OLTL: Could Jean P. be an improvement over Ron C.?

I guess a lot also depends on the producer, and who runs the network. I'm very biased about Sheffer, but if OLTL had a strong producer and if Frons weren't running ABC Daytime then he could work, as McTavish, not exactly seen as a good writer in recent years, worked at AMC up to about 1994 or early 1995. Unfortunately there is no real control or intelligent producing on soaps today.

1. As long as JP doesn't write another high school musical, I welcome her with open arms.

2. I think if they work as co-head writers, it might strike a nice balance.

3. There are bigger problems with the show than just the writing. For example, I know people complain that he doesn't write for certain characters (Marty) or writes poorly for others (Dorian/David). I think the actors have a lot to do with it. I know with Susan Haskell, they've worked out a schedule where she only films one day a week. Tuc Watkins will be leaving as soon as Desperate Houswives begins filming. It's really hard when actors work part-time, they come and go, have month-long summer vacations, etc. All of that, plus the fact that their budget keeps getting cut, I understand why OLTL is over-run with teens and new actors who will work for less. I'm not saying I like it but I get it.

Even though I'm a supporter of Ron and think that Frons shares just as much of the blame, Ron probably needs to go.

Not sure if Ron just ran out of ideas or iwasn't there a rumor that since Kishkill, Ron's been HW in just name only, and that Frons has been dictating all the stories? Either way, someone new is probably needed.

I wouldn't choose Jean P though. She'd be worse than Ron IMO. Not sure who I'd get to replace Ron, with a mircomanager like Frons, I doubt anyone good would want the job.

    • I assume in name only?  One Stormy Night wasn't exactly steamy.  If it's a literal throwback then Stephanie's writing about sexy times her own Uncle was having lol. Since I am going to surmise it's just a throwback to the name, Night Sins and Winter Heat both sound sexier.  Just saying.  I swear Jamey (and Ron) just google things and land on the first thing they like and decide it's a good throwback to history without watching it.
    • I usually don't want Tide placement in the middle of an intense sad scene, but this is an interesting point

    • Thanks!   Was anyone watching during this time? Wondering how Peggy’s rape played out onscreen. It just seems cruel to subject the Brooks family to this trauma a 2nd time.   Feels like the writers have already given up on the character of Jennifer, even though she sticks around another year-plus. She should be a passionate and fierce protective mother, but instead she seems just reactionary (and not even mentioned in this recap) This was also the case in ‘73 when Chris was raped. The writers are definitely more invested Stuart as the Brooks parent.
    • BTG got another SNL reference at 00:50  CONTEXT (so it isn't misconstrued) in this joke swap segment, Michael Che frequently makes his white cohost Colin Jost read racist jokes written by Che.

    • It's obvious that Israel's presence is a major divisive issue, and this is something that the EBU needs to deal with. According to the now published results Israel got 13 out of a possible 19 max points in the semi-final, and while their song isn't bad there's no way they would get those numbers without some kind of manipulation/political voting. They are clearly using this contest as a way of improving their somewhat tarnished reputation. I know that some people are comparing this to the massive sympathy votes that Ukraine gets and which propelled them to victory in 2022, but I feel that that was a more genuine show of support than this concerted effort from Israel to influence the televoting. I even had an ad on Youtube from Israel in Swedish(!) asking for votes! It might not be against any rules, but it feels a bit icky nonetheless.
    • Yeah, as you wrote, an Israeli win would have been a political disaster. Congratulations to Austria. 0 points from the televoting to Switzerland was a disgrace. Other than that, I really enjoyed the show ... but I'm also glad that Eurovision season is over

    • Hahaha Sorry if I was too negative, I just started typing and typing once I got going hahaha
    • @dc11786 Thanks for taking time to answer my various questions, along with giving your thoughts on the different writing teams. I wonder why they didn't just have Ryder and TR leave together if Jane was going anyway. The discussions over the last few pages have made me more interested in watching these episodes than I have been over the years - without the extra details and analyses provided, these years can be difficult to decipher (not helped by how often Jo seems like a side character).
