Can someone jog my memory?

I think Alex bought a big house, (maybe from Kellem Chandler?), and got engaged to Renee.  When Renee was murdered she was at Alex's house, because the party was meant to be the announcement of their engagement.  Then, somehow the Dimera's forced Alex out of the house and that became the Dimera Mansion.

Is any of that correct? 

Did anyone live at the Kiriakis House before Victor moved in?

Also, where did Don and Liz live?  And didn't Todd Chandler and Savannah Wilder live with Alex at one point?

And with good reason.  PS was hated by so many on the show that they worked hard to ensure she was forgotten as quickly as possible.  But, since we're not supposed to talk ill of the dead....

I've no idea.  I presume she was your typical, behind-the-scenes diva, but I *know* that I've read over the years how several actors - both at DAYS, and at AW - disliked working with her.

Yes, but that wasn't really PS/Renee's fault that was just stupid writing, but you are not the first person who has said it was nearly identical.  Renee's just not that memorable overall.  She's not even one of Tony's most memorable love interests or Alex's or David's lol

I have no idea why PS was disliked, but I thought Renee was popular?  

 

 

Who hated her specifically?  Just curious.  Not try to talk ill of the dead or anything.  Just wondering who she didn't get along with.

I can't recall anyone specifically.  Again, it's only stuff I've heard or read over the years.  If I've heard or read wrong, I'll gladly be the first to apologize.

The Soaps of Yesterday Tumblr had comments from Thaao. Give me a second and I'll find them.

 

In August 1984, Thaao said "he had 'a very bad, actually terrible working situation'" with Philece, then gave a shrug of a follow-up comment. "But the girl's gone on to other things, so let's not peel sour grapes."

Thaao loved Leann, calling her "a dream to work with." And here's the comment that makes me wonder a few things about Philece and Thaao (and others?): "(Leann's) a total pro, and knows enough to keep her personal life separate from the work we do at the studio."

EPISODE # 1420...DON CRAIG'S DEBUT...
 
"Days" fans just heard Anna last week mention Don Craig's last scene (when he went to send some mail and was never heard from again). For the first time since its original airing, here's a look at Don Craig's debut episode, # 1420, which aired June 21, 1971:
 
PROLOGUE: INT. DON CRAIG'S OFFICE
 
(TO OFFICE DOOR, LETTERED "DONALD CRAIG, ATTORNEY-AT-LAW" BRING JULIE INTO PICTURE LOOKING CALM AND CONFIDENT, SHE ENTERS INTO OUTER OFFICE, IS GREETED BY CRAIG'S SECRETARY)
 
SECRETARY: Hello, Mrs. Banning.
JULIE: Good afternoon, Miss Meadows. I know I'm a little early for my appointment with Mr. Craig.
SECRETARY: Yes, he's busy at the moment. I'm afraid you'll have to wait a few minutes.
JULIE: That's quite all right. It'll give us a chance to talk. It's the last time I'll be seeing you, since we go to court the day after tomorrow.
SECRETARY: Yes, everything seems to be going along just fine.
JULIE: Two more days and I'll be a free woman again. You can't begin to know how I'm looking forward to it. And to a brand new life. (HOLD ON JULIE) (FADE TO BLACK)
 
ACT ONE: INT. HORTON LIVING ROOM (SCENE IN PROGRESS BETWEEN ALICE AND ADDIE)
 
ALICE: Almost a year. You could at least try to find some kind of special life for yourself. Try to have a little fun out of life. And there's one man I know from whom, without getting involved, you could have so much pleasure: Doug Williams.
ADDIE: Please, Mother, I appreciate what you're trying to do, but I'm not interested in dating. And I'm especially not interested in having anything to do with Mr. Williams. That one encounter at Sergio's was quite enough. 
(SOUND: TELEPHONE)
ALICE: Do you want to get that, dear?
(ADDIE GETS IT. TWO WAY CALL, JULIE CALLING FROM SECRETARY'S PHONE) 
ADDIE: Hello.
JULIE (happy, upbeat, playing the game): Hello, Mother. How are you?
ADDIE (guarded, cautious): I'm...fine, Julie.
JULIE: I only have a moment. I wondered if you're going to be there in an hour or so. I thought I'd stop by, spend a little time with you.
ADDIE (instinctively suspicious): Why, yes I'll be here.
JULIE: Good. See you then, Mother. Bye.
(AS JULIE HANGS UP, THE WHEELS TURNING, WE SEE CRAIG IN BACKGROUND)
DON: Mrs. Banning? You can come in now.
(AND AS JULIE TURNS TO ENTER, CUT BACK TO ADDIE, PUZZLED)

