when i hear that just about EVERYTHING on y&r is bad, i have to tune out -- on the people saying it.

it's the writing, it's the directing, it's the acting, it's the hair, it's the wardrobe, it's the lighting, it's the set design, it's the casting, it's the production. christ, why the hell do you WATCH something you think is so bad?

it's open season on y&r around here, and has been for some time. of course, people are entitled to their opinions. but it's a total downer to read post after post of criticism. y&r was NEVER as good as people say it was during the bill bell years, and it's NEVER been as bad as people say it is now.

i remember rolling my eyes and complaining like hell during those bell years because of inane, insane plots and deathly slow stories. yeah, there's stuff to complain about today, but no more than on any other soap.

i understand that most people preferred heather tom as victoria. but she's been gone for YEARS, and it's time to give it up. now it's just post after post about amelia h's hair, for god's sake. AH has been pretty damn good since she was paired up with BM.

and can we let the davetta sherwood stuff die, too? she's also been out for YEARS. i personally thought davetta was boring in the role, and t o me, CK is lily -- with all her problems. of course, it's dangerous to say that around here.

i could go through a ton of other examples, but i made my point, which i guess i'll get blasted for now. i think y&r has been better in the past month than it has been in a long time, and i've really enjoyed watching it. i'm not looking through some bill bell eyeglasses of some supposed perfect years.

This holds no weight. No one gives a damn about Y&R anymore. It's less "hate" more "shake your head" because of how awful this show has become.

Had you posted this last year when everyone was up in arms, I could see your point. But no one cares. There's barely six pages in this week's discussion thread.

I still remember how unaware I was a year and a half ago. All the signs were there, people were done with the show, yet I was refusing to accept the fact that this show was just... ugh. I'm tired of using the negative words. It really isn't worth the effort.

I can't imagine how it would have been if I had the chance to watch anything pre-2007 of Y&R.

The thing is... it really IS that bad. And when I say that, you KNOW it's true. I still watch and find goodness here and there, sometimes the writing will be good, not often... but mostly I watch to see a good performance here and there. If Billy Miller wasn't on EVERY DAY and Eden Reigel was GONE, it would help immensley. I must say, bad acting performances has been the biggest issue for me in the past few weeks, namely Heinle and Reigel.

Welcome to SON. I see your point though, but at the same time if it annoys you you should reevaluate the site you are on. That's a part of the experience here. Me, I mostly don't watch, but when I glimpse something for what-ever reason I'm still utterly amazed by the down grade. Clearly, besides what I've already stated in my reply to you, we disagree on how bad the quality has gotten but your opinion is your opinion. I think I can draw comparisons to you complaining about how the posters here complain about the show, to well, the posters complaing about the show. Why do they watch? is the same as -why do you come here or read those posts? I'm not saying you shouldn't or should. By all means you're welcomed byme and I'm s ure others; but I'm just saying it's the nature of the beast

People are upset bc they hold Y&R to a high standard. There was a time when it was the crown jewel of daytime and the writing and production values were top notch. Even during its down points, it still came across as a very well produced show with some of the best talents. Now, it just a shell of its former self. Even when compared to the other soaps out there, Y&R is just plain bad and having watched a bit of every soap on the air, I can safely say it is the worst show on daytime television. I can find something at least mildly entertaining about the rest but there is NOTHING going for Y&R these days. Every single plot stinks, the show reeks of desperation, the actors phone it in on a regular basis, characters are written out of character, dialogue and story make little sense and every episode is like a 40 minute moment of epic fail. I wish there was something good to say about it, but really that is far and few between these days. Its a mess in nearly every way

Guess I was the only one who watched?...My only comment is that the actress playing Skye looks so much like Vail that if they wanted a stronger actress to play Heather they should've cast her in the role instead of horribly mis-cast/unimpressive Eden Riegel.

Oh and AH just wow...for someone who just lost a kid...I felt nothing for her..

    • This is (maybe) overly simplistic and nonsoapy, but Doug needs to go to Gamblers Anonymous, to deal with the addictive neurological excitement hits that gambling gives him - and which control his life. Vanessa needs to go to therapy to find ways to remain healthfully lusty and sex-positive, but to stay away from anyone who would demean her.
    • YT keeps commending GL clips to me. I discovered Kathleen Cullen was on in Christmas 1987. Was there any talk of making it permanent  or was this just a special visit? I wish they had made the visit permanent. I liked her chemistry with Grant Aleksander.
    • I'm not sure it's as unpopular as you think.  I just think the show knew they were in a bind, and needed a proven couple for the viewers to invest in. Trying to reunite Vanessa and Ross had just failed in 87. I don't think Ed and Holly's affair was well received, as Simon and Garrett had a brother/sister chemistry. Enter Billy and Vanessa, who give you history and an out not to try and do a Josh/Reva/Billy triangle, which would've really wrecked the relationship between Josh and Billy. I'd have been ok with trying Vanessa/Ross again, and doing a Vanessa/Ross/Holly/Billy quad for a while. I hated Nadine. HATED. She had to be the most insufferable also-ran before ATWT's Julia Lindsay. This is where I wish I knew Roger's history better.

    • GROSS. Michael Swan was hot back in his ATWT days. Now he's 76 and WAY past his hot years.
    • Since she kidnapped, locked up and tried to kill her father's wife I'd say that is still a pretty big deal
    • I'm good with the gushing, too. There aren't many soap icons like John Black, and that's important to celebrate and remember. And yes, life does go on for other characters, but as they say, timing is everything. Going sky diving the day before the funeral? And during a week of shows that were so powerful emotionally? No.
    • No. There might have been a slight pause for dramatic effect after his "death," but pretty soon after they showed him in France getting plastic surgery and getting involved with his doctor, then planning with her to bring Christina to France. (She thought he had good reason to do it; she wasn't a bad person or anything). Now that I think of it, there must have been some kind of pause before that, during the 70s. Rita was accused of killing a private patient for an inheritance when she lived in Texas. Part of the backstory was that Roger had been there, too. Not sure exactly when or how long that was.
