GH: James Franco Joins The Cast

It is too bad that Rick Hearst is not still on GH. He is the only actor who could have shone in a scene with Franco. Of course, Hearst would have probably never gotten a scene with Franco

Rick Hearst?!?

He wasn't able to shine with anyone on GH even with a megawatt spotlight blinding him at full blast. He might be a decent actor (well he had two good scenes on Gh during the panic room story back in ancient times) but the guy has absolutely no charisma or screen presence. He is the living embodiment of anti-entertainment. Oh my god, thinking now to that year of Claudia and Ric and their emmy winning arsenal of acting skills boring the audience with endless discussions in Sonny's living room about I am not even sure what...it was a nightmare. He was a mightmare! She was a nightmare! They literally created the most boring scenes seen on GH in many a year.

Yikes, that was harsh!

You need some Ice Princess Tapes to cope with GH moving out of the 1980's?

Dude, I have been a regular watcher of GH for over 25 years and that includes the 1980s obviously. No need to be so dismissive of someone because they may have said something less than flattering about a soap idol of your or whatever. I see opinions here all the time I think are from mars, I don't make it personal.

Sarah Brown and Rick Hearst are not my idols.

And I never made anything personal. I was merely voicing an observation. I think you're being extremely sensitive.

But really, does ANY soap have diversity? Well, there's AMC. But look at Y&R! Lily White. ATWT? If you don't look like Marie Wilson or Noelle Beck, there's no story for you.

For whatever reason he decided to do this(whether it be school, film research, wanting a new, weird experience, or supporting a coke habit), I think James Franco just picked a show that was iconic and had pop culture resonance. I can't blame him for that. It's not like anyone would have watched him in Oakdale.

AMC your joking right? Yes they have few black characters but that it's the rest of the show is white as sheet and straight as an arrow.

According to TV Guide an ABC publicist says that James wanted to test his chops on a grueling daytime drama. He loves to explore the different types of acting that is available and had never done soaps and was interested in the amount of work soap actors do.

His first airdate is November 20th

He should have done Broadway or theater

He should have done Broadway or theater

he has.

he has done big budget films, indies, shorts, studio films, newbie directors and seasoned vets, college films, various types of theater, weekly tv...

he wanted to try soaps, so he is. it is the only genre where actors work at that pace and have that much to do.

I read on Serial Drama that James Franco says he's becoming addicted to GH (how diplomatic!) and that Judd Apatow is a soap fan. He must be, if his films are any indication -- they're also all about unlikeable, straight, white men/misogny/near-invisible minorities.

It isn't like Franco can admit that he made a terrible mistake choosing to act on crappy GH.

Usually, soap operas provide the gateway to bigger gigs. One could go on and on about the big-time names that popped up in the overly dramatic worlds of the soaps. Brad Pitt was in Another World; Kevin Bacon drank a lot on Guiding Light; Leonardo DiCaprio spent time on Santa Barbara; and Meg Ryan dealt with life As the World Turns. General Hospital alone let loose Demi Moore, Rick Springfield, John Stamos, Jack Wagner, and Mark Hamill. And now the famous hospital in Port Charles is attracting Hollywood talent.

Collective jaws dropped yesterday as word hit that James Franco would be picking up a guest spot on the popular ABC soap General Hospital. We're not talking a 1-off appearance. SoapNet reports that he'll start on November 20 and be there for a number of weeks, making life difficult for Jason Morgan. But that's not the kicker. They claim Franco was the one who came up with the idea. (Although that could just be misinterpreting a quote expressing the surprise that someone of his "caliber would choose to spend some of his valuable time" on the soap.)

None of this makes sense. There's been a lot of chatter about the struggles of soap operas these days, so it's not exactly an irresistible sort of gig. While the economy is bad, Franco has been busy with a lot of projects, so he can't be strapped for cash. So what makes a popular Hollywood actor decide to (maybe) approach a soap opera and sign on for a pretty long stint? There has been mention of Franco having the same manager as Steve Burton (Jason Morgan), but that's a pretty weak reason.

Are we witnessing a new, and baffling, trend?

Oh for goodness sake! This isn't "a new and baffling, trend." It isn't a trend at all. (One guy isn't a trend.) Franco's bored and feels like switching it up. If I had any doubt about that, his rather strange cameo on SNL made that clear. I think its time to stop being shocked and just roll with it.

I expected that! Which is why I posted!:lol::lol:
