I DVRed it today and I am watching it now. It is a pretty decent day. A little more character driven. Enjoying Blair and that HOT lawyer and Viki/Nat, Dorian/Charlie.

And I think OLTL is now the best looking soap on the air. It has alot of color (and not pink like Days) and impeccable lighting which make these extremely small sets look good. As much as I love Roscoe and especially the character of Allison, the show needs to stop with the cartoonish writing of its villians. For once I would like to be scared of a villian, like Alex when she was fierce, and the queen of the villian/villianess- Kimberlin Brown.

As much as the family of enablers/sociopaths turns my stomach, I think dramatically speaking, they pack more of a punch than anything Jason has had in many years. I don't know if they will keep that going, since Michael has been Disney-fied, Kristina was trashed, and Dante's most interesting storylines seem to be over, but if they make an effort, they can still get some good soapy drama out of that group, especially if they don't try to deify Sonny.

I guess the big question is what else is waiting in the wings. Most of the other stories (Robin/Patrick/Lisa, Lucky/Liz/Nik, Maxie still going around like a chicken with her head cut off, Skye/Luke/Tracy, Ethan/Maya) aren't good.

Was sleepy but can't believe I forgot AMC! Shocked at Days fall and GH rise but am glad people are reacting to the better writing at GH. For a while it felt as if the ratings were static and good production work never paid off. Y&R had a great week considering it was [!@#$%^&*]! Such a good week for Y&R plus Julianne Moore should have boosted ATWT but there was no promo and the blast from the past vet fest felt disjointed and out of place. I've gotta say that World Turns is doing well for a cancelled show and has been holding steady for months. The fact that a dead show is within .2 points of the entire ABC lineup is freaky. This is especially true considering how poor ATWT writing is plus the fact that the show gets no promo or hype. I've noticed sites like Suds Report barely mention the show anymore. I'm guessing the soso ratings are due to a loyal fan base combined with ATWT following the number one and two programs on the east coast.

To sum things up: ABC Daytime is in some serious trouble. This will only get worse when Jean P. makes her way to LLanview.

You're exactly right about ATWT - the soap that incredibly bad writing killed. So sad really. Indeed, ABC, watch out, don't let the pen of Jean P. kill OLTL. She has absolutely no ability to write anything that feels genuine or realistic - she relies on the classic soap creative cop out of making beloved characters 'crazy' for years on end as opposed to doing the hard work of writing engaging dialogue. Also watch out for people time-traveling - being in one city in one scene, and then on the other side of the country in the ext with no explanation how they got there. Not sure if she was responsible for another thing that killed ATWT, which is landing incredible acting talent only to give them horrible writing and then ship them off 6 months to the day - not giving viewers any reason to emotionally invest in them. The list is long for this with ATWT. Recast fever, bad writing, unrealistic story lines, giving away tomorrow's episode in the preview (they don't give hints, they give away what is going to happen - so why watch!) - all clear examples of a complete lack of talent from the lead writer.

All soaps are in trouble. At the end of the day, which ever show is no longer profitable will get cancelled. Jean P. has written on OLTL before; I don't think she'll do much damage.

    • Really an excellent point. I'm worried about Derek but he's not working. The Duprees being too good somehow ... well, if they say it instead of be it, okay yes, I would worry but as long as they keep on being good, geeze, that's something to celebrate, not worry!!!  Party on?!

    • I agree. For now. I am sure in a year's time...a new family (or old) will start to appear on the show.
    • There's some irony in Philip being forgiven, because it forces everyone to admit that Victor was wrong to change his will.  Everyone, eventually including Xander, (I presume), seems to think it was wrong for Victor to divide his estate in Xander's favor.  I appreciated Stephanie forgiving Philip, because she's got no skin in that game.  But, Belle's line about Philip missing Xander because he misses Bo did not ring true.  I think Philip would be sad if Bo dies, but I think he's more concerned currently about Xander. I am enjoying this EJ mystery so much that I am hereby taking a vow not to read spoilers.  I am also vowing — for the last time — to stop harping on this, but: the concept of a “sepsis treatment” remains absurd. Hospitals prevent sepsis through vigilant infection control; once sepsis sets in, it causes multiple organ failures. Treatment involves supporting each failing organ individually. The notion that a single medication could magically reverse organ failure is medically laughable. However, I like the contrast of Kim going through cancer, which is incurable in their universe.  Kayla's comment on the health of both of her siblings was both heartbreaking and an interesting twist.  MBE is also totally underrated.  She is carrying the weight of so many stories.   And, I like the use of Kayla as an audience surrogate.  She's arguably the most "real" person in Salem. Kayla isn't psychic, she wasn't SORASed, she's not a billionaire, and she doesn't have a bionic eye.  So, I enjoy that we get her perspective of the nuttiness that surrounds her. However, I don't get what gives her the authority to turn down EJ's offer.  I understand that they need a hospital figurehead to show us scenes of the competition to buy the hospital.  But, unless the entire administration has been let go, the Chief of Staff wouldn't make those choices.
    • But why worry about something that might not happen? Right now, most things revolve around the Duprees. We have no idea if or how long that will continue. For now, it's working.
    • The Duprees not having any staff is a bugbear for me. They've included the background staff at the Country Club but no one at the Dupree home. Even just an extra bringing in a tray of food/drinks or responding to a request from Anita would suffice.
    • Shut up, Dante and Lois.  I actually don't mind this particular soap trope, but in the context of this storyline, it just feels forced and unnecessary. If anything, this Dante/Gio tension needed to begin months ago. Plus, this storyline, in general, isn't doing Lois any favors either.  Emma comforting Gio was really sweet though. It's definitely time for the two of them to have their first kiss. And, Joss playing Secret Agent Barbie will just never work.
    • Note to makeup - Smitty’s eyebrows, bad clamshell look.
