Well Donna was the original veteran set to be killed off during the stalker storyline, and all the seeds of that were in place. However, when word got out, fans were outraged so JFP & Depriest had to change the intended victim. Rumour had it that they went to a focus group where Paulina and Frankie were scored the lowest and I guess Frankie was chosen by Depriest. Also there was talk when backlash was set to eropt over killing Frankie that JFP tried to have it so that Frankie would be persumed dead but Depriest was dead set on killing her.

What I don't get about that is how Jill didn't get the final say seeing as she is EP. Unless MADD, who was over the P&G soaps at the time, was backing the death of Frankie. Jill should've wielded her power and forced Margaret to change the ending. Frankie wasn't my favorite and I wasn't upset with her dying. Just how she died. Her begging and pleading was disturbing at that time. And then for them to try and undo it '99 made me . I was already invested in Lila and Cass by then and the show was going off the air. No need to have brought Frankie's doppelgänger, who was really supposed to be her, back.

Sometimes, I think they would've done Donna justice if they would've killed her because they didn't give her anything to do in the last three years of the show. Love Donna but she was criminally underutilized towards the end. The only story she had was when Marley caused her to go mute, which lead to the sh*tty Lumina/Jordan Stark story. And when that was over, she was back to doing the usual--scolding and advising Vicky about her love life. I'm sorry but Donna was too fabulous and too lively to be consumed with Vicky's love life. Donna should've been dating or working--something! I remember them trying to get Donna to run for mayor or some public office but I never saw Donna as one to want to run for her office. Be first lady, yes. Not be a government official. That's a story I could've seen them giving to Michael, which is what they should've did. Had Michael run against Grant and for Grant [and Cindy] to bring Matthew back to woo Donna, thus resulting in a big political scandal during the campaign. It would've prevented Grant and Cindy from doing the same slapstick antics they did in the final years and given Michael something to do instead of quickly being killed off.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Robyn Griggs was dating John Bobbit or spending a lot of time with him. Didn't AW think it was too much bad press or something so they didn't want her on the show. I remember being annoyed that they let her go for that because AW needed all of the press they could have gotten at the time. tongue.png Not that I liked Robyn's Maggie...but ....

Dennis Parker who played Derek Mallory on Edge of Night had quite a porn past as Wade Nichols (as well as a brief disco singing career after he changed his name to Dennis Parker) in the 1970s that included both gay and straight porn. He became ill with AIDS & left the show a few months before the end of the series when he became too ill to work & died within months of the final episode. You really should look up "Like an Eagle" by Dennis Parker on youtube. It's quite a campy disco experience. lol

Anna Stuart did play Donna on ATWT. Donna was always one of my fave characters, mainly because of Anna Stuart's portrayal.

I wish Donna could have kept the snotty edge she had in the beginning where she acted better than everyone else because of her status. I think they made her too weak once Reginald came on. I always hated how Donna was so frightened of her father when she was a grown woman! They could have shown her intimidated by Reginald without making her seem like such a weak little girl and then her breakdown.

It's too bad that she would have left if AW had stayed on the air. I thought the show was starting to come around (except for the stupid Lumina story with Jordan Stark). I really liked Amanda/Cameron, Lila/Cass and then Alice Barrett coming back. It would have been a blow for Donna to leave even though she hadn't been used that well.

    • Setting aside a general distaste for the story -- I was sitting here wondering how long Erica's doppelgänger Jane story lasted?  Also, how did it begin?  What was the setup for Erica to have a double?
    • Fixed. Thanks for letting me know.   DA's passing truly saddened me. More than many of the recent passings. I was holding out hope we'd get one more visit  before she passed.

    • Made even dumber with that Blake/Alexis chokehold, followed by the following season when Matthew resurfaced. WTF? There’s good reason I have skipped from Season 5 straight to Season 9 on a couple of my Dynasty rewatches lol. And Chase was supposed to die, but somehow they talked Foxworth back into one more season. They probably shouldn’t have at all.
    • Philip, like Reva, were characters that should have remained in the 80s and never been bought back to the soap.
    • I was just going through the vault and watching some random episodes from 2001, then 2006. Sigh. What a different show it was back then. It makes me so sad that it’s barely a shell of its former self. It was always so multigenerational. There were compelling stories for all generations without having to sacrifice anything to make it work.
    • We are exactly the same. Ashland Locke at least had potential until JG decided to ruin that as he’s known to do with just about everything. It’s clear Sony and CBS don’t give a [!@#$%^&*].
    • Considering Naomi/Jacob are helping with June... and that she and Jacob have a complicated history with Hayley.. there is more soap opera potential having June and Hayley being related.    This is the downside of the show having one huge extended family... anyone not related to the family are boxed in a corner (i.e. Ashley/Derek, Tomas, Hayley/Bill).   If this were a 30 minute soap, I could understand the one family focus.. but this an hour soap so we best be getting a second family and/or characters not connected to the Duprees unless through work/romantic.. etc.
    • That guy also abused Beth (the one Lizzie killed), which the show probably should have done more with rather than just giving her a split personality and having her do whatever the plot demanded.
    • Thanks @slick jones I should mention that someone on the comments for the Ryan's Hope video with Susan Marie Snyder said the episode must have aired in July 1985. Those photos of Denise Alexander are lovely. The one with Denise, Leslie Charleson and Susan Brown got me emotional. We were so lucky to have them for so long.
    • It's just an absolute mess, and at this point, I genuinely do not know if anyone could turn the ship around. It feels like we're too far gone from what would be familiar for this soap. Genuinely.
