OLTL: Discussion for the week November 9

ITA, Vee. It makes no sense at all that McBain would figure it out; must have been a command from Frons

Am I the only one who found the reveal of Rex's father to be anti-climactic? after all these years, Rex receives an envelope from a character who's appeared in maybe 5 episodes in the last 8 years... in Michigan! How much more dramatic would it have been to send Corinne to Llanview and have her give Rex the envelope in front of Roxy, who would have fought like hell to stop Rex from opening it ... lame.

Loved the greenhouse scenes today... not sure why it had to be in Napa instead of Llanview.

Can't wait to see Viki and Mitch together in a scene

I loved today's show. Friday and today's show were amazing. I love the end of the week cliffhangers. Mitch's reintroduction works for me in every way except I don't believe he slept with Roxy and prodced Rex. Rex. Oh Rex. What have they done to you?

I could get into Schuyler and Gigi but she was such a lousy drunkard.

I loved everything about Kyle and Fish today. I like them taking the time to facillitate a relationship between Layla and Kyle. It showed off Fish and Kyle's different personalities. This Carlota is different than the last one. I like her.

Nash's rotting corpse was creepy. But Mitch's intro was great.

Hmmm...a lot of OLTL stuff tonight. Just posted the Quick Peeks and Teasers (late thanks to abc.com, lol) and new OLTL & ABC Daytime promos, getting ready to work on a casting/sneak peek article, and Angela is putting together an article about which repeat episodes of AMC, OLTL, and GH that we will be seeing on Thanksgiving. wink.gif

Fantastic episode today!!! The Jessica scenes with the skeletor were so creepy.....and then the banging on the door and Natalie falling out....and at the same time Jared's yelling to let him in. Great stuff! The ending was perfect! So glad to see Mitch again - he's one of my favorite OLTL characters. Heed the Messenger! :)

OLTL does gothic very well - the sets, lighting and background music really add to the darkness.

Did John figure out Mitch was behind it or was he just telling the Rex's backstory? I'll have to go rewatch that scene.

And that's why I try to avoid promos! I figured Mitch was behind everything but I didn't want to see any scenes leading up to the reveal, or of course the reveal itself.

If it's gonna go the way I think it goes...umm....keep watching. ;)

Excellent show today. Although I had seen the November promo and knew Mitch was returning the reveal was still creepy and electrifying for me. The entire set up was spot on. I loved that they put the location of each character on the bottom of the screen. It reminded me of the good old days of soaps for some reason that I cannot explain. I also hope the show writes some Clint/Mitch stuff this time around. Clint was off canvas when the whole Jess/Nat stuff played out the first time and I think JVD and RB could really play well off each other.

Sandra Santiago really impressed me today as Carlotta. Her first few times on I found her very stiff and almost awkward but today she really sold it for me. I hope to see her on screen more because I know she is a terrific actress. I also thought she could be a great Dorian recast if needed.

The Gigi/Schuy stuff I thought was well written but as everyone else has posted, poorly acted by FF. I did laugh when she said Aunt Corrine 2 or 3 times. I don't know if she messed up the line or if she ad-libed but even Scott Clifton let out a little laugh.

1986? I was 4 years old. :) But I do remember hearing it all the time when he came back in the early 2000's. I just love watching Mitch and all his evil deeds. Of course Roscoe's deep/scary voice and hypnotic eyes helps too.

Yup, I agree with on Mitch, Carlo and Tina.

I like Thom's voice too. So both of OLTL's supervillains have deep creepy voices.

LOL I guess you are older than me.

That would've been cool. I think Passions bought a Dark Shadows background music piece or it was very close it because people said the piece was very Dark Shadows-ish.

I finally watched the full episode.

The rotting corpse worked better than I would have thought. It was like something out of the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books.

Roscoe Born is one of those actors who still manages to look attractive even as he ages. Like Dennis Hopper.

My heart broke a little bit when Jared and Natalie were looking at each other and Jared's bloody hand was on the window :( You can't fake chemistry like that, as some other couples show.

