If he saw something he did not like onscreen, when the show was over he would pick up the phone and call the control booth and eat John Conboy up over it.

Ah, yes.  Conboy and Bell.  A love story for the ages.

Another thing he learned from Irna! (at least he never addressed the actors by their character names - I hope)

Did he call collect, like Irna always did? ;)

Totally. I often see Y&R very unfavorably compared to, say, a Nixon soap in terms of humor, and I remember laughing out loud at Y&R a LOT growing up.

I remember being so shocked whenever the soap magazines would say that Y&R didn't have humor like the other shows. It was hilarious but it was more the subtleties in the writing than having some obvious "comic relief character" (or God forbid, animal) come out. I mean, GH literally ruined the episode with Stone's death with scenes of Sigmund the freaking duck.

One LOL moment was when Esther was on a health food kick and Brock snuck into the mansion a bucket of fried chicken. Does anyone else remember that?

I actually do have that clip saved! Here you go. In all seriousness, I love that Esther was trying to take care of Kay, and even later went to school to be a substance abuse counselor.

Yes! that scene use to be around...

A lot of the lines Katherine and Jill would spew out always make me laugh!

You never cease to amaze me, YRfan23! How do you not only keep track of all the air dates, but actually remember where to find specific lines in specific shows!?

It seems like there were more segments, but I could only find two.

That would be fantastic if we could get the other segments because 1980 was a blast up to 1982 period, lol the often called the transitional years

I was surprised when seeing the 1980 episodes how well rounded Mary William's was.  By the time I was old enough to watch the show 1990/1..she was written as a busybody.

I certainly enjoy her more in the 80s then 90s myself....and I think part of the problem with, her other children and Carl eventually disappearing, her obsession with Paul’s love life grew to be too much.

Mary was the most ATWT character Bill Bell ever conceived.

Yeah, it does seem like her conversation with Patty and Paul didn't seem to be a typical conversation you'd see on the Young and the Restless.

With that said, I did like in those two episodes from 1980 a good contrast between the Have's (Abbots/Katherine), the social climbers (Jill), and the Have nots (The Williams).  I know that the 80s was more about seeing the larger than life characters and wealthy characters.. but not focusing on realistic working class characters in the 80s kind of short-changed the soaps long term.

Pannoni's been on a role getting all of his videos over to the archive before google plus shuts down! Those gems shouldn't be kept away!

I can't get my computer to download the clips so I can make the screen cap. Would someone be willing/able to make a screen cap of Melody Thomas (pre-Scott)'s credit from the April 1982 episode for me, please? Thanks!!
