It's really on JFP and the writers for giving her such a fantastic, heartbreaking exit. I've only ever seen Mauren's last 5 or so episodes and she's someone I want to see more of, a journey I want to follow to see how she comes out on the other side. But instead she's just dead.

I never found Maureen boring. As a kid, I was drawn to her character, and I remember liking her friendships with Vanessa and Roger. I was devastated when she was killed off. I was young and I didn't know why they would do such a stupid thing. I stopped watching GL for years until the Annie years, but I never felt the same about the show.

Yes The Children's hour idea with Holly & Olivia was claire Labine's idea

As for the Tim Werner recasts

Did Bacon quit? He came to GL and finishing filming Friday The 13th

After Chris Marcantel left GL, he did AW for 9 months and then LOVING from 1983-85 & 1993-95. I think he was underrated and should have done more soaps. Did GL fire him?

Was Nigel Reed that disliked at GL? I dont think his Wally McFadden was that liked at AMC either

Thanks for the rundown. Giancarlo Esposito played Clay, right? The lack of black cast on GL in the '80s, compared to what ATWT and AW were attempting, is striking (even though they were far from perfect). The most viewers got was IQ, or whatever his name was, who was mostly there to support Lujack and Beth. I don't think I've heard much about Matt.

JFP, I believe, once tried to take credit for why people were upset over Maureen's death, saying that they had built her up in the last six months and trying to treat it as an, "oops, lol" type situation. I had been a fan of Maureen from the time I started watching, pre-JFP. Ellen Parker always brought a lot to the part, even in lean times, and successfully replaced a well-liked actress. She made Maureen mean something to viewers. Not Phelps. The failure of many of JFP's new characters makes that very clear.

    • Just caught up and these episodes were absolutely amazing! Ambyr Michelle was soooooooooo good, and I felt so bad for Eva, I actually teared up. I love that Andre was nice to her, that was my favorite Andre moment of the series thus far.

I don't need to warn you that if you like this & want to keep it download it. Now, isn't she positively amazing?!!! Well, IMO she is. This is only the first episode that I've got her in. I think there will be more.
    • All true, and all an enormous problem on this show. -- The business stories are maddening because none of it makes any sense, none of it has any connection to the real world. As you said, sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers, and job switching is not a storyline. -- The deck chairs are constantly rearranged on the Titanic -- that's what this show is. Summer, Chelsea, Sally, and Chloe have been in design for how long? And we've never seen ANYTHING from them. Carrying around an iPad isn't enough. BOLD is terrible, but at least they show us dresses from Kohls and jewelry from Amazon. -- I know it's baked into the DNA of the show, but I will never enjoy seeing Jabot and Newman treat each other as if no other companies exist in the entire world. A new magical line of cosmetics is not going to bring down a company like Jabot. -- This is a writing problem, not a budget problem. An enormous amount of cash is not needed to write compelling business stories and show real products. This is writer LAZINESS.
    • Right? GOD FORBID Vanessa be allowed to cut her own mother-in-law down to size, when REVA REVA REVA needs a rival to sharpen her claws on. RME I mean, they could have, but Long and Curlee (like most HW) seemed to forget about characters once they left town. If they mentioned Trish five times in the ten years she was gone, I'd be surprised.  Yeah, Alex didn't really do friendship, other than Lillian. And most of the time, Henry.  And somehow, by the time she leaves, Sonni is some friend of Mo's? Mo is just everyone's default "friend". SMH.
    • I really have no problem with Kai as a character or with the actor. The problem is putting together two very nice people -- Kai and Trina. Neither of them has a bad side, neither of them has a devil on the shoulder, neither of them is impulsive. I think that's a problem in a soap relationship. Yeah, I agree. All this freaking out might make sense if Lulu wanted to do a tabloid expose on BLQ's LOVE CHILD. We have no indication that's the case.
    • So Sonni would have somebody to talk to who she wasn't conspiring with (Will or Alan)? Alex kept telling Sonni how important her friends were...when she had virtually no friends. Instead they created loyal servants like Jane and Vera to give Alex people to play off of. They did that with Iris on AW, but Vivien was mostly there for comic relief Alex keeping Marah's paternity a secret was absurd. But I still love the scene between Alex and Alan where he convinces her by reminding her how they protected each other from their abusive father. Chris and Bev ATE that scene. Unfortunately, that took place only a few months before he exited the show...always thought they could have built on that, explored more how being Brandon's children screwed them both up. Maybe even used it as an explanation for the way their relationship could constantly swing from hatred to love. Instead of it being merely dictated by the plot.
    • The first one is Cass Winthrop dressed as Krystle Lake on Another World (not from his original creation of the character to hide from the loan shark Tony the Tuna, but at a romance convention trying to find out what had happened to Felicia who was missing). The second one is also Another World, Jake McKinnon as Doris although I don't recall what his purpose was.
    • I know there was one brief scene in the summer of 1989 where Lillian did mention Calla.. but in relation to her past relationship to Ross and it was to Roger while he was a patient at Cedars.  I think he was trying to pump her for information on Ross.. and for some reason, Calla's name came up.   I could see perhaps Beth mentioning that her mother Lillian was visiting Calla.. but not exactly giving any sort of details as to the going ons in Calla's life off screen.
