Thanks! I thought this must have been early, as Helena is more serious here.

I always have a hard time figuring out when Nola was pregnant during any of this time...most of those clips don't seem to be online.

I've been watching the "Quola" clips with my mother (we're up to the Hollywood Trip), and I must say I have to give the actors a lot of credit for how they deal with strange and at times very inconsistent writing. This is especially prominent with Mrs. Renfield, who went from loving Nola and her baby to seeing them as outsiders and dangerous, to loving them again, and with Gracie, who for a spell (the bugging/Nola as "Mata Hari" storyline) was hardcore anti-Quint to the point where she went on a long "look at your look at your choices!" speech to Nola that made my jaw drop.

It was nice to see a glimpse of Kathleen Cullen's Amanda in the clips. I still wish the show had done so much more with her.

I love the whole "Quint's harem" setup with Rebecca, Nola, and Helena (with Vanessa popping in for blackmail visits). The whole thing is ludicrous, and a good example of how unique GL was, as it was treated so seriously. I think Helena pointed out the insanity of it once or twice. She's such a fun character.

Nola had already had her baby when they were in London. She had her around New Year's Eve of 1981. It was while they were in London that we learned about Quint previously being engaged to Helena and about his rivalry with Silas Crocker. I think Nola was pregnant when they were in Hollywood so that would have been earlier. Agree about the inconsistencies especially regarding Mrs. Renfield. I think Gracie just changed her opinions based on what Nola was telling her.

Thanks. I get so confused. I think it's that a lot of 1981 isn't available for the characters (there are "early months" clips but I think she was still pregnant then).

It's kind of crazy just how many secrets Quint had.

Yes, Nola was still pregnant in the "early months" clips. She started working for Quint around Sept./Oct. 1981 and had the baby in late Dec. so she wasn't pregnant for very long after she met him. I meant to say in my earlier post that Nola was pregnant when they were in San Francisco, not Hollywood.

My friend Geraldine Court (Jennifer) wasn't all that enthusiastic about Jennifer Cooke. It was partly because she'd been close to Kristen Vigard (Morgan #1) and also because she felt that Cooke was a cynical casting decision-a vapid blonde with a good body and limited acting ability. She completely lacked the vulnerability of Vigard.

She was a pretty young girl who was probably fine for catalogue modeling and commercials but was extremely uninteresting as an actress. I realize that GL had to recast Morgan very quickly due to Vigard's issues being a big problem but I think they could have found someone more appropriate for the role.

Cooke was so radically different than Vigard and was a far weaker actress. She was painful to watch at times. That said, her departure from GL in May 1983 seemed awfully abrupt. At one point, it seemed like the writers were moving her into Phillip and Rick's orbit but then she was phased out.

What issues. Vigard seems like a great actress who cant hang onto a role. From the original Annie on Broadway (Replaced by Andrea McArdle), to GL then OLTL (replaced by Julie Ann Johnson)

Vigard had serious "timekeeping issues." She was always late to set according to my friend who played her mother. This may or may not have been drug related.

GL kept her on for the taping of Morgan and Kelly's wedding but after that she was gone. When we saw Morgan on her honeymoon a week later Cooke took over the role in scenes which were shot on location.

Vigard was let go from Annie because, as the director Martin Charnin explained in a NY Times interview, she lacked the toughness and resilience which Charnin felt was needed for the title role. Andrea McArdle was playing another orphan, Pepper, in the pre-Broadway tryout at the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut and Charnin felt that she'd be a better fit for Annie than Vigard.

    • I am interested to see how they handle Leslie/Dana down the road. If she continues in this path, it would be unrealistic to have her around. Like other shows have done this with a 'villian' character and ended up with people looking stupid putting up with someone they detest. Another thought-could they be building up to a murder story? Maybe Les/Dan will be left in a coma and we will have a whodunit with several characters as suspect. It would also be a chance to redeem her I wonder how long the show will go w/o resorting to soap cliche stories-twins,switched at birth, murder mystery, long lost child etc
    • Yeah, Martin really did make me laugh when him and Smitty jumped up to drag Leslie out. I am interested in seeing how this fallout will impact his storyline as well. Especially since he is so protective regarding his family/family's image. I am interested in seeing how he will interact with Eva for the time being, they did have a warmer interaction earlier on once they met. But he seems to have doubts about her possibly being Ted's right now. I wonder how long it might take for him to come around with her. I could see the younger generation warming up to her quicker than the older ones. Though of course I think there will be anger/tension for a while regarding the reveal and her role in it. Perhaps Naomi/Chelsea will ease up on Eva first then eventually Martin/Kat might down the line. I really do love Nicole. I'm glad that DD is playing her. She really is the heart of the family and also agree the show. She is so easy to root for and I'm looking forward to seeing how things work out for her. I am enjoying the development of most of the characters on this show. I enjoy most of them including Bill with his trifling self lol. I do feel that Bill's love for his daughters is genuine and that gives him some depth. A few of the characters I don't care for that much (like Bill, Ashley, Vanessa). I wasn't too big on Andre at first, but I am warming up more to him as the actor is settling into the role. I like most of the characters on this show. Also, I am interested in seeing what happens if Eva indeed goes and lives with the new doctor that was introduced. I could see this adding another layer to her story, maybe she will become more vixen-ish, on what type of relationship they end up having. And/or maybe she will end up becoming more hardened as she deals with being an outcast, especially if she falls out with Leslie as well. I think that AM will do a good job of showcasing the different layers of this character as she deals with the fallout of the affair/paternity reveal.

Got another sad news from the Bahamian community (not a celebrity)  https://www.instagram.com/p/DJMSrYCgyes/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Former Bahamian Senate President J Henry Bostwick, Husband of former 1st Bahamian Female Cabinet Minister Dame Janet Bostwick is dead yesterday on his 86th birthday.    Thanks and for those who've aren't familiar with the talk shows in The Bahamas on this thread here, his talk show named The Freedom March with Dr Rodney Moncur that airs on ILTV and The Beat 103.5 FM Nassau every weekday afternoons. IIRC, he suffered a illness before he died.  Here's the link for his final taping of the show before his death: https://ewnews.com/this-is-powerful-rodney-moncurs-final-sign-off/

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