ADDIE: Knowing my daughter ,Mother, there has to be a reason. (FADE TO BLACK)
 
ACT TWO: FADE IN: INT. DON CRAIG'S OFFICE (THIS SET CAN BE A SLIGHT REMAKE OF MICKEY'S OFFICE LAYOUT). (SCENE IN PROGRESS)

DON: Well, you seem happy enough today, Mrs. Banning.
JULIE: But then, aren't all women on the eve of their divorce?
DON: No, not at all. Depending on the individual circumstances. Sometimes with a day or two to go, one side or the other backs away from the idea.
JULIE: No way, Mr. Craig.
DON: And your husband?
JULIE: He's as anxious as I am.
DON: Then that closes the door to any possible reconciliation.
JULIE: You mean you were about to open that door?
DON: If I felt there was any hope, yes. It's a thing with me. I find it much more satisfying to save marriages than end them. And as I said, it does happen occassionally. A last minute change of heart.
JULIE: How lovely. I mean that. But really it would be a waste of your time with Scott and me.
DON (not critically): Yes, I'd more or less come to that conclusion.
JULIE: Tell me, what time are we due in court the day after next?
DON: Your case should be heard around ten, maybe a little after. And since it's uncontested, it shouldn't take more than a half hour.
JULIE: In other words, by eleven or so...
DON: It should all be over, except for telling your family of course. Or have you already done that?
JULIE: No, Mr. Craig. And I know it'll come as quite a shock to everyone. But I didn't, and don't, want all sorts of people surrounding me with advice. That's the last thing in the world I want or need right now: family interference. And frankly I think it would be better if more people handled it this way. Kept it a very private matter until it was over. It saves all sorts of emotionalims, strain and stress for everyone.
DON: Except that there are those situations when a family functions to bring about a reconciliation.
JULIE: For a divorce attorney, you certainly use that word a lot: reconciliation. It's not good business, is it?
DON: As I said, it's a thing with me. (BEAT) Tell me, Mrs. Banning, is there anything else you think I should know before we go to court?
JULIE: Anything else? No. I'm sure you know all you have to.
DON (long, steady look at her, then, beat): What about your giving custody of your son to Mr. Banning. Don't you think we should discuss that, too? Or didn't you want me to know about it? (Jason47 Note: Julie's son mentioned in this script is David Banning, Eli's father).
(FADE TO BLACK)

ACT THREE: FADE IN: INT. DON CRAIG'S OFFICE (TAKE IT UP IMMEDIATELY)

