Hahaha - she really does, I've seen it twice now - Dinah and Beth. I think she may have slapped Alan years ago too, early into my watch.

Basically yes... it seems as though Holly wanted to target Vanessa for not stopping WSPR about her destroying her house and pretending it was the Stalker. That and then yeah, not spending enough time with Maureen/working too much haha.

What I wonder is if any other show had recently done a character going off their rocker story. Nevermind, just looked it up, they were on Loving at the end, so that chick going nuts and killing everyone. It does feel like a story grafted on to GL.

I like Lezlie Dalton as Elizabeth, but I can see how she can grate on other people's nerves. She has a listless quality about her like she is channeling Katharine Hepburn with her breathless line deliveries and acting ticks.

That's a great thing about being a soap viewer. We all have our favorites characters and actors that makes interesting and diverse conversations.

Lezlie never bothered me, but Elizabeth was a pivotal character in a major storyline that went on for years. I thought getting rid of the character was insane. Recast the role if you don't like the actress.

But I think the actual problem was Marland didn't like the Phillip baby switch story to begin with, which is why it never got resolved until they cast Grant and Long came in. By then, Jackie was dead, Hope was on her way off the canvas, and Phillip had virtually no relationship with Elizabeth anymore. So many beats of that story that never got played.

Janet Grey has the same kind of really quiet character, and there is something so lovable about her. Maybe it was the "kid sister" kind of chemistry that she had with Lenore that just sold it, I don't know.

"Listless" is a good word. Maybe it has something to do with being in scenes opposite Cindy Pickett, who is just so energized.

Oh, so it wasn't just Marland who didn't like her. 😆

Unlike with Alan, where they could easily reverse the "Marland Redemption Leading to Male Neutering Syndrome," they couldn't do that with Ross for one simple reason: he was the ONLY regular attorney character on the show for years. So he had to take Mike's place in the role of righteous upholder of the law.

It's another one of those cases where you wonder why no one stepped back and said, hey, we could use at least one more main character on this show who's an attorney. Something like that also happened on Y&R, where after Lauralee Bell went into semi-retirement Michael Baldwin was the only attorney--so he went back and forth from defense, to corporate, to D.A. because there was literally no one else to take those roles. (He became D.A. even though he was a convicted felon--and I'm mad about truth serums that work when they spill on you, LOL).

I’m up to where they had Sam go to law school so it seemed like that was briefly the plan.

That would have been a great outcome--core family member joining her uncle in his practice. Or maybe becoming a prosecutor and going up against him in court. Yet another squandered opportunity for some really interesting drama.

Grasping at straws here, but India was married to Phillip- so that's kinda a connection- was India involved with faking Phillip's death in 1990? Also, Ross was in the Spaulding orbit shared by India and India adopted Dinah's BFF from the carnival- Dorrie.

India ran into Phillip when he faked his death in '90. It mimicked their first meeting, when he gave her a ride in the rain. And yeah, there was a point soon after he found out Dinah was his daughter where he and India were trying to maintain the girls' connection. She (has something to do) and ships Dorrie over to him for a sleepover. He finds it stressful..

***SQQUEEEE****some 1983 episodes have been loaded. Vanessa's PI's name was Bart Nielsen! I've never known his name before!

Ross was DA at that time and Sam is talking about being a public defender-guessing they were setting up the prosecutor/defense attorney family opponents.

It’s funny but I actually had no idea Sam existed because I didn’t start watching until 1995 in its original run. As a random starting point to pick up the early 90s I chose Rick Hearst’s debut as AM and half the episode was a montage of Dylan/Sam making out on the beach and I had no clue who she was because there was only music and no dialogue.

It was a wild time to pick up-in short order Roger rescues AM from kidnappers/Reva drives off the bridge/Sam’s paralyzed from jumping out of the car.

This episode just uploaded is NOT from March 1979--from what characters are saying in the episode, it must be either the very end of August or September 1979. It happens AFTER Amanda and Ben sleep together in Chicago and also Rita and Evie are talking about Christina going back to school in a couple of weeks.

I have not seen this one uploaded before by anyone.

Two things about it:

It has to take place just before Lucille lets Brandon die, as he's shown here begging her to come see him in the nursing home. (I will have puppies if they post that episode).

From the things Ross is saying in the episode, I get the feeling he KNOWS somehow Amanda is in Brandon's will. I THINK I remember that being the case, but, you know, almost 50 years, it's hard to be sure. So if you like sneaky Ross, watch this.

@alwaysAMC Chris Bernau's Alan, Peter Simon's Ed and India from 1986- shortly after Bernau and Simon both returned to the show.

1986

That scene between Ed and Alan is really interesting. The only reason to bring up Rita is because they were considering bringing her back at this point. I think there were also some plans to bring back Hope at the time. But it never happened, probably because there were multiple writer changes during 1986.

SQQQUUUUEEEEEE....I LOVE devious Ross!!!! The last ten minutes or so have to be from 1980.

And what is more awkward? Guys answering doors with only towels wrapped around their hips, or in a full bathrobe, and then sitting next to someone on a couch? I thought it was the first, but the second is hella nasty.
