She still looks great.  She could be on one of the soaps on air today.  If Y&R weren't so ageist, she probably could've made a good Diane Jenkins (no offense to MW but we all know she was miscast in that role).

Actually both Kate McNeil and Kim Ulrich look great.

If it were up to me, I would've waited a few months after Lindsey Frost left the role and just recasted Ulrich as Betsey Stewart.   I know Runyeon left at least a year before Frost but ironically Ulrich had a lot more chemistry with Runyeon than Frost did. I'm not sure whether it was the decision of the actresses or they were written out but I understand that McNeil left in 1984?

That's one of the things that irritated me about those compilations--why wouldn't you have the before and after episodes?  It needn't have the entire story arc but the episode showing how Barbara ends up in the bullring and then the episode that follows Gunnar saving Barbara from the bullring.  I mean, were Barbara and Gunnar able to wrest little Jonathan Bower from James' clutches?  I want to know how it happens?

The other thing that still annoys me is, why wouldn't they include those special episodes like the masquerade balls and formal events like the hospital fundraising formals?  Emily's tango with Brock should be in any compilation and so should Lisa's Cleopatra trick on Lucinda.

Also, if you're going to have Bob and Kim's bachelor party, wedding and reception, Kim's surprise labor and birth of Christopher Hughes should've been included!  That was a highly popular set of episodes.

Lisa wasn't just daffy at this time, she acts like she is on something with her forgetfulness and her jittery hyperactivity, while Betsy acts stoned. (does Betsy..go to school at all, have a job, just sits around and sighs all day.)

It was actually Fulton's decision to play Lisa this way...(this was a few episodes before she left the show..) She said they weren't writing for her...(which they were) so she had to go dead down inside, to find something to play..."so I came up with a ditz..." which Lisa never was. She is obviously trying to get attention in those scenes and her red hair!!!

Loring is cuter and better then I remember her. I love when she tells that guy..."I trust you!"   Uh, cause he is FLAMING!"  (Note: I forgot all about Ernie, who now is a pretty successful interior designer in NY...so yea, Cricket..you are safe with Ernie.) The dark haired girl was Bilan who was cute...but what was the point...the Dobs were wasting time and insistent on bringing in young people, (Cricket, Ernie, Bilan) who don't do anything.

I forgot Colin's Margo was so harsh and annoying and I can't believe Deas is not chewing the scenery.  Agreed on loving Ariel and her eye roll at the dullards. She was fun and she should have been kept on just to sit in Fashions and roll her eyes at everyone.

Oops, I meant Bilan.  She and Cricket looked so much alike they were almost interchangeable here.

As for Lisa's acting choices...where was the director in all this mess?  ATWT at that time must have approved of EF's acting choices then because otherwise, a director would've intervened in that.

Meg Ryan likely felt the same way as you.

Yeah, a big problem with ATWT at this time (which I tend to blame then-EP Mary-Ellis Bunim for) is that the canvas is littered with characters and actors who are certainly young and telegenic, but who lack purpose or strong ties to the Oakdale community.  Unless someone was part of James's storyline or the Betsy/Steve/Craig triangle, they might as well have been an background extra or under-five.

Watching that particular episode from '83, I'm amazed by how little of the show remained by the time Marland returned as HW just two years later.

I always will think of Loring as Wednesday Addams from the 1960s The Addams Family...  She was on for 3 to 4 years on ATWT.. and I always thought it weird that Cricket never came back even for visits.  You'd think Marland would have had the character come back for visits when her mom got married, her step dad passed away, etc.

Well, I know there were people complaining the there were too many Montgomerys, maybe it was his directive to rid the show of a few (* kanye shrug*).

Has Lisa Loring spoken of her time on ATWT?  She's lived quite an eventful life since she left the show, including being married to an adult film actor, as well as the fallout from that, and other divorces.  Also, her recovery from a drug addiction.  Is it possible that the show wanted her to make an appearance but she had too much going on in her life?

This gave me so many flash backs, loved Ariel, Karen, and Bilan, all part of the mother/daughter angle at ghe time   Love Lyla, hate Maggie.  Is that Robertons Brian ghat Ariel is eyeing?

I think CBS didn't want to be associated with Loring the more notorious her life got. And honestly, Cricket wasn't a vital piece of ATWT history. Marland also liked using the idea of "out of town relatives" to cover vacations or maternity leaves.

