You are going to LOVE the show!!! I was there for the taping and she (Oprah) handled this brilliantly. It's a real treat for those who love daytime drama and the actors. Oprah clearly has a real appreciation for them and what they do. The Tony/Genie reunion is really awesome, and she looks A-MAZING! Just wait until you see her. We could hardly believe it. A-MAZING!

Genie has been looking better, so I can't wait.

But Ron, you know very well NO ONE would do that except some tiny public access show. I'd love if they at least mentioned the danger soaps have been in or something--but to expect them to discuss poor writing, etc, is too much (I mean this is a show that pimps out the latest Hollywood actor no matter what dog they're in, etc). They only time she dicusses the negative is when she's promoting a "superior" positive- ie if she did have (Heaven help us) a Tyler Perry soap in the wings THEN she would mention how soaps have let down minorities *Oprah voice* "unnnntTTTTIIILLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW"

I am pleased to see so much focus on AMC--and surprised. Is this partly due to any leftover affection O has for the show?

What's wrong with a tyler perry soap, if you don't mind me asking?

Ummm... have you seen his sitcoms? I just don't feel like being preached to by Madea. Many would prob love it, but even on his worst day I'd rather Cameron M or... anyone...

I don't think TP's sitcoms are that bad, but any attempt at a soap from him would boil my f'n blood. "Lord knows a good mans is hard to find, child. You gots to take care of the one you got, child. You gots to irons his clothes and cooks his dinner and keeps his house clean, girl, mhm!! Ever since I was saved, child, alls I do is make sure my mans is well taken care of, mhm mhm mhm mhm."

I want to smack him at times.

Who was it that praised his films as being "fabulously soapy" or something a while ago? SoapBoy94? In the statuses. And a bunch of people agreed.

They take soap elements I suppose, since they're based on melodrama cliches? I find his work pretty repugnant--I refuse to see what he did to For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf. and yes I'm sure he's crying into his piggy bank at my condemnation.

There's a 99-page script online, legal, if you want to read it...

I think his stuff is very soapy, whether one's using a positive or negative definition of the word, but my main turn-off is all of the preaching that's based strongly in a widespread culture of hypocrisy, old-fashionedess, and "holier than thou" attitudes.

Watch this sh!t. WATCH IT. This chick is studying for an exam, and this big bitch is telling her she needs to cook and clean for her man in exchange for money and dick.

That's my prob too. By all rights it's exactly what Oprah (and Tyler himself...) should be preaching against. I don't think we need MORE attitudes like that on soaps?

  • Member

Yes, it is. :)

Found it--thanks! I'll have to compare it with the filmed PBS staging, it just seems like (race and gender issues aside) such alien subject matter for him to try to deal with in his superficial, judgemental way.

Chile so do I. Yes Lawd! *waves prayer scarf*

All kidding aside. Let Tyler Perry do a soap. He knows his audience and he gives them what they want which puts him ahead of the people making the dramatic equivalent of Taco Bell meat filling we currently have. Just as long as there are other soaps to choose from. The problem right now is that all the soaps are alike. Let Perry do "He May Not Come When You Wade in the Water but He'll Carry You To The Mountaintop" and let Carlivati do "The Chest Waxing Chronicles" and let somebody else do a supernatural soap, a rural soap, an underwater soap, whatever.

Watch this sh!t. WATCH IT. This chick is studying for an exam, and this big bitch is telling her she needs to cook and clean for her man in exchange for money and dick.

*hugs AMS* Now honey I need you to calm down. Come on over here and pray with me. "I wanna be reaaaady, I wanna be reaaaddy, Ready to put on my long white robe"

Nelson Branco is claiming that Michael Nader will be on as well. I am so tuning in now.