JULIE: Whatever arrangements I've made concerning my son is a personal matter between Scott and me, Mr. Craig. (BEAT) And I'm a little upset that Scott discussed this with his attorney. I assume that's where you heard about it.
DON: Then it is true, you did enter into such an arrangement.
JULIE: I'm sure that's difficult for you to understand.
DON: Let's say it's rather unusual.
JULIE: Whar else does a mother do, Mr. Craig, when her son wants desperately to live with his father, when he's convinced his mother doesn't love him, has never loved him? A boy who caused utter pandemonium at school because he ran to his father's office rather than take the school bus home to his mother. I could go on and on.
DON: Is this to be an informal arrangement between you two?
JULIE: I definitely don't want it mentioned in court. As I said, this is something between Scott and me. There's nothing illegal about that, is there? (KNOWING THERE ISN'T)
DON: No. Not at all. (BEAT) Then there's nothing permanent about the arrangement. 
JULIE: It could be. But needn't be. Depending upon my son.
DON: Does your husband understand this.
JULIE: Yes, I assume he does. Although we've never put it in quite those words.
DON: Do you want me to cover it with his attorney?
JULIE: No, Mr. Craig. I'd rather the attorney's didn't get into this.
DON: But you do intend to let Mr. Banning have the boy the day after tomorrow.
JULIE (very subtle hedging): Those are my plans, yes. Unless anything unforeseen should develop, which I have no reason to expect.
DON (beat, then): A word of advice?
JULIE (but not really wanting it): By all means.
DON: Don't either of you ever be guilty of using the child as a pawn. It does happen, Mrs. Banning. Sometimes the emotions are such that you're unaware of its happening. But it's a quick way of bringing the court into it. For the protection and welfare of the child.
JULIE: That's the last thing I want to have happen, Mr. Craig. I've been through that once. Never again.
DON (beat, then referring to her folder): There's just one other matter I want to go over with you. The matter of alimony.
JULIE: I told you I didn't want any.
DON: I'm sure I could get it for you.
JULIE: No, I don't believe in it. I do have certain principles, Mr. Craig.
DON: You have many.
JULIE: I wasn't sure what your opinion might be.
DON (beat): Something very basic. How will you live?
JULIE: I have a small trust my father set up for me when I was a child. And when I'm thirty five I'll come into a rather sizeable inheritance.
DON: A small trust between now and thirty five.
JULIE: Well, I hope to borrow some money from my mother against my share of the inheritance. I'm going to see her after I leave here.
DON: That's the first time I've heard you refer to your mother. I didn't realize she lived in Salem.
JULIE: She didn't until recently. Let's just say my mother and I haven't been very close.
DON: But you're confident she'll lend you the money.
JULIE: No, I'm going to have to court her a little first. I don't plan to ask her until I feel our relationship is on much firmer ground. Which will take a little doing.
DON: But definitely no alimony.
JULIE: Definitely.
DON: And if your mother turns you down? It's going to be quite a while before you're thirty five.
JULIE: Between now and then there's always the chance that some man will take pity and ask me to marry him. But somehow I'll manage to survive. I always have, Mr. Craig. And I always will...
DON (beat as he looks at her): No, that shouldn't be too much of a problem for you after all, should it.
(FADE TO BLACK)

ACT FOUR: INT. HORTON LIVING ROOM (SCENE IN PROGRESS BETWEEN ADDIE AND JULIE)

JULIE: Mother, I have a though. It's a lovely warm day. Why don't we collect Grandma, maybe take a walk, go and have a soda somewhere. My treat.
ADDIE (beat as she looks at Julie for a moment, unable to figure her out and yet unable, too, to find any hidden motivation): It's been, how many years, since we've had a soda together?
JULIE: Too many.
ADDIE (beat): All right. I'll go upstairs and ask your grandmother.
(BUT BEFORE ADDIE STARTS TO LEAVE, SOUND: PHONE RINGS.)
JULIE: I'll go ask Grandma.
(ADDIE PICKS UP PHONE. A ONE WAY CALL FOR NOW).
ADDIE: Hello...Why, yes, she is. (aside) Julie, it's for you.
(JULIE IS SURPRISED, YET WILL TRY TO MASK IT)
JULIE: For me?
(JULIE COMES OVER, TAKES THE PHONE, AS ADDIE WALKS AWAY)
JULIE: Hello?
(NOW INTERCUT DON FROM HIS OFFICE)
DON: Mrs. Banning, this is Don Craig. Can you talk?
JULIE: Why, yes.
DON: You'd mentioned where you were going and, well, it was something you said to my secretary that prompts my call.
JULIE: I really don't know what that could be.
DON: Your having referred to the divorce becoming final the day after tomorrow. It's a small point but important, one I did want to clarify.
JULIE: What is? What point do you mean?
DON: When you're in court this week, what happens is that the Judge will enter an interlocutory decree. Bur there's a three month waiting period before the divorce is final.
(TAKE JULIE TOO UTTERLY STUNNED TO SPEAK. DOUBLE BEAT, THEN)
JULIE (deeply shaken but mustering the strength to speak): Whatever would have given you that idea, Mr. Craig?
DON: Well, I just wanted to be doubly sure you understood. I'll see you the day after tomorrow then. Goodbye, Mrs. Banning.
(TAKE JULIE AS SHE SLOWLY HANGS UP, TOTALLY OVERWHELMED. THEN BRING ALICE DOWN THE STAIRS AND INTO THE LIVING ROOM)
ALICE: Julie, what a lovely thought. I haven't had a soda in I can't remember how long. Your mother will be right down, dear.
(JULIE OF COURSE HAS TO TURN, MUST FORCE A SMILE TO COVER THE MOMENT, AND HOLD ON HER DUPLICITY, HOWEVER LABORED...FADE TO BLACK)

