As The World Turns Discussion Thread

That episode of The Locher Room was really entertaining. Danny Pintauro steered much of the discussion especially in the earlier moments and it set the tone for the rest of the episode. Even though I knew it was coming, it really put a broad smile on my face when Colleen Zenk popped in. I appreciate that someone found that clip of Danny and Colleen, the amazement and pure joy on their faces, Danny in particular, as they watched the scene…you can’t bottle it, it was so poignant. I really hope that he can get good quality acting jobs going forward. The way he was talking, it seems like he would be interested in a gig on The Bay to start with.

It’s also cool that Colleen and Hugo still keep in touch. When ATWT was going off the air and they had all these characters return, I remember I wanted Gunnar to make an appearance, even if in a dream or fantasy or to find out what really happened once that giant air balloon finally landed—just to add even a little conflict to Barbara and Henry’s betrothal. But that’s a totally different tangent.

Going on from what @DramatistDreamer was saying in the AW thread about cast uploading clips/episodes, I was reminded again that somebody about a decade ago uploaded the closing credits of an episode (was it from 1976?) they found in a relative's house as they were a cast member or something along those lines. Sadly, I don't think they ever put up the rest of the episode.

Are you talking about the one that has the very last few seconds of a Kim/Jennifer scene, featuring Kim’s big hair? I think it was originally labeled 1974 then showed up again as 1975. I want to say that the Bob/John promo came from the same source, but I could be wrong.

I would have never expected that handful of episodes from Patricia Bruder, so I know there has to be even more out there. Eileen *has* to have some of Lisa’s late 60s glory days.

Similarly, that 1958 episode surfacing is interesting to me because a small clip from the courtroom scene (Chris having to publicly discuss his daughter Penny’s moral character in his line of questioning) was in the old 50 Years of Soaps special. In general, I strongly believe that if it something was clipped in a special or used in a flashback, it probably exists in full.

Someone uploaded this promo that used to be up a while ago and I remember us having some laughs over - rare to see a big promo (with a jingle, no less) devoted to such a temporary, forgettable character...the truly iconic Gail. I suppose this is an indication that Marland had more plans for Sean than what ended up happening. I did like Burke in his more comedic role on OLTL but they made a mistake in overemphasizing his volatile, harsh demeanor as Sean, especially as on a show which at that time had so many placid people, it made you think he was about to start ripping heads off.

I don't think so, although I may be wrong. This was just closing credits, IIRC. But you may be right as it's been a while.

Wow, John Litvack.  The man who, as head of scheduling and programming at the (now-defunct) WB Network, infamously once called Michelle Williams of "Dawson's Creek" a "chipmunk-cheeked c*nt."

I don't even remember this storyline. I did remember Burke, and remember thinking he was sexy...non soap operas...a big guy, who wasn't a cut muscle "hunk" and thought his character was refreshing in that he wasn't so placid and polite as the rest of Oakdale at this time, but he got lost in Marland's endless "Ambitious guy is bad, but reformed by love" he started with Ross Marler and...would...not...drop. Even if that annoying Courtney was his sister...(who was trying to be a "model" though she looked like a normal person..another storyline Marland loved to recycle.)  But Gail??? She looked like Marland was setting her up to be killed. What happened to her?

According to Jeffrey Stepakoff, who worked on "Dawson" from seasons 3-5, Litvack blurted that out during a story pitch meeting.

Actually, Litvack said, "I don't care about that..." and you know the rest.

I agree that Burke was unconventionally attractive. He might have been better off in another era (maybe the early '80s or mid or late '90s), but the writing was really the issue.

I'm reminded of how Duke was initially abrasive too, but you could relate a little more, especially as he was dealing with town saints like Lily.

Everyone in Oakdale during the mid to late Marland period, acted like they were on Xanax..perhaps that came with Marland's love for "therapy." Even live wires like Lisa were more downbeat..the only one to escape with Lucinda. It made me kind of love people like Lillith, who, while being calmly nuts..maybe would plant a bomb at the "Earl Mitchell Children's Center of Boredom" and get everyone to wake up!

I think that was due to the change in EP's, from Robert Calhoun to Laurence Caso.  I don't remember the Calhoun period being so sedate, lol.

I wish I COULD forget it, lol!
