OLTL: Discussion for the week September 27

I really enjoyed the Clint/Natalie and Rex/Natalie scenes today. I love the contrast between how Clint tiptoes around Jessica and coddles and protects her, and how he shoots from the hip with Natalie (and Natalie shoots back), but it's still loving and protective. I've been dying for someone to ask Natalie what her future with John is supposed to look like. I really didn't like her answer, but I am still thrilled that Clint elevated the issue, and that he's one of few people in Llanview who isn't firmly on deck of the Good Ship McBain. And I have always loved Rex and Natalie's sibling relationship. These two have a unique bond and we see far too little of them together. Those scenes (and the Bo and Nora ones as well) were just the epitomy of what's been missing on this show for me. The family dynamic based on the rich histories of the characters and their relationships.

And I do love David Fumero. He was really in his element in those scenes with Rex and Gigi.

Clint's healthy respect for Natalie stands in glaring contrast to his coddling of fragile Jessica, and I enjoy the contrast very much. I wasn't a Kim fan but her scenes with Natalie were the type of complex family feuding this show needs more of.

David Fumero is very good in charming, fun flirting stuff. Cristian comes off so much more mature and a real sensitive man compared to that loser Rex.

When the model came in (and BTW I've done life study art classes--the models change into a robe and ONLY drop trou when everyone's ready--it's not a strip show...) my immediate thought was "Wow, Valentini and Carlivati are so intune with what's missing with this show and what's needed--screw stories and characters that make sense and are appealing--we need more random, vacant, gay porn star naked guys!". I admit I did enjoy more what became of the story though--his attitude, and when Christian came back, etc.

I think I just no longer have any interest in looking at guys with that body type on this show--The Ford bros have ruined it for me (Well Ford himself in particular). I did almos thave that thought though--I mean they djust fired Marko for good--that's exactly the kinda guy Valentini would hire to replace him. It's like he's building up a roster for, in case OLTL ever is canceled, he can instantly build his own soft core gay porn series.

On its own I don't really mind the Cris/Gigi school stuff, it's cute and endearing and I think FF has always excelled at this sort of screwball comedy. The problem is the larger context of the show. Cris's romances are interchangeable and it's clear the show has no investment in anything he does with anyone he's with, but fans did actually really like him with Layla and now that is clearly heading for doom as they [!@#$%^&*] around with him and FF while hoping Gina Tognoni might finally have chemistry with one of the useless leads they currently have around. Okay, well, I don't consider TSJ or JPL outright useless, but the fact is their acting and storylines have left lots to be desired for years, not to mention what's become of their characters. But Rex and Kelly? Who cares? And no one cares about Cris and Gigi, or Cris and anyone except....Layla. David Fumero's a nice guy, so is Cris, but the character might as well be recurring.

And then there's Florencia Lozano and KDP. They play their hearts out in a very uninspiring, predictable storyline with idiot plotting while TSJ's acting seems to be focused on how many anytime minutes his phone has left. Blair has no life but mourning Tea, which is, let's face it, a bit of a stretch for her character no matter how hard the actresses sold that stuff. And while FL is talented, when she comes back it's clear it will be all about her and Todd again. But her and Todd didn't work frontburner together last year. The pairing couldn't sustain itself, at least not this time around, for a number of reasons, primarily in my mind because nobody believes in Todd anymore after '08 and because the writing was so slanted against anyone against them; everything they get story-wise is interlopers, horrible accidents, and turning various other characters into iterations of Jeffrey Dahmer. So what happens next? Todd gets crabs and is framed for raping Langston by, oh, I don't know, let's say Renee, maybe Charlie? Who cares? These women deserve so much better. Kill Todd until Roger Howarth comes back, see how FL and KDP fare with other people. I personally think FL would do fine with anyone not named John Bolger. Meanwhile, Marty is doing what? Propping FV's latest Broadway find? I love that we hire Broadway actors, a daytime staple, but I could not give two shits about Hannah, especially when they just - big surprise - totally dumped the incredibly talented Jason Tam. You could've worked that kid to death. But no. Old-ass Nate gotta eat.

At least there's Clint, though his story is tainted by Inez. Clint was right about John, of course. You know he was about to say "Jared would never have done you like that!" Maybe Frons redacted the line. I know what you meant, Clint! I'm righttherewitchu.

You beat me to it, though I was thinking 2000 Malibu Road/9 1/2 Weeks/Silk Stalkings/Red Shoe Diaries/OLTL 1993. It was kind of like a welcome old friend though, but totally wasted on that nude model crap.

Dani looks like her shower has too much pressure.

Did 9 1/2 Weeks have sax? LOL Anyway, yeah--I was surprised they didn't have that cue way back when Ford started doing his constant strips.

Vee I agree full on with everything in your first paragraph. Actually I agree with everything you said--though I had no idea Hannah was a Broadway talent (but as you point out so was Tam and he was replaced by the Ford bros, who I'd wager a guest AREN'T from a heavy Broadway, or Hell, community theatre background...) Only thing I disagree with is I don't see Roger Howarth doing anything more to make Todd, at least as currently written, any more interesting...