    • I decided this primetime soap deserved it's own thread as the Primetime soaps thread is very cluttered and why shouldn't NBC's Lorimar soap mot have a chance to shine? In doing a deeper dive into the second season ratings I was surprised to see that FR actually had an uptick in the ratings when NBC moved it to 9pm Tuesdays beginning March 82. I'd always assumed this move was a desperate one as NBC were running short of programming and had given up on the show,deciding to let the final episodes play out and be hammered by 3's Company  and CBS Movie. But the numbers paint a different story. In it's 10pm slot up against Hart to Hart, which regularly finished in the Top 20, FL premiered in 53rd place and placed in the 40's and 50's as the season continued. But come January 82 the numbers surged a little now moving into the 40's hitting #43 in Feb. Hart to Hart was #11 Then in March Bret Maverick was moved to 8pm with FR @9. First week 16th March FR #47 15.1/24 3's Company #3 Too Close for Comfort #5 CBS Movie #60 Not great but #2 in it's timeslot March 23 FR #44 15.6/25 3's Company #4 Too Close for Comfort #5 CBS Movie #33 So even with a stronger movie on CBS FR's numbers went up. March 30 FR #31 16.6/26 3's Company #9 Too Close for Comfort #5 CBS Movie #56 Best rating/position yet Tues April 6 pre empted Tues April 14 FR #36 16.0/26 3's Company #5 Too Close for Comfort #11 CBS Movie #59 Maintaining previous week's numbers Tues April 21 FR #33 15.6/24 3's Company #3 Too Close for Comfort #5 CBS Movie #60 Numbers down a little (reflecting general spring downturn) but best ranking of the season so far Tues April 28 FR #35 15.1/23 3's Company #9 Too Close for Comfort #6 CBS Movie #42 Tues May 4 FR #27 15.2/24 3's Company #5 Too Close for Comfort #4 CBS Movie #41 Season finale and highest position of the season. Looking at those numbers I wonder why NBC cancelled the show? They had very few hits and here was a show that was holding it's own and moving up in the rankings in a tougher timeslot. And being a serial, the storylines could continue to build the following season. And I'm sure the desirable W18-49 demo was good. Some might argue that CBS were shower weaker movies, but even so, soap viewers are pretty loyal. I guess Grant Tinker arrived at NBC and wanted a classier look but there was room for FR on the schedule. I mean, the following season Knight Rider,Powers of Matthew Star and the A Team arrived so there was still room for more populist fare. Flamingo could have stayed at 9pm-the replacement Gavilan bombed (surely FR would have done better} or moved back to 10pm. The following Jan NBC had a hit with A Team Tues 8pm. Had Flamingo followed it, it might have really taken off. As it was they tried Bare Essence, which flopped. Oh well,it was not to be...    
    • Always, in every way, Cass/Wally/Felicia foundational to my viewing. And, I think if we look at the aftermath of the disastrous 90 minute show that we find too many pockets of some kind of lost time at the show plus way too much of change-ups in exec & writing leadership and of course we also reach the first time it becomes notable that NBC wants to get rid of the show so they can put a new soap they own in the timeslot.
    • If the MAGAts were easy prey enough to get manipulated into voting for the tangerine-tinted terror, they'll fall for anything.

