SOD gave Duncan and Shannon the worst exits of 1995, complaining that they didn't even leave together.

At the time I was sad to see them go, but now I can understand it. Still, it was shoddily done.

Looking back I can understand most of the firings, aside from Evan and Andy, but I thought a lot of the exits were poor.

Yeah, honestly, I've forgotten how it ended. I just think Marland was rolling in his grave, after essentially all his work pissed on.

As much as I hated seeing Andy go, what they food to Greg Watkins was cold. (Watkins was fired shortly after being in a serious boating accident that nearly cost him his life, and took months of recovery, for those of you who don't know.  I don't recall the specifics,  other  than somehow he was sliced by a propeller on a boating trip, and nearly cost him his life and the ability to walk)

I've always been surprised Scott D wasn't a part of the end. My guess is, he just didn't want to be. I'm not even sure he has another acting appearance after ATWT, anywhere.

Well we must remember that Paul was practically a different character when Howarth took over the role. Scott Holroyd was the closest we'd get to Andy Kavovit's Paul. But I too find it odd Paul wouldn't even drop a line about Andy occasionally when their friendship was pivotal to both characters.

I skimmed over some 95/96 episodes tonight and while I enjoyed them their original run, knowing what I know now, this show was a mess. The Kasnoff and Snyder clans ate the show up. The Hughes and Lisa got scraps most of the time.

You could really tell come about '95 that P&G didn't give a sh-t about any of their last shows. AW, GL, and ATWT were starting to flounder and stray from their themes about that time and it showed.

Wow. I didn't know that Greg Watkins was in a serious boating accident before they let him go. I always found it odd how they cast him aside and later did the same with Connor.

I think P&G still cared to a point, but they handled it in the wrong way. It was around the early '00s that I think they truly gave up.

I think that ATWT was a "better" show in its last 15 years than GL, which could be a horrendous mess and deeply offended me many times over, but I think GL still had some scraps of its identity intact. Outside of the vets, ATWT didn't. They at times seemed incredibly, incredibly ashamed of their past, which demoralized me as a viewer and made the show feel very cold for many years. GL was that difficult but lively relative who sometimes gets better but can't quite do it. ATWT was that relative who sends you a card every so often and then you hear that they're dead and you feel sad but you struggle to remember the connection you once had.

And for me, its precisely the opposite. GL died with the clone story, and limped around like a zombie for a decade.

And its an understatement to say Howarth was a different character. He was nearly a different species. I can appreciate Howarth more now than at the time, but that character was not Paul. Paul's tormented, unknown, and recently escaped from a mental ward twin....maybe.

Seeing as ATWT was on an upswing in the early 00s, that should've encouraged them to fight a bit more.

I do agree with the point that you made that ATWT that the show seemed to be ashamed of their past, but I think that was more of a Goutman thing. All the time, I wish CBS/P&G would've stepped in and booted his behind after 2005. They should've did a massive clean up job and cleaned house again after Sheffer left.

But you really think GL had scraps of his identity towards the end b/c I didn't. While I loved the show till it's bitter end, I felt it departed from its roots too. The Bauers not being front and center played a pivotal role in that. I always felt they wanted to move the show away from the Bauers much like ATWT wanted to do so with the Hughes. It was like both shows were embarrassed of the 2 families that fans loved and adored for 50+ years.

I always felt Howarth was playing Todd-lite instead of Paul. Only time I enjoyed his Paul was when he was with Rosanna. Other than that, I didn't care for the character. Especially, during the PEG era. Pseudo-Paul and pseudo-Meg were the worst.

What you NOT gonna do to me!
    • Bravo to every single person responsible for today's episode. From the writer on down to Kraft services. Yall I'm getting emotional but I wish my granny was here to have seen this soap since she was the one to introduce me to this medium.

    • Everything is fraught with confusion. Why is Leslie pleading with the Duprees to accept Eva? She's not biological family so what is this? She's the product of an affair with their in-law so Leslie wants them to accept her? I'm getting GOOD TIMES vibes of Leslie and Eva minus the physical abuse.
    • Big fan of today's writing. In particular, I like EJ complexity, crying over Johnny and conspiring at the same is tough to pull off in the same episode, but it goes very far in explaining EJ's motives. I don't hate the idea of Cat and EJ, and I especially appreciate everyone trying to warn her, but she is sticking to the plan. Boy oh boy, when Brandon Beemer wears a shirt that matches his eyes, I get lost in the screen!
    • Yeah, I think that Leslie's speech would have had a bit more of an impact if Ted had been the Dupree's son, with Nicole being the daughter in law they loved like a daughter. But being that he's the son in law, and that Eva (at least not right now) isn't technically a Dupree, it doesn't hold as much weight. They aren't caring much for Ted right now and their feelings could be trickling down to Eva. Though, I do think they have some sympathy for her. I really enjoyed today's show. Loved a stripped, down hurt but still strong in her resolve Nicole. DD continues to shine and shows why she is IMO the heart of the show. I felt her words, and anger at Ted and how she broke down in Kat's arms at the end. She is just wonderful all the way around. I also loved the way that Anita read Leslie. She was spot on about her and how mishandled everything with Ted and Eva. And speaking of Leslie... I immediately thought the same thing once I saw that scene. That what she exhibited was trash behavior. I don't think she's a good mother. In fact, I think she's lousy. Granted, I have missed some episodes, but I haven't really seen her do anything to indicate that she really cares for Eva or her well being. All she's really done is try and manipulate/use Eva for her own agenda since she came to town.
    • I thought Brandon C was much more believable as Martin today.  Before, I watched an actor trying to portray a character.  Friday and today, I simply felt the character.
    • The way Leslie uses her love shower Eva with and then snatches it away when Eva doesn’t do what she wants is something that should be focused on down the road.    Great end to the episode overall and kudos to the writing and production team for carefully executing all of this.

date: Monday, May 5 | Christopher Dunn, Lynn Martin | Anthony Pascarelli Dana is certifiably insane. Beyond insane. And I oop... Anita is about to pop off on her, and this is where it gets good. Oh God, Deadbeat, stop while you're ahead. You are not one to talk with how you treat your husband and children. Settle. Go on, Nicole. Tell Theodore exactly who his busted ass is. Not Dana comparing herself to those she's compared herself to. Damn, Katherine is really putting Eva beyond the bottom of her shoe with her insults. Savage, but deserved, because she called out Eva the first day. She knew, and not a single person believed her. Oh, Theodore, how dare you try and play yourself on the same level as Nicole; it's completely different. Mama Anita is up to bat, and she's going to come out swinging. And she delivered it to Dana in the way only the matriarch of a family could. Nicole kicking Theodore out "day by day" is everything. She's not taking this anything but day by day. W H E W... Katherine telling Eva she's dead to her. Wow. That's got to cut. Dana locking Eva's ass out and drinking her wine in her robe is the ultimate villain. True villain. Notes: Anyone trying to sell that Brandon Claybon (Martin) has improved in his acting must be lying, because this is laughable and bad. Next up for recast: the role of Martin Richardson. Omg. It's so damn bad. This man cannot act. At all. He's got to GO! Daphnée Duplaix (Nicole) is showing how much she's been missed from daytime. Ambyr Michelle (Eva) once again gave an award-winning performance in her scenes. Outstanding, standout star! The montage with Tamara Tunie (Anita) singing "Amazing Grace" was a brilliant touch to wrap up the episode, and to allow us the ability of moving on on Thursday.
    • That ending was beautifully done. Anita took us to church.
