The Wendy Williams Thread

As much as I deplore gossip about a celebrity's health status, I am really sad for Wendy.  It was easy to see how much her television show meant to her and she must be really incapacitated to give it up for this long.  Given that she hosted in late summer without any noticeable cognitive difficulties,  her decline in health must have been precipitous.

That being said, I do not enjoy either Sherri Shepard (who tries to make Hot Topics into a joke-filled scripted late-night-type monologue) or Leah Remini (who seems to be only vaguely familiar with the topics she discusses) as substitutes.  To me, they both demonstrate how hard that job can be.

However, given the relative success of Kelly Clarkson, (and to a lesser degree Tamron Hall and Nick Cannon), I wonder if the next wave of talkshows will be headed by an individual or if the panel discussion format is played out for the moment?

I didn't know anything about Wendy's absence until I was just reading through these threads.  But I think they did paid audiences for The Revolution and maybe even The Chew.  I know they did the Revolution because similar - free $50 or $75 to sit there, a friend did it.  I remember hearing that at the end they did for The Chew also.

Still no return date set ?!?

I continue to be puzzled about her rapid decline from late summer when she last hosted the show to the fall start date that she did not show up for (apparently at the last minute).  Wendy has always been a bit scattered, but she held court for Hot Topics alone on stage for at least 20 minutes an episode.  So, it alarming that 4-6 weeks later she was no longer able to do so, and now four months later there has been no word on if she will ever be able to host again.

It is an ironic, but typical, NY Post headline because the it leads you to believe there are a lot of truths, and then the manager makes a statement at the end that there are no truths.

I tend to believe she is debilitated, and it is very sad, whether or not you agree with her, she was always entertaining and social, and yet she seems very alone during this struggle

Wendy has instructed lawyers to petition Wells Fargo to unfreeze a bank account containing several million dollars that the bank froze after reaching agreement with Wendy in November that Wells Fargo could freeze assets if it suspected dementia or financial exploitation:

    • Oh yes. The towel scene though
    • Interesting that Donald May has been mentioned twice. He's on my dreamcast list for Alan. He was somewhat older than Stewart and Bernau, but he could have played either role. An actor I thought about for Mike was Dan Hamilton. He played a role on GL during the 60s, but enough time had passed that it shouldn't have been a problem. He usually played smarmy characters but it would have been cool if they had gone against typecasting.
    • I like Jed Allan, it has to be someone who can play authority but "good" authority to oppose Alan's bad. As mentioned upthread, can you imagine how it would have been with Alan and Mike against each other, with Roger in the mix. But I would have had Roger, ever the opportunist to try to take advantage of their fighting to make his own headway.  Maybe that could have been the storyline, Mike involved with Alex, but the constant fighting with Alan causes a rift (she like Mike fighting Alan when it is to her advantage, but he can be a bit self righteous and I can see him demanding her to disavow Alan publicly..) so that is how Roger lands in her bed, much to the consternation of BOTH Alan and Mike. I would like to have a woman of a certain age being fought over by two men (really three if you count Alan.
    • Please let May have less garbage time. The Y&R threads have shrunken, whereas I can barely keep up with the Beyond the Gates threads.
    • The Liam cancer story was a failure from day one. It didn't start at point A but at a late point C. My aunt had brain cancer, and it isn't being told properly or correctly.
    • OMG, did Gio look good. Do not get me started on how good he looked. Lord. It's as if the writers realized Lulu had almost no scenes with her mother, so they wrote all this material for a 2-day Lulu/Laura therapy session. It was nice to see them connect, but I scratched my head yesterday when Lulu tried to connect her adoption story to Laura's life. That was a stretch to me, and I sign the writers were working overtime. Today, the script eventually got to the right place, but I thought it was overboard to see Lulu so worked up that she was near tears. That's investment in a story that's become an obsession.
    • Absolutely is.

    • I'm on record as being happy about the mature turn with these new writers, but that goes away every time I see Leo, who's apparently as big a favorite under these women as he was with RC. And yeah, Javi could work, but as long as he's with Leo, he sucks, too.
    • I find Javi so obnoxious and almost as insufferable as Leo, but I still think he might have potential.  The show needs to ditch the Leo romance and give Javi some other interests and relationships.
    • Leo is insufferable. Why is he still on this show?  Javi can leave too. He adds nothing to the show. So now Shawn is going to commit a crime?

      Everything Leo wears is ugly.
