December 11, 201015 yr Member I always kind of thought that Frons might have had some input because Rylee has continued under every headwriter after McTavish (when the actors were on the show), and Ryan has remained a central figure. Rylee was, indeed, a Frons mandate. McTavish wanted Rendall.

HIS boss (Sweeney?) doesn't wonder about what role Frons has played in the epic fail that ABCD has become. Yes, Anne Sweeney. I don't know what that woman's doing. Here's a pic from The Hollywood Reporter:

December 12, 201015 yr Member what about former Y&R head writter Lynn Marie Latham as head writter? she was a bad fit at Y&R but is more of a ABC soap type writter Edited December 12, 201015 yr by Darlotto99
December 12, 201015 yr Member Yes, Anne Sweeney. I don't know what that woman's doing. I remember reading an article about her that mentioned how she's known for being a really hands-off manager but I'm astounded at how she seems to ignore the fact that Frons is the real problem.
December 12, 201015 yr Member I'm wondering if Frons has any other mandates other then Ryan/Greenlee? If not, that could explain why some of the other show is very good since the writers don't have any restrictions placed on them. Though I'm wondering if Griffin/Kendall is a mandate from Frons or if this is an idea of D/S? If this is D/S then I'd advise them to take a wait/see approach since I think the best storyline to place Griffin is in a quad with Cara/Jake/Amanda. Have Kendall stay single and grow as a character (though I'd ditch the Greenlee/Kendall friendship.. totally not realistic... these two bitches should be frenemies... not friends)
December 12, 201015 yr Member I actually think they're doing a fair job--it's no secret that the annoyances like Rylee are Frons dictates--so that won't change. I'd be all for Broderick being bumped up--but she doesn't want that, right? But I do hope she remains on the writing team, if this happens... I don't think their writing is terrible and I think the show is pretty good right now. The biggest problem I have with Kreijeski is that you can tell how much they love to showcase their new characters and bring new people onto the show. They IMO are doing that and wieving them in with other story's just so that they can make their little stamp and also, it makes things a bit easier for them in a way. It's really lazy to me. Not so much Cara/Griffin (loving them so far), but Asher/Caleb. Their story is being layed on a little to thick IMO and there are so many holes & rewrites. They're positioning everything to their liking and not really thinking. It bugs me when Caleb starts talking about his past with Adam and stuff like that, it's almost meaningless to me because the man isn't even on the show anymore. It's just so random and paint by number to me, if that makes any sense. It seems to me that they are just making all of this up as they go, thinking what they're writing is great when it's really not. They need to bring Adam & Sonia back and then maybe we'll have something good here. JMO. I wish they would stop creating all these new characters and start writing for the one's that we already have. And if they want to bring in a character, usher in someone we already know. I'm not really minding D&D's stuff right now. It's fine, IMO. As of now they aren't boring me the way that B&E did. And I don't feel like they've really taken a hacksaw to any of the characters yet, like I felt McTavish and Pratt did to some of the characters. (Even though they may end up doing that if they stick around long enough.) And I liked some of the stuff that McTavish/Pratt did, even though McTavish got too dark for my tastes towards the end of her stint. Plus there were times when McTavish/Pratt did integrate a large portion of the cast in their storylines. B&E are still my least favorite writers, just because the show was hardly ever balanced under them plus it was just really, really boring. McTavish/Pratt, especially McTavish, at least wrote some really interesting stuff. D/S haven't even been headwriters for a year so why even think about replacing them so soon? Granted the show isn't excitement galore but it has a quiet tone that is in stark contrast to GH and OLTL right now. I will say that I agree with people about Kate Hall because whenever I see her name in the credits, I know it'll be a great episode. I say give D/S at least 12 to 18 months to truly see the effect they are having on the show since it takes several months to tie up previous writer's stories and start their own. Maybe even have LB become a co-headwriter so that you have three visions (the old, new, and somewhat new). I totally agree that D&D are doing an okay job. There are days that are more exciting than others, but imo that's mostly due to the Ryan/Greenlee overkill. When the 2 of them and Kendall aren't around the show is usually interesting. I'd agree that there have been too many new characters when my old faves like Tad & Opal haven't had much to do lately. But I do think the Griffin/Cara/Jake/Amanda story has potential, unlike Caleb & Asher's story, which could have been good if what Broderick created hadn't been rewritten. That said, I also like the quiet tone that soaplovers mentioned. AMC's in-depth conversations make it stand out from the other 2 ABC soaps in a way that I think unfortunately may appeal more to older viewers who are used to conventional soap operas than the 18-49 crowd.

I couldn't agree more! I like AMC right now above the other soaps -- other than the Rylee overload -- mainly because of the more in-depth characterization, the slower pace, the non-stunts, the tone, etc. K & S are NOT that bad, other than Frons seems to want to put in his 2 cents where they don't belong. GH has the "Sonny/Brenda" show, and then the stunt-driven Balkan mess; OLTL is preoccupied with too many who's-the-father baby stories, turning previously sympathetic characters evil (Clint/Marty), and the shirtless Ford family; and even Y&R has got WAY too many things going on at once with a very bloated cast...So when I want to relax and enjoy a soap like I used to in the 80's, AMC is my choice....In many ways, it feels like I'm *coming home* when I sit down to watch. As for the demographics -- I agree that AMC is better-suited to a bit older crowd. 30-49 would be the age group, imo. But I know plenty of 20-year-olds who flock to it because of Jannie...and I have a feeling with the advent of the Griffin/Cara/Jake/Amanda quad, it will appeal more to the younger girls.
