation announcement, it was a change-of-network announcement. I could be totally wrong on that, though.

Plus, it's always seemed to me that in the 70s and 80s, soaps were usually given next to no time at all to wrap up storylines. Certainly not the nine months of airtime ATWT got. I think it's useless to compare AMC and OLTL's cancellations with any pre-AW soap cancellation. Things have changed tremendously.

In a way it would be funny if NBC, or someone else, picked up AMC and/or OLTL so that ABC would have to compete against their former shows. That would hilarious....especially if they were to air opposite The Chew and The Revolution.

Which is why I don't believe for a minute ABC would sell them to NBC, or CBS or FOX, for that matter. A cable network? Sure. But no way would Frons risk more egg on his face by selling either show to a competing broadcast network.

If NBC has made any inquiries to ABC, I'm sure Frons quoted them an astronomical unreasonable price.

A DAYS/OLTL block would remind me of DAYS/AW, actually. Weren't they opposite each other at one point? No?

I seriously, seriously doubt there is any truth to the rumor whatsoever, but it's an amusing thought. Unfortunately it would likely entail moving OLTL cross country, and the show's multigenerational ensemble would not survive that.

I don't know...it has happened before (EON, SFT)...not saying that it will now, but there is a precedent.

Again, that being said I do realize that the chance of it happening now is next to nothing....but crazier things have happened.

date: Tuesday, May 13 | Sara A. Bibel, Jazmen Darnell Brown | Anthony Pascarelli So Deadbeat's secret has to do with a car accident? At least Nicole is getting dressed. That's a sign of good things to come. Eva looks gorgeous in her sparkling pink number. Very age-appropriate and fashionable. So, Douglas is back to his gambling addictions and lying to Vanessa, and here comes Joey, ready to fully cash in on the debt owed to him. Jan, you look gullible, but do not let Dana continue to trick you into believing her sob story, because it's just that: a story. If you're going to eavesdrop on someone, maybe do not make it so apparent (i.e., the new character: Kenny). But at least Deadbeat isn't running for president anymore. That's a sigh of relief. Anastasia, the town gossip, is a mood. Hoping she's an occasional guest when things need to be spiced up a bit. So, Deadbeat is no hero? This is alluding to this big, bad secret that's being harboured. Interesting. "You is kind, you is smart, you is important." We love historical references, this time to The Help. Oh, the showdown face; Nicole's slight eyebrow lift at the sight of Ted and Eva. If Vanessa knew she'd be showing up with Dani, then she really should have given them a heads up about who was at the country club. Not Derek just throwing his nasty, dirty shirt on the ground. I would be completely pissed off... and I guarantee he's using all of the steamy hot water, and I would absolutely off him. He and his ugly-ass chair would be out of the home. Oh, so everyone knows about Anastasia, and I do adore her. She gives me Leanna Love from Y&R, but even juicier. Eva, don't beg Dana for forgiveness; she manipulated you most of all... and you deserve better. So Anatasia wants lip filler? Or is she hinting at something else...? Well, well, well... Joey's true colours are finally coming out, and not going to lie... I believe him. Dana putting on a show that makes her look even more psychotic than she actually is. Dougie boy, do not sell out Vanessa and her business. The anvils dropping about Dana's future in Fairmont Crest keep coming out more and more. Months to build debt and one week to pay it off? Sounds about right to me. Notes: Karla Mosley (Dani) was right during the premiere week: Dani would be leveled out, and these last few episodes have showcased that. It's nice seeing Mosley showcase some good range and the capability of everyday range, as well. Jon Lindstrom (Joey) is showing what a capable actor he is; GH only barely tapped into that during the long-winded, dragged-out Kevin Chamberlain revisit. Ambyr Michelle (Eva) continues to be the undisputed standout amongst the cast. She's going places. Brandon Claybon (Martin) and Ben Gavin (Derek) continue to be standouts in the most needing of being recast, immediately. We've now got a second year under our belt, so now is the time to tweak the casting on both roles. Although Derek could easily be written out via a fire or emergency via his job.
    • Typo as I am referring to Dani alone.
    • She's jealous and resentful that Bill didnt fight for her the way Ted is for Nicole
    • Trisha makes it so hard to hate Leslie. Missy is just getting started to unravel. Can not wait.
    • CharacterS, plural. Who besides Dani are you speaking of here? Just curious. Of course, could be the s is a typo.
    • Very happy we got Mona's reactions yesterday and now Jan's today.  I'm so happy they aren't forgetting these minor characters.
    • Some of this is just YMMV. For example, I couldn't be more positive about Dani. I believe she has avid fans like me, people like you who do not appreciate her & probably most people in the middle for varying reasons. I see a lot of people liking her BUT feeling she is one step forward & then two back.  And, then I am not as enamored of Leslie/Dana/Sheila/Sherry/Anna/Etc. as some are.  I think it's a good thing that there's a variety of opinions on specific characters! I picture this Venn diagram of us where as a whole we REALLY LIKE THE SHOW but like soap fans we don't agree about specifics. OH! I had an amazing encounter yesterday - a soap opera fan who hates the show. Turned out she was as racist as could be. UGH.  Otherwise, I loved the reveal & last Thursday & yesterday. Specifically yesterday I loved Dani, Anita, Nicole &  Mona.
    • Now Vernon feeling bad for Eva too. The Dupree women will NOT be happy with the men in their family
    • Ambyr Michelle continues to win! That scene with Martin was good, and nice to see him be nice to her like that. I'm very curious who the guy is spying on everyone at Orphey's.
