Nola/Buzz terrible story, when it could have been a funny story about these oddball characters who everyone loves despite their eccentric behavior, getting together. A nice comedic break from the sturm and drang. They had a lot in common, blue color up bringing, questionable moral choices when they were young. Always thought that they should have brought Nola in to the action earlier, when Jenna was fighting with that bad guy and they go to New York to scam him. Nola could have gone with Buzz to help the scam, and during the course of it all she could have not only found her zest and her adventurous side again (not to mention her talent for deception) but she could have fallen in love with Buzz. That would have started a triangle that made sense (well nothing about Buzz and Jenna made sense...) But having a lovesick Nola stalk Buzz, come on!!!!

I wasnt watching Kirk and Sam...never understood who the Walsh silbings were in relation to the character that the India actress played in relation to who Sam was...(Lucinda's sister right???) Marland's ATWT was getting a little too dense at that time with all of these extra characters coming to town. The show needed the same trimming down to the core families that he did when he got there.

I don't think there's any way Buzz and Nola would have worked---Deas was a flaming scenery-chewer by then.

Connor and Evan were Lucinda's step-grandchildren. Royce, Neal and Sam (Lucinda's half-brother and sisters) would have been their step-uncle and aunts. I've forgotten (or maybe it was never quite explained) if Royce, Neal and Sam were full siblings or if Sam was from a subsequent relationship of Gloria (Lucinda's mother).

Thanks, those were the years, that I stopped watching as it got so dark, depressing and boring...(I think I had it with Marland's GL with the Angle Lange storyline and Margo's rape...yes, well written and well acted blah, blah, blah but not what I wanted to see on my lunch time. Especially since Angel was such a simpering fool and then they paired her with Seth Snyder...(oh my god, I am going into a coma thinking about it.) Turned over to Curlee's GL at that time and really (unfortunatley as things turned out) never went back to ATWT but stuck with GL.

Kathy was playing Kim during the Centerville tornado sequences in the summer of 1975. I realise that I sound like a broken record, but Soap Central's dates are not correct. Kathryn Hays went on medical leave at the end of October 1975. She returned the first week of February 1976, giving her a leave of a little over three months. Actress Patty McCormack subbed as Kim in Kathy's absence, playing the character during Jennifer's death and the expansion of the series to an hour.

Correct on both counts.

I think I remember reading something about McCormack being surprised she wasn't there longer, or she had moved to NY to be there longer, or something.

It must have been tough for fans to see a temp playing the scenes with Jennifer, and probably tough for McCormack too.

Soapcentral has some great info but some is off - the dates for Lindsay Frost Betsy are way off, I think.

What did you think of the various Sandys?

Thanks saynotoursoap and CarlD. I was wondering why they would tell such a serious story without Kathy in the role. Although the same goes for Jennifer's death but they couldn't help it either way.

Does anyone know anything more about the Gil Stallings story? I know he tampered with Lisa's brakes and trapped her in a fire at the bookstore, but what else did he do?

Patty is 12 years younger than Hays-did that show onscreen? Also I assume she was brunette for the role,as most of what I have seen her in,she was blonde.

A very suspicious delivery man was found near the bookstore and when Lisa described the man to Jay, he realized he was his stepfather, Gil Stallings. Nobody believed that Gil is the one who tried to kill Lisa twice. One night, Gil locked Lisa in a closet and told Jay he married his mother for the money but the money was left to Jay. He would kill Lisa and made it look as though Jay killed her and then killed himself. Grant learned form Salt Lake City police Gil inherited Jay’s legacy and realized Jay and Lisa were in danger. He surprised Gil who had shot Jay. Jay was hospitalized and Gil was killed escaping.

In that 80's era of big,big hair Colleen really stood out with that chic cut.It really became her signature look.

Regarding Barbara's mother Jennifer, little mention is ever made of Geraldine Court, who originated the role. How long was she on? Did anyone (saynotoursoap?)see her in the role?

I see Gillian Spencer took over in 72.Was this because Irna returned and didn't like Geraldine in the role?

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.
