IIRC, Robert Costello, who had worked with Nancy Barrett on DARK SHADOWS, asked her to play Faith after the original actress, Faith Catlin, was let go; and that Barrett agreed to step in, but only until a permanent replacement was found.

I, too, am confused about whether or not Nancy Barrett was a temp.

If she was only a temp, it was a secret at the time. Perhaps much later, some other facts were presented in the press, but not at the time it was occurring.

Not everything in the soap opera news columns and magazines is 100% correct, but most I've read made is sound like she was hired as a permanent Faith.

I posted these first two newspaper comings & goings in the RH thread, in May.

Nancy Barrett joins cast of 'Ryan's Hope'

Nancy Barrett has joined the cast of ABC's “Ryan's Hope”. Miss Barrett has the role of Faith Coleridge.

Ms. Barrett's role on “Ryan's Hope” marks her return to ABC where she previously appeared on the network’s daytime series “One Life to Live”, in the role of Rachel Wilson, and on the former ABC series, “Dark Shadows”, for five years. She has also played continuing roles on “Somerset” and “The Doctors”. This past season she appeared in the “Adam's Chronicles” as Elizabeth Cameron. Her earlier television credits include appearances on the prime time series, “N.Y.P.D.” and “Dupont Show of the Week.”

The talented and versatile actress has appeared on Broadway in the musical “Pickwick” and in numerous off-Broadway and stock and repertory productions, including “The Tragic Historie of Dr. Faustus”, “Telemachus Clay”, as Luisa in the national company of “The Fantasticks”, “The Star-Spangled Girl”, “Little Miss Sunshine”, and “Take Her, She's Mine.”

Miss Barrett played feature roles in two MGM films based on the ABC series, “Dark Shadows”. She portrayed Carolyn Stoddard in “House of Dark Shadows” and Claire Jenkins in “Night of Dark Shadows.”

A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, the blonde-hair, blue-eyed actress grew up near Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She has been interested in theater since the age of ten when she produced, directed, and acted in her own backyard productions. Miss Barrett received her B/A/ in theater arts from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Tune In Tomorrow

Nancy Barrett fared no better than her predecessor Faith Catlin in the role of Faith Coleridge on Ryan's Hope. She's been dropped, and the search for another Faith Coleridge continues. Meanwhile, Jody Catlin (no relation) has been cast to play the limited role of lawyer Anne Burney. Jody is the wife of Justin Deas (Bucky Carter on the show) but don't snicker the word nepotism. It's pure talent that got her the job.

__________________________________________________________________________________________

The following can be found in the highlights of a Nancy Barrett TV BY DAY/November 1976 article at Dark Shadows Online -

Nancy said that after her stint on One Life to Live had ended, she went back to college again. However, this time, she was offered a part on Ryan's Hope (the role of Faith Coleridge). "Again, I chose to do the soap. But I might still get back to school eventually. I can do anything I want to, and that's a nice feeling."

____________________________________________________________________________________________

In one 1976 interview, Nancy said she auditioned with Malcolm Groome and Justin Deas for the role.

For her interview in Day TV/December 1976 , the writer had to go back and add a postscript to the interview for Nancy was gone by the time they were going to print. The writer talked to Nancy again, to ask her if she had anything she wanted to say about the new information that she was leaving the program, and Nancy said to call her leaving Ryan's Hope “contractual differences”. The writer and his editor added their thoughts that made it sound like it was more the shows decision that she leave becasue the show wanted to tweak the character again.

I hope you can see why some of us are confused. ;-)

That part I didn't know. I do remember trying to tune into Passions at that time but I seem to fear the ominous voice that replaces an actor so I turned to ABC (the NBC affiliate actually aired Passions an hour earlier at the time so I think I watched All My Children or part of Y&R.) Nothing against the actor replacing the other actor but that voice creeps me out even when Y&R does it with the actors (like Doug Davidson and Christian LeBlanc.) I think Days is the only soap that doesn't have "the recast voice."

