ALL: They Almost Became

Exactly, and how long was she around anyway?

Wow, never heard that about Michael and I do not know WHERE my head has been all these years but I have never even thought about Charlie (let alone old ass Lawford) being her son. His years with Juli, even having watched his scenes with Kelsey and Tad, my mind just didn't make that connection. Maybe the Brent thing and how he called Phoebe Grandmother just threw me off. What always gets played up is the Erica dating three generations thing moreso than her dating the son of her former rival.

I think her Kelsey return was about 2-3 weeks. I'm not sure. I don't want to check at SOC since someone said they had a virus.

I don't think Tara was there for the Charlie/Cecily wedding (although I might be wrong) but she did have one scene with Charlie, and it was jarring.

As much as I liked Lee Meriwether's run as Ruth, the family still lost something without Mary Fickett. I would have brought Tara in more frequently as an adjunct to this, perhaps played up some tension between them, since Ruth had not raised Tara and Tara might have felt she was mishandling Kelsey. Tara could have thrown Tad and his heavy baggage in Ruth's face, as well as Joey basically leaving the family for years and not doing a lot. Ruth would have said Tara had no business talking about the proper way to raise a child. Joe would have looked pained and done some strange squinty smiles.

There was a real wasted opportunity in Kelsey's Martin ties. She was mostly involved in stories with other people and her family interaction was limited to Ruth hectoring her.

Yeah, from moment one, LM Ruth had more of an edge (which got softened). I still have her first scene on tape somewhere (*The role of Ruth Martin will now be played by Lee Meriwether*) and she is kinda cold, *almost* bitchy.

She was definitely very tough - I think there was something of a warmth but also a hard edge. Mary Fickett was also strong but it seems like a quieter, velvet glove strength.

I remember a fan comment that said you could finally believe Joe and Ruth actually had sex. I didn't want to think about that.

What was the reaction to Nancy Frangione's Tara? It's hard for me to think of her as a sweet, motherly heroine when she was so absolutely perfect as selfish, amoral Cecile on AW.

Love the green-screen driving scenes -- reminds me of Saturday Night Live's Toonces the Driving Cat skits.

Nice to see Robin Strasser there. The few times I tuned in to AMC to see her, I thought the character was a dud. But she looks good!

Robin would agree with you about her AMC character.

I don't know if there was any strong reaction to Nancy. I think by that time people may have been worn out with Tara. I guess it was her choice to leave? I know Mary Lynn Blanks replaced her.

    • I do not think I have ever agreed with Vee. Normally I do not read him, Ignore ya know. For some unknown reason I clicked to read. And I agree 1000%. Now, this is so odd that I need to go away for a bit.
    • Justine had a lot of hooey in it, but she was an actual woman, not a guy in drag. She was a doppelganger of Rachel, French, having had a past history with Carl, etc. Two of the more outrageous parts-Justine bricking alive Vicky into a wall & Justine grinding the gears driving a big rig.
    • Hehe, twi/x actually x, formerly Twitter. Typically I find 2 sources for "crazy fan rumors" - the wrong parts of FB and x. Oy.
    • Not to hijack the thread, but was that character Justine? I just found this interview online with Logan and see what you're talking about - wow!   http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/chat85.html

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.
