Watching the end credits of the 1966 episode just caught my eye: Elizabeth Harrower had what I can only assume was a small role on the show as an actress two years before her daughter, and 13 before she'd take over as head writer.

Ahh, all these storylines Harrower set up that went absolutely nowhere.

The tax scene feels like all the business talk on present day Y&R.

The ridiculous part is that this was all to eventually reveal that Dougie was Doug's biological son, but instead the promo discusses...taxes? Like...if I was to choose between Karen Wolek on OLTL (I THINK OLTL was still DAYS' timeslot competitor at the time) and this...it's an easy choice.

Not that it matters but where I lived growing up & then on my own, AW & OLTL were the head-to-head competitors. The societies of Bay City & Il  llanview

Not that it matters but I always experienced AW & OLTL as opposite each other, with ATWT being the third point.

It does sound like the secret of Dougie's paternity went on for too long, and then when it finally came out, the payoff was a huge letdown

Also, practically, Scotty is a name, but Dougie is not.

Even the 90s rapper spelled it Doug E Fresh

Did anyone explain what happened to him when Robert came back a few years later? Seems silly to bring Robert back and not age up Dougie (and hopefully rename him) to the teen set at the same time. But, then again, the last thing DAYS seemed to want in the mid-80s was new Hortons, so...

He was in a boarding school in Switzerland. Robert put him there to keep him safe from the Dimeras.

The missed opportunities abound. They could have brought Douglas to town around 1991 with his longtime prep school buddy, Spencer Olson. Or in 1999 (as played by Victor Webster, allowing Nicholas "Nicky" Alamain a few more years in limbo before being reintroduced sometime in the mid-'00s).

Doug and Hope mentioned Dougie in a scene when Hope was pregnant with Shawn.  I went to school with a boy we always called Dougie, so maybe it was a 70s thing, lol?

I recall at one point SOD had a late breaking news item that mentioned Dougie would be returning to Salem. I guess this had to be the time that Bill Hayes returned around 86/87.
