Oh I agree with both of you, but even back then Monty and Labine loved taking the bad guys like Luke Spencer, Duke Lavery, etc. who were criminals and mobsters and try to make them the heroes. And often they still held on to that evil side to a certain part.

It was a far cry from the Steve Hardy and Lee Baldwin and Peter Taylor that I grew up with.

Oh, ITA with you, and I hope you didn't think my post was getting "shouty" at yours! I have loved GH for a long time (well, since the mid-80s) and I was just trying to explain (not very cogently) the difference I felt when watching the show "back then" and "now."

I didn't think anything was out of line or shouty about your post.

I thought it was very good and made excellent points.

Just one more thought, I always felt even on RH that Labine was a little obsessed with the mob. I felt RH was actually a lot better before she brought the mob into it.

Do I need to be one? I occasionally watch ATWT, OLTL, AMC and DOOL. I am not a fan of any of them, though, not under their current state.

I have tried watching the show on numerous occasions over the years. Whenever I see Luke, he's lifeless. When Laura came back, I loved her acting, but the character is just dead. I gave up quickly.

I prefer watching crap like Monica's cancer.

As far as someone having to be a GH fan or not to comment here?

Or in any thread for that matter pertaining to that show, I am of the belief that no you don't have to be - even though I have been told in the past many times that my opinions don't matter if I am not watching or enjoying the show but that is beside the point.

But now as far as judging someone's acting or their character on the show, I do put a lot more stock in the opinion of someone that I know is a fan of the show and watches it all the time.

Many of us look in on shows from time to time and we judge actors and characters by what we see in those few times. It is the same as a person who doesn't even watch soaps but happens to look in on them a few times and says how can you watch that crap.

What those people do not see are the day in and day out nuances of that character and the day in and day out performances. That is when you can get the full judgement of a performer.

Many people see clips of an actor and actress and say wow how in the world did that person get an Emmy or why in the world do people say that person is good. Or they say that person is totally over the top. Half the time they do not know the history of the character, what might have made them act that way, is that part of the character to act that way, etc. All that goes into judging a performance.

When we make flash judgements based on a few scenes or a few episodes then we are no better than the Emmy committees who give someone best show based on one stunt or one great episode. Or give an Emmy to someone like Natalia Livingston who is a weak actress for the most part but put together a great Emmy reel.

So no you don't have to be a fan of a show to comment, but to me the opinion is not as valuable as someone who does watch or is a fan.

I agree. I felt like Joe (along with Rae's daughter Kimberly) ruined the show, especially when they recast with Roscoe Born and he took over huge chunks of the show. I hated what became of Siobhan. Endless wailing about "JOEEE!!!"

You may not like him but to say that Luke and laura lost their magic is not true at all

The person who asked you if you a GH fan is legit cause if you've been watching GH since the 90's then you really don't know what Luke and Laura are all about

I've been watching since 1981 and no couple could even compare to them, i'll be glad to see them together even when in their 80's.

And for all of you T. Geary, you are entitled to it but we don't know the whole story here, yes she a good EP but she may have been a bitch also.

    • The actor who plays Martin has been teasing that nobody has guessed Martin's secret. I love that for things like that and the June story we have no idea. I feel like if we didn't have the day ahead feeds Anita's reveal would've been shocking as well. I love that they aren't going the obvious route with these stories.
    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!

    • Thanks. I do wonder if Rose was meant to be more given the caliber of actress they hired. I remembered Sara and Peggy staying longer as they were still on when Soapnet started their repeats. I wonder if that was part of the reason they brought Jake's brother in.
    • Speculation about Missy Reeves' potential evolution on basic civil rights doesn’t change my opinion of her. My view is shaped entirely by her public social media presence—which I find unpalatable—and I have no interest in learning more beyond that. I simply liked Jennifer’s hair and dress. That’s as far as my admiration goes.

    • Cheryl was gone before Lemay came back but I agree with your thinking that he would rather a character from a family he introduced to the show than a family he did not originate.  I remember reading somewhere in the early 90's probably after DS left as writer, their was an either a writer or a producer who made a comment that their intent was bring the McKinnon family back to AW.  Would have made sense for the newer viewers from the 80's.  Much like Lemay's attempt to bring the Frames back from his writing in the 70's in his 1988 return
    • DePriest left in January 1988. According to the AWHP, Rose last appeared nearly a year before in February 1987 while both Sara and Peggy appeared as late as October 1987.
    • Annie was not brought in as an antagonist for Reva. Reva wasn’t even on the canvas when Annie first appeared in late 1994.
    • The speculation……….very entertaining.
