How much longer does CW have?

Even if the new Nikita remake is successful I hope the CW stops with the remakes. They have one that failed and one that never did anything well beyond it's pilot.

If they ever get shows with black actors, I hope they promote them better. There was hardly any promos for the black sitcoms and a ton for the other shows like Gossip Girl.

Not true. When the two networks merged The WB brought their greatest assets to the CW, and UPN brought theirs (which happened to be black sitcoms). Reba was not cancelled because it was a white sitcom, that is totally irrelevant.

Yeah. Reba, because of good ratings, was given a pity pick up for a 13 episode final season and I think was one of the highest rated CW shows and still got cancelled.

Dawn Ostroff should have picked up Veronica Mars (cult favorite) and Everwood (another cult favorite). I think many fans are STILL bitter over them being cancelled. They never should have renewed 7th Heaven. They only did because it got a ton of viewers for it's finale on the WB.

CW needs an overhaul. OTH is past it's prime. It's done. Time to move on.

90210 has so much potential but it feels so ... generic when it doesn't need to be. Nothing stands out about it and it makes me really sad. LOL

The WB should have just stuck around, taking over the UPN affiliates. I liked the idea of the CW but it's been so mishandled.

And BTW, All My Shadows, ABC Family HAD a drama with black leads, it was Lincoln Heights and it was cancelled after like 2 seasons ...

The problem with CW is that they don't have any very successful shows that would balance out lower rated quality programs. Reba could have been the hit that would have helped pay for quality shows.

Most networks dump black shows as soon as they feel they are successful without them...if Players is a success NBC might do the same in a few years, of course it depends on the rest of their lineup. They have been lucky recently, managing to get a few new shows which seem popular (like Parenthood).

As for CW, it's the same problem as I had with WB after their first few years, it all became so stylized and catered to a certain niche I had no interest in. I always seem to prefer the first few years of a network, when it's rougher around the edges (give me the apartment, 60s reruns FX any day over garbage like Nip/Tuck or Rescue Me).

I still like GOSSIP GIRL, in spite of the machinations used to keep Blair and Chuck apart. I can even deal with Blair going to NYU (or did she transfer to Barnard? I don't remember).

I don't watch anything else on CW. I liked OTH for awhile, but got so sick of everyone's going back to Paul Johanssen's character for more abuse, I stopped watching. Way beyond viable, that character.

If it wasn't for Vampire Diaries, this network would be utterly useless, of course I wouldn't mind it if Diaries moved to another network, but in reality such a good thing isn't going to come true. I think the CW needs to stop trying to recapture the success of the other shows they have by cloning them, and instead try to break the mold with new shows with fresh ideas, maybe they'd have a few more hits on their hands.

This network is doomed from the start: their target demo is simply no longer watching regular TV. It's as easy as that.

You need some must-see tv stuff to get the audience watching and this is hard to achieve: Vampire Diaries is only working because of the current Twilight craze and will soon fade.

I used to watch lots of THE WB shows - but even quit Smallville years ago - and the only the show I ever watched on The CW was the new Melrose PLace. I don't see any reason to check out sth. else since their line-up is uber-targeted for giggly school girls...

The only way any of these pathetic netlets will survive is if their parent company decides to acquire some sort of sport for them.

FOX was merely a "netlet" until Rupert Murdoch banked everything on football. It was an investment that paid off in the long run.

If FOX or Paramount were smart, they would have done everything to snatch NBA or NCAA basketball rights for their respective netlets, MyNetworkTV or the CW.

I forgot all about MyNetWork  I think the prob with the CW is it's kinda too samey. The only show I reallt watch on it is Vampire Diaries which I only tuned into because I'm always curious to see what Kevin Williamson is up to and became a surprise fave of mine last year. I also follow Supernatural--mainly cuz the guy I see loves it, but it has some good and some bad moments (though I have little faith in it this year now that it's changing direction and the creator has left). I used to follow One Tree Hill--loved Season 1 almost despite myself, but can't believe it's still on, and as much as I love campy soaps this is one show that was better when it was more realistic--and watched the first few Top Models (also can't believe their still making them...) I do think it needs to find a new direction or something--a night of sitcoms wouldn't be a bad idea. I know a lot of (primarily women) in their 20s and ealry 30s who have become fans of Vampire Diaries despite themselves so I think they could build for a TINY bit of an older demo. Nikita is actually getting decent word of mouth but I have to agree on the remake thing (and that was my whole problem with 90210 and Melrose--90210 to me just feels generic, as someone else said. Melrose though was even more wrong headed--it felt like a high school version of Melrose--everyone seemed so young--whereas I think the network coulda had a chance to grab some of the audience who grew up on the original version--nothing about this remake would appeal tothem except maybe the chance to briefly see the characters you once remembered in their little cameos...

The average age of TVD's audience, I believe, is like 33 or 35 or something like that. So yeah, that goes perfectly in line with the "teens don't watch no networks!!" reasoning and the "CW needs to broaden their horizons" reasoning.

