June 19, 201015 yr Member It's cute. I think Ent Weekly was right when they said it really is a throwback to the 80s style sitcoms--not necesarily a bad thing.
June 19, 201015 yr Member The pilot is on TV Land's website for those who missed it. http://www.tvland.com/shows/hot-in-cleveland/full-episodes/pilot
June 19, 201015 yr Member The true test is if people come back next week. We shall see. I think they will. Betty White is a pop culture phenomenon right now. I think her fans will continue to show up.
June 20, 201015 yr Member I see Michael Lembeck of One Day At Time fame directed the first eppy. A reunion for him and Valerie. Bo Duke on the show too?...hmmmmm So far 8 minutes into it and I am not liking the show. Edited June 20, 201015 yr by Ruxton Hills
June 20, 201015 yr Member The best part of the show was Betty White. Valerie is ok but the other girls are just awful. Edited June 20, 201015 yr by Ruxton Hills
June 20, 201015 yr Member Valerie Bertinelli is just not a lead actress and not strong enough to be the adult center of a sitcom, IMO. At least she was cute on One Day At A Time. I found this show awful, I knew it was never going to be something amazing, but it's nothing but weak one liners that try too hard and another generic show that hides behind female friendships. It's all just so flat. And as I mentioned in my status update the other day, Wendie Malick is such a poor man's Christine Baranski. Edited June 20, 201015 yr by Y&RWorldTurner
June 20, 201015 yr Member Valerie Bertinelli is just a horrendous actress! I had no idea! Wow, she's so bad compared to the other girls.
June 20, 201015 yr Member That's great. I always liked Michael Lembeck on One Day at a Time. I thought he was very cute.
June 22, 201015 yr Member I saw this show last night, it had some good jokes here and there and is overall an average show. It's entertaining enough... I will keep watching. Betty White and Jane Leeves are the funniest to me. Edited June 22, 201015 yr by Eric83
June 22, 201015 yr Member I saw this show last night, it had some good jokes here and there and is overall an average show. It's entertaining enough... I will keep watching. Betty White and Jane Leeves are the funniest to me. As Y&RWortdTurner pointed out there was too many one liners. The only good jokes were from Betty White. She had the best lines on the show. Valerie needs better/stronger co-stars to help her out. She can't carry this show. Right now Betty White is carrying this show. Edited June 22, 201015 yr by Ruxton Hills
June 22, 201015 yr Member I might check this out, I do love Betty White Edited June 22, 201015 yr by Zendall Fan
June 23, 201015 yr Member It's always tough to judge a sitcom by its' pilot, b/c 1) the pilot has to do a lot more than just "be funny"; and 2) b/c pilots are usually written and shot before the show-runner has had an opportunity to hire a full-time writing staff, there isn't the benefit of having other writers tweak the script. Having said that, I think I'll wait a few more weeks before I pass final judgment on this one. Already, though, I think Suzanne Martin would be wise to take a cue from Bob Newhart's shows and make Valerie Bertinelli the straight man (er, woman) and sort-of audience advocate, allowing her character to react to the others' antics the way we would since, IMO, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and Betty White are the real stunners here.