    • I found it to be a rather odd way to deal with a character departing for parts unknown.
    • Today reminded me as to why I’m a little disappointed in the name that the new Pope chose

Luckily, EJ and Johnny, and pretty much every other character saved today’s episode.  I didn’t expect Javi to be the one to save Sarah though, and I don’t mind it at all, because if it means that Javi is finally going to get his own identity/character, away from his douchy bf, I’m all for it. Javi’s scenes would’ve been a lot better had it not been for him. EJ and Johnny were the best part of today. Their conversation hit a lot of important beats and I’m so looking forward to seeing them play out. And now that EJ knows that Johnny is going to work for Xander, that opens up another dynamic to their storyline and to the Kiriakis family storylines as well. Tying them all together could be really good. There are so many story possibilities that can come out of this. And I thought Carson Boatman did a pretty good job again too.  I also liked that Johnny was there to comfort Chanel after everything that happened with Sarah. They’re so good together. But I do have mixed feelings about Chanel possibly forgiving Johnny so quickly. Hopefully, the question that she asked him at the end of today leads to more conflict for the two of them.  And yeah, still no changes in Alex’s character lol
    • Awesome, thanks so much for taking the time to grab this episode. I had a quick review of your rip because I was curious why it was 700MB and 30 minutes. The first 10 minutes of the episode is 3169 (opening credits at 5 minutes and again at 15 minutes). I thought we had the full HD version of ep.3170 on the YouTube channel, but it appears they added the wrong episode but labelled it 3170.
    • I guess, according to Mike Manning in the Michael Fairman chat, he was almost Derek

    • I imagine Brad will blow through all the money in a year and come crawling back, just as Portia warned him not to.

    • That's a name I haven't heard in a minute. Thanks!
    • Well, since I'm still up unexpected past my growing-into-it bedtime. lol.   I finally got to rewatch Monday's. I even rewatched Friday's to take it all in. Now that we got the reveal and hit the climax of the SilkPress Sheila storyline, now we get to watch the aftermath and/or turns that come with its climax. So far, so good. Friday left us with three cliffhangers. And what I found surprising was how I felt about them over a rewatch.    I know some of you all felt a way about the dialogue during Kat vs Eva. I remember liking it more the first time around and it was nice for them to have these scenes to establish more of a frenemy vibe for them going forward. That still held up. But I found myself agreeing with you all about that dialogue. lol. Still, it was nice to have both of their POVs.   Second up was Silk Press Sheila vs the Duprees. And I was happy to get a brief spat with Dani in there. But the rest standouts for me was Anita and Martin. Haters can hate and given the tail end of the episode, I will agree to a fault, but Brandon has impressed and he was on fire on Monday and had great subtle work on Friday. And that subtle work made it all the better. Like I believe I said when I was watching...BC has a much better grip on his character and seems to be realizing what his tics are so has started to be able to know when to turn it up and when to dial it down. And for the most part (emphasis on most), he got that. Meanwhile, TT was giving fierceness, and I was here for every minute of it. Her reading SilkPress. Her being quip about it. Her 'BE STILL.' Ooooo she had a chokehold on me as Anita gave what I was expecting her to SilkPress. WORTH THE WAIT. I also loved Vernon's CHOOSE SILENCE. I wonder though if SilkPress will figure out Martin's condition from her observing Anita and Vernon with him.   And speaking of worth it...Oooo YES Nicole vs Ted was worth totally worth it. Oooooo I knew DD would nail it, and it was all so well done. The fight between the part of Nicole who is a therapist vs Nicole as a woman who wants to express how she feels. And being so angry. And how there would be moments when it would shoot out of her. And how she would restrain herself. But how she felt she should not be restrain. Just the levels of processing and layers. And DD played it all so well. I do wish Maurice gave just a little bit more, but overall, I thought he did a good job even if it was just Ted coming across as a deadbeat and not at all redeemable. And Kat being there for her mother was so beautiful.   Minority, but I love the montage though yes, it did run a little long. Given how the Duprees like to bond (and also as I mentioned from my own very recent family experiences), it did not seem out of place to me.     That said...let's see how the aftermath worked in today's episode. Overall. Cuz RC can be hit or miss.