    • Hope you will enjoy the 1976 storyline from the Daytime serial Newsletter. The show had just expanded to an hour so new characters and stories were required. The Soderbergs had been writing since late 73 and the show was still #1. Looking foward to comments and discusssion Pt.1  For over two decades As the World Turns has depicted the events in the lives of two Oakdale families: the wealthy and influential Lowells and the less affluent but equally respected Hughes family. Judge Lowell’s granddaughter Ellen is married now to Dr. David Stewart, whose adopted son, Dan, is actually her own illegitimate child. Dan was once married to Dr. Susan Stewart, by whom he has a daughter, Emily. Dan then married Liz, the ex-wife of his late brother Paul. Liz was the mother of Dan’s daughter Betsy, who believes to this day that Paul was her father. Liz died tragically the day after their wedding. Ellen and David have two daughters, Carolann (Annie) and Dawn (Dee), now of college age. Dan has recently fallen in love with Kim Dixon, who was about to divorce Dr. John Dixon until injuries suffered in a tornado caused amnesia and left her with no memory of her love for Dan. John is using this respite to solicitously convince Kim of his love for her. Nancy and Chris Hughes had three children: Bob, a doctor, Donald, an attorney, and Penny, who, after tragically losing two husbands due to automobile accidents, is now living in Europe, where she is married to a racing-car driver. Bob was married while very young to Lisa Miller, then a scheming and selfish young woman, whose machinations destroyed their marriage. She is the mother of Bob’s son, Tom, who is divorced from Carol, who is now married to Jay Stallings. Tom is currently married to Natalie Bannon. Bob later married model Sandy Wilson, a marriage which ended in divorce, and Sandy is now married to Norman Garrison, who is her partner in a beauty products concern. Norman blames Bob for Sandy’s  recent disillusionment with their marriage, and, ironically, Norman suffered a heart attack during his verbal assault on Bob at a Hughes family party; and while Bob rode with him in the ambulance to the hospital, Bob’s beloved wife, Jennifer, Kim’s sister, died in a car crash while driving home alone. Lisa, more mature and considerate of others now, is married to attorney Grant Colman, but her life has been complicated by the recent arrival in town of Grant’s ex-wife, Joyce, and the incredible news that she and Grant had a child after their separation, a child Joyce gave out for adoption but now wants to reclaim. Now the story continues... The picture has now come clear for attorney Grant Coiman. He has learned that his ex-wife Joyce neglected to tell him she had a child shortly after their divorce and had given the boy to Mary and Brian Ellison for adoption. Grant, after seeing the adoption papers and considering the boy’s interests, tells Mary he feels the child should remain with them; they are providing a fine, stable home for him. Grant’s wife, Lisa, is pleased with his decision, feeling he has thus closed the door to the past and they can now go on with their own lives. But Joyce has learned that attorney Dick Martin is now back in private practice, and she tells him she was confused when she gave Teddy up years ago and wants him to represent her in a custody action to get her son back. Dick tells Joyce she has a very weak case but he’ll do what he can. He goes out to Laramie to see the  Ellisons, upsetting them very much. Grant, meanwhile, has confided in Chris Hughes, his law partner, that while his name was on the consent form for the Ellisons’ adoption, he didn’t sign the papers; he had, in fact, never known that he had a son. But he’s afraid to open a new can of worms by signing a consent form now, as that would reveal that the adoption papers are not legally correct. Grant confides the situation to Lisa, explaining that if he wanted to,  he could probably get custody of Teddy himself, but that’s not what he feels would be best for the child. Mary Ellison finally breaks under the strain of Dick’s visit and tells Brian that Dr. Paulk, the doctor who arranged the adoption, told her he didn’t know where to find the baby’s father and so he signed the consent form himself. She painfully explains she kept this secret knowing that Brian wouldn’t go through with the adoption if he learned the papers weren’t legally sound. Brian quickly calls their family lawyer, Jerry Butler, who immediately phones Grant to be sure he backs the Ellisons’ claim. Dick realizes from Joyce’s story that Grant couldn’t have signed the papers and tells him he knows. The only person who has a right to file for Teddy’s custody now is Grant; he’s the only injured party. And the moment he files, Dick can sue for invalidation of the Ellisons’ adoption. Grant finally files, to settle the custody question once and for all, but technically he's filing for custody himself. Tom Hughes and Natalie Porter are married in a small, lovely ceremony at the home of his grandparents, Nancy and Chris Hughes. They honeymoon in the Southwest and return full of expectations of happiness. Natalie is disquieted, however, when flowers arrive which are not from her new husband. She covers by pretending to check with the florist and tells Tom it was a wrong delivery and they have told her she might as well keep them. But she knows who sent them. Natalie is upset when, shortly after, Luke Porter arrives in town and seeks her out. But Luke insists he is there only to assure her this is a final farewell and he has now decided to concentrate on. making his own marriage work. Sandy Garrison, Bob’s ex-wife, is working at the  bookstore to fill in for Natalie. Her estranged husband, Norman, recovering from a heart attack he suffered during a drunken confrontation with Bob at the Colonnade Room, is still telling anyone who will listen that Bob and Sandy are having an affair, but ironically will let only Bob care for him at the hospital. His recovery is hampered by his easily aroused temper. Norman anxiously tries to persuade Dr. John Dixon to convince Bob to swear he slipped at the restaurant, thus making them liable for a costly lawsuit, but John won’t do this. Chris discovers a large amount of money missing when checking the books on the Garrisons’ business, but doesn’t want to upset Sandy with this. More to come...