My goodness. Seeing that, yes. As much as he spoke for taking things slowly and not changing anything for six months, he clearly wanted nothing to do with that vision of ATWT. I can see why, too, but I don't completely hate that 1983 episode either. Those Barbara/bull scenes are great. And Anthony Herrera is so sexy it should be illegal.

I thought that was a distinct possibility too.

CBS was one of the most conservative networks (although that dynamic wouldn't truly manifest itself in the programming until the mid-late 90s).  Even when CBS had standards that could be considered more permissive, this was still daytime television and the standards would always be more constrained than primetime television.

    • Yes, they did.  I still have them.  I think there were three.  AMC and GH as well.
    • Ah okay, thats what I thought. I was hoping I missed the announcement somewhere. Thanks for the clarification.
    • A new day in Salem… and a new day for Days.  I like the way everybody found out and absorbed the news about John’s death, and how they all eventually found their way to Marlena’s to offer their condolences. I’m not particularly sure why they waited until the next day to tell everybody but I don’t really mind it.  We finally got Roman’s perspective! His scenes with Kayla were one of the best parts of today. I’m glad that Roman is thankful for everything that John did for his kids. I agree with posters who said that he should’ve had a scene like this with John, but I’m happy we got this at least.  Julie was used very well today too. She’s definitely the best person for Marlena to have scenes with at the moment. Hopefully, Julie continues to be there for her. And yes, I totally agree with Marlena and Belle sending EJ away when he came to the apartment. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to his and Belle’s relationship in the aftermath of all this. And, while I enjoyed most of Brady and Kristen’s scenes, I still think the ship has sailed for them. Hopefully, the aftermath of John’s death causes Brady to finally end this thing with her once and for all.  And, I see a lot of people were wearing some kind of shade of purple today.

    • Wow, I love that current and former actors are participating in this. I barely recognize Staci Greason! She looks fine, just very different. But I will be happy to hear anecdotes from her. I shipped RoJohn and Isabella hard back in the day, and I sobbed buckets in my dorm room at college when Izzy B passed. Honestly, I'm interested in everyone's stories. Drake seemed like he was well loved among the cast.
    • When she first appeared, I was sure she was setting Tyrell up for a prank. She was too much of a manic pixie dream girl- I wasn't surprised Tyrell also became suspicious. Now I'm not so sure. If Jessica genuinely likes Tyrell, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have started her out as a bully, then we see her gradually catch feelings for Tyrell.  The McBrides are definitely the "C" family of BTG. They always get last priority. There have been a few times where the Doug/Vanessa/Joey characters reference off screen conversations which seem too important to not show us. Like when Doug thanked Joey for giving him extra time to pay off the loan. When did that happen? Or when we abruptly moved from Vanessa/Joey at Uptown to Vanessa/Doug in the hotel room. The McBrides don't even have their own set - even though Vanessa is a realtor. It's a shame because I am a fan of the characters and actors.

I am also adjusting to KR as Ted but I feel that AM and MJ had way more chemistry as father and daughter than AM and KR. We saw Eva dream of having a real relationship with MJ's version of Ted for months so it's a bit of a bummer not to have that payoff with the original actor except for those scenes in MJ's last episode.  Something I noticed about Eva today is how she takes genuine delight in being a schemer. As badly as she wants to be a Richardson, she still has so much of her mom in her. It was jarring seeing her earnestly promise to steer clear of Leslie in her scene with Ted, then immediately switch attitudes when her mom showed up.  I'm very surprised with how quickly the accident story has been moving along. I was sure that it would be months if not years before people figured out it was Leslie on the motorcycle, not to mention responsible for the potassium overdose. I'm looking forward to seeing how MVJ and Guza avoid writing Leslie into a corner.  Finally, I have been loving the Articulettes story. Bonita Brisker was just the right amount of OTT - remember Sharon is supposed to be even more angry than Tracy is. If Sharon didn't come in swinging, people would say she fell flat. The way Sharon and Tracy describe the breakup is so Supremes-meet-Original Recipe Destiny's Child. I get the sense that MVJ is re-writing the Return to Love Tour as a roman a clef, and I love it. I'm looking forward to finding out what the secret they share is. If Dante Green is as shady as Berry Gordy was, it's something dark. If/when they go through with the reunion, I expect Dante to show up and claim to own the Articulettes trademark in a Lou Pearlman-esque twist.
    • Other than hanging out with Liz, all of Lucky's stories have been stalled out or dropped; the relationship with his son; his wanderlust. He hasn't been involved in any of the action/adventure or con artist stuff. I don't think he's even had a scene with Sidwell since the latter came to town. He's a real after thought. I doubt he's long for the show.
