Is Crystal Chappell trying too hard to play up to the lesbian audience?

The problem is that when the "(gay) soap media" back certain actors and actresses because they're "friendly" to the gay cause, it diminishes their credibility when they're "attacking" other shows or actors and actresses. Case in point. Nelson Branco seems obsessed with dissing the actress who plays Steffy on B&B. He takes every opportunity to call her a "hair model", and treats her as if she's the worst actress to ever grace daytime TV. Meanwhile, he fawns over the actress who plays Starr on OLTL, who IMHO is a horrible actress. I just think these guys should be fair, or why even have soap columns?

No, but some believed she would've made an excellent floatation device before she had her implants removed.

Thank God I'm not the only who is not impressed with Chappell's work on DAYS. Like some of you, I've never seen Crystal on Days of Our Lives before, so I was looking forward to seeing some great work because I saw how good she was on Guiding Light. I cannot stop staring at that botox forehead of hers. Don't get me started on those eyes. She's looking like a crack whore these days.

I have nothing but love for Crystal Chappell, but I just had to post my real opinions. I admired her excellent work on GL, but she's a hot mess on DAYS.

Carly's been gone for 17 years. I dont get the arguments that she's not the same woman she left. People DO change, especially since its been almost 2 decades since she's been seen. I think her being different is pretty realistic. Im not watching but that seems about right and its more of a writing thing than Crystal Chappell

1. This topic's ridiculous title should be changed to the Crystal Chappell bash thread.

2. I do like Chappell's current portrayal of Carly on Days. I don't why people were expecting Carly to come back as an Olivia clone. Carly was always understated and weepy to begin with, and after her all the abuse she's suffered and killing her husband, I find the low-keyness refreshing to over the top hysterics.

I think that the writers are wasting Crystal in a sloppily written pathetic-victim role, but as a fan of natural, believable acting I have no complaints about her portrayal of Carly.

As for her use of botox, she's a rank amateur compared to Lauren Koslow.

Lauren Koslow only uses Botox right between her eyebrows. Her forehead moves and when she smiles she has crows feet. She also uses fillers, but those are very artfully done.

Not to change the point of the thread, but I never understand when people criticize Lauren Koslow's looks. The woman is 57. Her face is not super tight, she certainly hasn't had a facelift. I'm in that business and I can tell ya, that face has not had surgery on it.

First off, the party CC and Nadia attended was a show that the artist Jen Foster was having in LA. Jen Foster wrote and performed the song Venice Beach for CC's web series Venice. So it is only natural that she and some of Team Venice would attend to show their support. Second, we don't know in what context this kiss was made and it was Brandon Beemer, Nadia's own boyfriend who took the photo. Now I wouldn't mind Brandon popping up on Venice next season maybe as a gay model that Ani has to shoot.

Crystal is a rare celebrity who reaches out to her fans just about on a daily basis. Who else can you say that about? She is a very busy person with Days/Venice, personal appearances, etc and she is a mom and wife. She is not making any money off of Venice and has even paid money out of her own pocket, she has said as much in interviews. She wanted to do Venice for the fans that were robbed with the Otalia story when GL was canceled. She wanted to give a voice to these fans who shared their stories with her, some of which were quite heart breaking (again, she has stated this numerous times in interviews).

I'm glad to see her back on Days, though the writing for her current storyline is very lacking in my opinion. I think because she played Olivia for 10 years its hard for folks to not expect Olivia when she graces our TV screens. I'm hoping once the storyline moves into her connecting with her daughter that it will improve. I also support CC with Venice. I am a paying subscriber and will continue to do so. They've got one season under their belt and can now improve to make season 2 and any others to follow that much better.

Please, don't fault CC for trying to give her fans what they want.

    • Creatively, he probably should have stayed with The Doctors, where he stood out as an antihero lead. Not sure what happened with GH. He didn't have the same impact. Was it bad writing, not clicking with co-stars? Didn't they gave him a boat load of money to join GH in 1976? Was Mark Dante just a toned-down version of Nick Bellini? Were they basically the same character?
    • All I can think of is if a lot of big names were leaving around that time she wanted him back as a stopgap, although I have never seen any real evidence that he was popular with GH viewers.
    • I loved watching Shanice hand Leslie her ass and finally shutting her up. It was so good. I also love Martin & Smitty's family.  Anita has to have some sort of plan giving Leslie the tickets to mail for Winterfest. She has to be setting her up for a fall. It's pretty obvious to me Vernon is not cheating with Sharon. I think Sharon is helping him with his terrible singing voice for Winterfest. I still believe Bill & Dani are endgame but I love Dani & Andre too. I am definitely enjoying this story. And making Hayley a black widow is a nice twist.
    • Sorry for the spam. Wasn't sure where to put this, it's from Tony Geary's husband's IG. Tony watching Genie and Maurice on Mo's show.
    • This show is really trundling along BTW. When is someone going to show up to slit Beastmaster's throat or crack the whip on metrosexual Sidwell? (BTW, openly presenting this cheery bon vivant as casually bisexual would at least be something vaguely diverting.) At least kill Brennan by year's end. I'm bored.
    • She told Vanessa to "DOUBLE her offer" on the Jarvis house.  The Jarvis family accepted the doubled price.  Assuming the house has an appraised value of $2,000,000, she's theoretically paid the Jarvis family $4,000,000 for the house.  The bank would loan Leslie 80% of the appraised value ($1,600,000), and Leslie had to pay the balance with cash at closing --- $2,200,000.  She only had ONE million.  Where the hell did she get the rest?!  And now she's got contractors working on the house all day & half the night.  Who's paying THEM?  I keep thinking all this will crash around her.  Either that or the writers have absolutely no idea the limits of a million dollars.  Sounds like a "lot of money", but it obviously ain't when we look at Leslie's spending since she got that million dollar check in August.

    • Vernon is an idiot. Why would he have Sharon in the same hotel that Leslie is staying at?
    • Yes, that out of the blue return was odd. Maybe GG found a forgotten clause in the contract he signed when he was wooed to ABC and they were forced to take him back! Like George Reinholt he talked about the contract that promised him primetime roles. But it was loaded in the networks favor. I think it was Gloria Loring that re-signed at Days on the promise of primetime opportunities, but that was all it was- she was put up for guest spots and TV movies but not necessarily guaranteed that she get the role.
    • I still am baffled by why Monty brought back stunt hire Gerald Gordon in the early '80s out of nowhere for like a year. I haven't found anyone who can come up with a thing he did in that second stint of note.