    • I HATED Infinity (I could care less about Kyle Sampson and his hanger ons and the dumb Lujack video, and Mindy and Kurt were strong armed into being a fave couple and married off way too soon (Jeva didnt get that big of a wedding.) I did like the Fishing Mystery (despite the changing of history..it was murky enough that it could be fudged) and the Cabin mystery started out good ..I thought Tony was hot and I liked Annabelle, it had supernatural elements but they did not overtake the story (i.e. Reva traveling through time..) and I love a gothic mystery.. however, it was bizarre that nosy Nola wasnt in the mix...she barely seemed interested that her sister in law was psychic, there may be ghosts in her brothers house, etc.  I don't know if there was a behind the scenes issue with Brown and Kobe, or if Long just wanst interested or felt tied up writing for Quola.  I would have had Quint blow up in the cabin instead of Hillary but..The big problem that the end result was...boring. Okay so there are black Spauldings..and they disappeared...so what now? Not only was J gross...(I can't believe the actor IS actually just as obnoxious as J) they made Chelle into an airhead horn dog going after her cousin. Yes, by adoption but still her cousin. I wondered why she was not calling Nola "Aunt" when she first arrived, and they barely acknowledge each other ( I would think Nola would glomb on to mothering her sister's daughter, especially with Stacy not in town, much to Ed's chagrin) but it was in service to...this??? Wait until Chele gets all horny for an angel...oyyyy! No one else in town reacted to Nadine's death,, cause Deas had to have his big dumb over the top reaction scene to Deenie's death. I can't imaging watching that scnene and thinking he was a good actor!

I know, I'm getting the sense they expected Beaty to stay if they were going the rehabilitation route with Abby. A few weeks ago, when Michelle was dressing sexy for her date with J, she let Abby try on a dress and Rick then taught her what dating was like, and she went in and kissed him. They were clearly setting up the Abby/Rick story, but then suddenly it has pivoted to Rick falling back in love with Annie and trying to convince her not to go to Josh since he and Reva are secretly meeting at the cabin (Annie is getting unhinged here). But with Rick focused on Annie again, it would have left room for Abby to work with Brent, had Beaty stayed (at least this is what I'm assuming based on what I'm seeing). Rick is also now in Blake's orbit - they both just got in a bar fight post-Ross/Amanda kissing and Annie rejecting Rick's advances. They're together and Blake is now coming onto Rick while they drink... uh oh.
    • She is truly in such a delusional state that it's hard to know what's true but I'm sure there are some easter eggs in there. I am very curious to see how they utilize Leslie now that everybody knows who she is. If they do go with a connection to Anita in someway that would definitely be interesting. Anita was the first and only person so far that Leslie seemed intimidated by.
    • I do get your point about the Q's stuff with Lois back in the day.  I will say there were a lot more Quartermaines and a lot more stupid, corrupted plotting in the 90's.  I think the show went out of their way to make Lois seem almost naive, unprepared for such an insane family The whole idea that Lois had to move far away from Ned and PC to raise Brook Lynn was a bit flimsy for me as well.  I mean, no judgement, but BLQ still got knocked up as a teenager lol.  I appreciated Lois was also hard on Sonny back then.  Lois could clearly see his flaws even if she loved him. Yeah, Sonny, Carly and Jason don't really deserve human connections with anyone but themselves lol.  I always have wondered if the show did want to re-pair Jason/Sam and whatever happened with Kelly happened.
    • I might've somehow missed it but what happened to Jacob's partner Detective Marcel Malone? And Jacob's shiny bald headed daddy Chief Elon Hawthorne as well?
    • Agree to disagree. I think both Jason & Carly do human connecting pretty much all the time. Sonny is different. And I think Jason's return is pretty clear. It was, and is, about Jason's capacity for self-sacrifice & his capacity to dedicate himself to a thing or person or whatever in a very singular, possibly even extreme way. Steve has tried to make the point to fans that Jason would have possibly done this for other people, not just for Carly. If I try to follow that to some conclusion, I ask myself who? Danny? Yes. Jake? Yes. Sonny? Yes. Sam? I'm not sure. Liz? I think so,  probably. Monica? Definitely.  Any other Q? No. Spinelli? Strong maybe.  What do you think?  One thing that helps me think about it is the speech he gave when he talked about getting the new ink. (tatooed arm) Valerie Cooper? Or Spencer?
    • After Season 1 they jumped to Season 25. I queried why but they didn’t reply. They’ve also added the episodes to their on-demand section too (as well as live streaming them)  Oddly, some S25 episodes are the longer 21-22 minute edit used for international distribution, but the majority appear to be the shorter US edit. They also blur out the B&B web-address at the end of the credits which I can’t fathom why. They’re also very diligent in ensuring the ‘BBL Distribution’ slide is cut from the very end too - there’s an abrupt fade out of the music which typically would overlay into the distribution credit.

    • Did anyone see this? It was really good and far more important to the future of the MCU than people expected. The fact is its not a Thunderbolts film but stealth