As far as the remakes, I couldn't agree more. I don't need a carbon copy of the original, but I want the look and feel, the tone, the idea to be the same. The only similarities 90210 has with BH90210 are superficial (look! the theme song!! look, they're from Middle America!! look, it's West Bev!!).

    • Thank you for the info about SFT related to EON. I thought about adding SFT to my watch list, but I don't know if it's the kind of soap for me. I know very little about it except for a few of the actors and that it was on two different networks. I also know based on this board or somewhere else that the two Lizas both died young from cancer. Warms my heart to see so many EON people on SFT because they are such good performers and I wish they had been moved to other shows. Perhaps, they were and I'm just not aware of it.
    • There was a few times when Silk Press Sheila came into her apartment after going grocery shopping.. she could have been unloading her items as she talked to Eva or Ted and saw a few of the products on the counter that are P & G products.
    • I enjoyed today's show. I liked seeing Mona again and her confronting both Eva and Leslie. I did feel for Eva, especially at the end of their confrontation, when Mona said "Good", when Eva mentioning losing everybody she cared about. Though, I can understand Mona's anger and Leslie deserved every bit of her ire. Both Leslie/Eva betrayed her especially Leslie. Mona put her both her professional and personal relationships with the Duprees on the line and what Leslie/Eva did put her in an awkward position. Speaking of Leslie she continues to act trifling and caring only about herself and her needs. At this point, it only seems like she cares about herself and wanting Ted for herself. I'm not even sure how if her feelings for Mona were even sincere, though she called out about people turning against her after Mona left. I have yet to see Leslie really display that she sincerely cares about anyone, and I do think that needs to change at some point. I enjoyed Nicole and her scenes today with Leslie/her children. I also like that Martin took a more sensible approach regarding how the family should handle Eva. He did straight up acknowledge she was his sister, and it seemed like he was opened to up to accepting her. I think he will be among the first in the family to soften towards/accept her. And in spite of the way she was introduced into their lives, he will end up being happy to have two little sisters. I wonder again about Kat/Eva being twins/Eva being Nicole, when Martin/Kat brought up them being the same age and Kat even used the word "twins" in disbelief, when Martin suggested they shared a connection from the beginning.
    • LOL! They did show a Pantene and Dawn commercial today. Image them incorporating those into the show.
    • He joined Julian in Bermuda when he getting a divorce from Ivy. And, was the one who tricked Theresa and Julian in to believing that they had gotten married there. That would be nice.  That was such a good book, and it was too bad that the show retconned it so much. I still have my copy somewhere.
    • Instead of Febreze, Eva pulled a few tissues of Puffs and cried into them. Hayley comes in with a pack of Always and is like "Well, Bill turns out I'm not pregnant." Andre and Derek sharing a bottle of Pepto after eating Ashley's cooking. Vernon and Anita drinking up their Metamucil.
    •   I liked the actress who played Tina. She was not the typical soap hire. I hadn't thought of her in many years until I saw a Spauldingfield video of her. It makes sense if they were planning to make her Frank's daughter as she was tied to the Coopers and nothing else was done with her beyond singing and the relationship with Marcus that Rauch never cared about. David was hurt by Monti Sharp leaving the role. I don't blame Monti for leaving, as he was getting less and less to do, but Russell Curry was a very generic actor was too old for the part. Yes, black don't crack, but he was nearly 40. When David returns at the end of the decade they cast an actor who was a little too young, which just shows how little interest the show had in the character or black characters in general (and random recasting would return with the Boudreauxs). Marcus is a character who got a lot of buzz early on and then the show lost interest (again).  Anyway, if you stay watching, be warned that the Hart/Dinah/Roger stuff gets worse and worse. Luckily you don't have the same lengthy ties to the show so it may be OK for you. It made me feel a bit sick at the time. Thanks for giving more info. And to @DeeVee and @P.J. as well. I suppose there were tiers of people who were seen as disposable, and Eve was shielded for a time due to that tier. Once they were clearly getting rid of characters like Justin or Amanda, then she was also on that list (I know she left before they did but it wasn't that long before). Characters like Eve, quiet, able to be used in many avenues, are important for community, or they should be, although she had clearly reached a natural end. The problem is no one really replaced her - all the characters who were likely seen as dull were shipped out from 83-85, and we were left with an unbalanced canvas (and characters who were meant to be exciting but were still dull, like Calla, Simon, et al).

    • I just find her obnoxious and I need somebody to start checking her (other than Bill) without couching it in you’re so strong and wonderful and Bill did you so wrong. Even Anita pulls punches with her. Her personality would definitely rub some people the wrong way and I hope once the canvas evolves beyond Dupreeland, she gets some adversaries who aren’t villains or 90-lb. weaklings like Haley.
    • Wow.... Anita and Dani are the ultimate symbol of mean girls.   I hate to tell this to Dani... but Eva's ability to do hair is a much more coveted job and skill than Dani's modeling.   I doubt Dani could cut it if she lost her money and was truly forced to start over from square 1.
