Before we get sidetracked into an inevitable "I hate Nelson" discussion, I just want to say for the one-billionth time: I love Eileen.

She had some nice things to say about Chris Engen and Melody Thomas Scott (and I love the idea of the love amid the rivalry between Ashley and Nikki -- two of my fave characters):

TVG: I’m totally digging the fact that Nikki is looking out for Ash. They should always be rivals but it’s important for any feud to show the love along with the hate. You and Melody Thomas Scott have kick-ass chemistry.

ED: I agree! Ashley stood up for Nikki when she was accused of haunting Ash and now Nikki is looking out for me. I love Mel.

TVG: I pray Mel doesn’t quit.

ED: I think she’ll stay with Y&R. You know, I was more shocked about her leaving the show than when I was fired from Y&R a few years back! You can’t air Y&R without Nikki Newman!

All I hear from everyone is how Y&R is the best show on daytime, and how much everyone is addicted to it. That’s all I hear, and yet, we were snubbed. It makes me question the Emmy voting process. It’s a big mystery. It’s not like Y&R is in the process of being turned around, you know? When you consider that Maria had to deal with cleaning up that reliquary mess and everything else, well, it’s unfortunate. Her stories have been very provoking and continue to be. As I talk to you, I’m watching Thom Bierdz [Phillip] tape his scenes where his family learn he’s alive, and wow — I’m crying in my dressing room! Our show is awesome. Y&R isn’t just a daytime show now; it’s great television — period. Our show is really representative of the world today. I’m really proud to be working on Y&R. And listen, you know I’ve been through my own ups and downs on this show, but right now, we’re experiencing a really pivotal creative renaissance. It’s really cool. Overall, the show is hitting a lot of high notes despite us having to do less with more. So yeah, it’s a travesty Maria isn’t being acknowledged. The Daytime Emmys are odd.

HOLY CRAP! MAJOR SPOILER! If this interview was recorded this week or last we should see these scenes sometime in mid-July, right? Wow. I can't wait.

And the rest of what she said is so true, even with the things I hate the show is addictive right now.

Nice interview. I hope she's right about MTS staying. Nikki is integral to the show. I am totally on MTS's side though. I don't believe she should have to take a paycut when they're so much dead wood on the show. ED also pretty much nailed what makes CE's take on Adam unique. It really is too bad TPTB didn't go the Ashley/Adam affair route.

I wonder if she simply means Phillip's family believes he's alive, since this guy does look like him. I'd rather it be the real Phillip, so I hope it's him.

Yes, that is how I read the interview.

    • Except it's kind of accurate? Yellowstone isn't at the risk of ending because ratings are bad - it's at the risk of ending because Kevin Costner is causing trouble with the shooting schedule, only wanting to do a week worths (6 days!!!) of shooting versus the 65 days that was agreed upon. So as of now they're exploring letting Costner go and bringing McConaughey in and labeling it a spin-off (but it's really just a continuation of Yellowstone).   We'll see what happens. My understanding is that it's not yet cancelled but it's likely to be and it'll basically be a Roseanne -> The Conners situation. Also, effectively labeling it a spin-off rather than season 6 or whatever of Yellowstone means that they can get the rights back from Peacock and put it on Paramount+. So the spin-off solves two problems - they get the show to their own streaming service while also getting rid of the expensive diva time-waster Costner.
