Nice interview with 94-year-old Ray Stewart and his groundbreaking role on Barney Miller. It's also noted that he was on Days. Any specifics on who he played @JAS0N47? Thank you

Jason47 has him listed as the following 3 roles:

RAY STEWART Salesman 1987
RAY STEWART Mr. Lyons 1989
RAY STEWART Saxton's Clerk 1990

So doesn't look like he played anyone of note.

Looks like Mr. Lyons had something to do since he was in 4 episodes. Don't have time to check now though, but if anyone wants to check the Digest synopses, etc... let us know the answer to who he was!

Some Days cast appeared on tonight’s Jeopardy episode. They introduced questions in the category “Historic Days of our Lives”, each question was tied into an event in Days history, nice little promotion for the show.

March 2001 (Continued)

Whew they’re really milking this whole fake rape storyline with Philip and Chloe. I didn’t know Days had the long a*ss nights that last weeks like Passions did. I guess this was the norm for some soaps in the early 2000’s? Philip and Chloe had sex, fought about Victor being alive, ended up in the hospital because Chloe accused him of raping her, then Brady breaks Chloe out of the hospital, now Chloe is back at the hospital to do the rape kit but doesn’t want to do it. Will this night ever end?

Sami and Greta thirsting after Austin is really kind of pathetic. I know he’s super hot but how much of a thirst bucket are you willing to act like just for him to toss you a few crumbs? I am sad for Lucas losing his son. I would prefer the joint custody arrangement for him and Sami but we all know Sami doesn’t want that. Lucas does need to get off the booze though if his son is important enough to him.

So you mean to tell me it’s just some big coincidence that Lexie and Abe end up at the exact same place as these Glen and Barb characters? And they just happen to be sitting across from each other at the bar. Yeah, okay.

Victor and Nicole are an example of one of those rare instances where I enjoy an age gap relationship. Mainly, because the age gap is acknowledged and made as being a part of the story. Nicole may be a money grubber they still in some odd way have this sweet connection which I’m enjoying. This plan they’re concocting to terrorize Kate with Victors “ghost” is hilarious.

I’ve heard it a million times, but for the first time I actually stopped to think about Macdonald Carey’s billing on Days of Our Lives. I always knew it was contractual—but was he ever a real draw for the audience?

Admittedly, I only knew him from Days. But digging a little deeper, it’s clear Carey brought serious Hollywood credentials to the role. A roll on Broadway led to him being signed to a studio contract with Paramount Pictures. Long before he became the voice of the hourglass, he was a bona fide star—dubbed the “King of the Bs” for his prolific run in B-movies. Then he transitioned to television with appearances on prestige anthology series like Playhouse 90 and Lock Up.  So, I assume generations older than I would've known his name when this played.

Meanwhile, wouldn't it have been funny if he messed up and said "Days of Our Lives, a new dramatic serial, starring me."?

Yes MacDonald Carey was a movie star, not up there with Clark Gable or Cary Grant but did appear in some prestigious movies eg Hitchcock's Shadow of A Doubt.

He was the first star of that calibre to do daytime, even though his movie star days were long over, so his name would at least draw some publicity.

He was a complex guy - from Variety, 1991

It is interesting to see how the history of addiction in the family of so many creators on Days have influenced the storylines.  You can say a lot about Days ability to adhere to style, but they've usually been respectful about the illness of addiction.

Ed Prentiss did the narration of the opening for the first 6 months or so. Mac took over at some point in 1966.

I was gonna say, that didn't sound like Mac on that clip.

Ed Prentiss' association with soaps went back to the 30's and his role as Ned Holden The Guiding Light. He had several small roles on Days.

I wonder why the change was made to go with MacDonald doing the voiceover?

I love SSH-she is soap royalty.

But why the Granny outfits from the Traci Abbott outlet mall?

The ugly print longline tops, chunky necklaces, slacks and comfy sandals all the time.'

I'd love to see her in something more stylish and contemporary.

@JAS0N47 I just stumbled on this index to SOD and SOW interviews with DAYS actors.

page 1 of 2: https://jason47.com/days/sodfeatures1.html

page 2 of 2: https://jason47.com/days/sodfeatures2.html

Just curious, when was the last time it was updated?

also, I noticed this:
When I'm reading page one, it says "for page 2, click here" ; but when I click on that, it goes to a "not found" page.
And when I'm reading page two, it says "for page 1, click here" ; but when I click on that, it goes to a "not found" page.
I had to google to find working URLs for each of the pages, which I linked above.

It should be updated as of the last published issues for both magazines. I'll try to remember and fix those links if possible. Thanks for letting me know.

I just assume it's the same deal with Deidre and her suit jackets - it's something she's comfortable in, likes and is at the age where she DGAF.
