Gayle King would probably get her own soap.

And it would still be better than the remaining six.

I'd settle for it being better than her talk show...

You guys are making me want to try and get on. I could send Oprah some crazy submission about how much I LOVE my soaps and can't live without them. I could gush and coo with the best of them. Then once I'm the show I could put some folks on blast. LOL! Anybody want to be a sleeper agent with me?

HAHA

I totally submitted.

I want to meet Oprah.

It would be great if a soap fan would say to Oprah, "I loathe Ryan Lavery." :D

That's exactly what I was thinking, that whatever O's gonna give us, it's something we've seen already. No offense to anyone, but it's going to be a plump frau, probably with red hair, who rattles off about "I was a little girl when Doug married Julie, and I was in high school when Bo married Hope, and I was raising my own kids when Shawn married Belle" or "This is the shirt I wore when I met Maurice in 1995. This is from 1998. This one is the hairband I wore when I met Maurice AND Steve in 2003. I don't wash them."

Be PROVOCATIVE, Oprah, jeez. Get a bunch of SON'ers on there. You'll get a new perspective (for TV, at least), and if you get the right mix, you're guaranteed a good catfight right there on the stage. Come on, O!

Unfortunately they might see this as being too academic or obscure for mainstream viewers--and Oprah couldn't even really interject with "Oh, I know, when I heard they were rehiring Megan McTavish at AMC after what she had just done to GL, I had a heart attack!"

I'd prefer Oprah start anew and do some sort of tri-weekly telenovela or soap that tapes out of one of her studios in Chicago. Not that it would be cheaper to tape a soap there, but it would give actors/directors there an opportunity to work.

Preferrably none of the same recycled daytime hacks and dear God please no Tyler Perry Presents: Madea in the Daytime.

I was JUST gonna say. we'd get a cheap ass existention of Tyler Perry's world...

I admit I'm tempted to enter but there's now wya I'd be picked. I could play up things like how much seeing the Billy Douglas and Kevin Sheffield gay storylines as a teen honestly helped me come to terms with being gay and coming out to my parents (rspectively) but that seems kinda desperate.

It's too bad. When she did her past soap eps way back--I have her 20th AMC anniversary ep, back when she was a massive fan, relatively speakign I thought it was pretty fair to the show--she had male fans, etc unlike the Donahue episodes I remember form the time which tended to be about how racy the soaps were and how hot the hunks were (I remember being 12 or so and shocked when several on his panel said soaps were like afternoon porn--of course back then soaps WERE racier, surprisingly, but not like that... lol)

(Of course VERY VERY soon after talk shows became so trashy that Donahue and his love of Chippendales dancers seemed tame, and any real argument about the soaps being too raunchy to be seen in daytime flew out the window)

It worries me even more that they didn't even spell Erica right. We're so going to see "JaSam is luv" shirts.

I submitted a few days ago. Easy trip for me. Don't even need to stay at "Omni Hotel, in the heart of Chicago's *magnificent mile*"

I could've sworn they changed the wording on the top of their page where they want soap fans to write in. I think they just want an audience full of soap fans so they can show that someone out there in TV land actually knows who these stars are.

I wonder if Oprah will even aknowledge her old, apparently fairly obsessive love for AMC nowadays... I suppose if Susan Lucci is on she will.

And no really good academic or obscure show would consider the topic of soaps too light and airy to get any real discussion out of. Ugh. Looks like we'd have to go public access.

That';s the kind of thing the Paley Center should do--and at least air on the web. They used to--the interviews with Agnes Nixon from the 80s on her website from there are fascinating, and they allow a lot of harsh criticism and allow her to deal with it (Of course Agnes being if anything too nice, it you don't always get as interesting answers as you'd wanna hear, but...)
