Members Vee
Trump and Dobbs lost them these midterms, and Trump lost them this seat. He's spent years saying do not vote early, and this will keep happening until they can successfully steer enough of their base away from Trump. And I don't think they can yet. DeSantis is the next body to fall. Remember I said it.
Members janea4old
Obama gave this speech a couple days ago and then tweeted this part earlier today. So powerful. His words apply to the ongoing struggle...

Members janea4old
Updates on US House of Representatives election results from November. As of November 23, 2022 California 13th Congressional District Democrat Gray vs. Republican Duarte Duarte is ahead by only 593 votes, race not called yet. UPDATE: Calif 13th: Finally called Friday evening Dec. 2 but somehow I didn't see it until now. Republican Duarte was called as winner and Democrat Gray has conceded. https://www.mercedsunstar.com/news/politics-government/election/article269147882.html https://twitter.com/AdamGrayCA/status/1598871913509421056 ____________________________ The only remaining House seat not officially called from the November elections: Colorado's 3rd Congressional District, where Republican Lauren Boebert was ahead by only 550 votes and therefore a district-wide automatic recount was ordered on December 1st. "the recount, which must be completed by Dec. 13, as required by law, is not expected to change the outcome of the race." https://www.cpr.org/2022/12/01/state-orders-recount-boebert-frisch-race-district-3/ ________________________________________ MEANWHILE ... newly-reelected Donald McEachin of Virginia's 4th Congressional District passed away on November 28. Virginia's Republican governor Glenn Youngkin will call for a special election at some point. The governor's initial statement was that it was time to mourn and honor the late McEachin and it was not yet time to set an election to replace him. Details from Virginia Public Media (VPM): The Virginia state constitution doesn’t specify how quickly Youngkin must set a date for the election — but it can’t occur within the 55 days before a primary or general election, according to a spokesperson for the Department of Elections. The next scheduled primary is June 20. https://vpm.org/news/articles/37685/youngkin-to-set-special-election-to-fill-mceachin-seat Counting back 55 days from June 20 would mean that the election needs to be held before April 26. And if there is a primary for THAT, then the primary would have to be held a while before April. The District will likely elect a Democrat, but the seat remains vacant until after whenever they hold an election. _____________________________________________ Count of US House of Representatives for the new session that begins January 2023 (from the November 2022 election results plus McEachin's passing): Democrats 212 Republicans 221 In recount process: 1 Vacancy due to death: 1 __________ total 435 ____________________________________ US Senate starting January 2023 (from the November 2022 election results plus Dec. 6 Georgia run-off): Democrats 51 Republicans 49. Members DRW50
I'm seeing a lot of despair over how close the race was and how can this be in America or in Georgia, which reminds me of how many online expect too much. It was extremely difficult for Democrats to recapture the breaks of the 2020/2021 period, and to defeat a football hero, even one who was a shockingly inept candidate. They beat back the most basic of cynicism and identity politics. Georgia is still not a blue state, and has to fight to keep the elements of a purple state. Warnock should be credited for his difficult feat, as should Stacey Abrams and everyone else trying to stop the state from going backward the way others like North Carolina did. May they manage to still hang on even as the media coronates DeSantis 2024. The knives are out among a certain set for Mitt Romney's niece. (Ned Ryun is a lunatic). We'll see if it goes anywhere.
