The Beltway folks are of course fawning over Melania's bare minimum speech. But I often expect that of them, especially in an environment when they are desperate for a horse race to materialize. But it won't move the needle IMO and I suspect they'll grudgingly flip the tone of coverage tomorrow when they see the public reaction and polling, which is how things have generally gone for them over the last four years any time they've attempted to normalize Trump.

I don't think they will, as they need this convention to be a win for Trump and they need to try to return to the easy narrative of First Lady humanizing President (so voters can forgive him anything), even though Melania has so little interest in doing that she even wore a jacket telling us she doesn't care about sick, dying children in cages. They are also trying to gin up outrage over Bette Midler telling the truth (she can't speak English).

I am not surprised to learn CNN are the main ones pushing this narrative. They really aren't even trying to be subtle about reelecting Trump.

At least most of them didn't embarrass themselves as much as Chris Cilizza, who tried to tell us how incredible Tiffany's "I know struggle since I didn't immediately get a job" speech was.

The toothless rat of an Attorney General of Kentucky had the nerve to invoke Breonna Taylor's name at the RNC while he refuses to arrest the police officers who killed her. These people are shameless.

Someone else the media is fawning over, and telling us is even better than Obama. They love to push the minority Republican storyline at any cost. This man is, like his bankroller McConnell, so soulless that he chose to inflict pain on the people who were mourning and trying to get justice for Taylor by releasing engagement photos with his fiancee - a big, happy, white family, grinning at the camera to remind them who will always win out. Absolutely depraved. This is the modern GOP.

Re supposedly "liberal" media outlets giving news with a right-wing skew:

I read things on CNN, nytimes.com, washingtonpost, etc.

and then I check The Guardian.
The Guardian is usually more accurate.

Releasing those pictures seemed calculated to me. As if he was trying to reaffirm his commitment to maintaining the establishment. But he had no problem using Breonna's name to score some sort of cheap political points to look reasonable to the public.

Is CNN pushing the narrative even more so than Fox and OANN?

I don't really count OANN as it doesn't have their reach, yet. Fox is Fox, but they have less to prove and seem to be in some vague flux at the moment. So yes, I'd say CNN is pushing it more.

Recently rapper Ice Cube has been working hard to convince Black people to hold our votes hostage. Saying things like Biden doesn't have a Black agenda, blah, blah, typical voter suppression stuff. It turns out Cube has connections to Steve Bannon.

It's a complicated story and I'm not going to pretend that I understand it all but another name caught my eye. Cube's business partner in an alternative basketball league is Jeff Kwatinetz. Remember him from Prospect Park's attempt to reboot AMC and OLTL? Honestly, there seems to be no end to this nest of grifters and con artists willing to sell this country out.

Ratings wise, the Dem Convention has beaten the Rep Convention for the past 3 days!

I am at this point agreeing with Carl. I even see Never trump republicans on social media freaking out over this RNC convention claiming that the GOP must be onto something with internal polling and this push on Law and Order and Socialism.  I keep thinking its because even these grifters are trying to turn this into the usual horserace.

That "internal polling" thing is a right wing/concern troll push. I don't see any signs of its legitimacy or anyone beyond trolls claiming there's any rout ahead. Also, Never Trumper dudes always swoon over a law and order push.

I cannot and will not watch this speech. If anyone did is this snip in context? Did he really all but say white people are here and "they" are not??  I find the setting for that speech incredibly creepy as well.  I hate to admit it, but the Trumpers have managed to make Old Glory a symbol I have a negative connotation with now.

I hate Trump as much as anybody who hates him but he said we're here and they're not. The Trumpsters on other forums are bragging that there was a crowd there and there's was no masks wearing going on.

Thanks for answering!  The mask thing is just so foolish.

Oh they aren't even subtle about it. Jake Tapper, one of the belt buckles of the Beltway along with Chris Cilizza (who of course has had high praise much of the week) was tweeting National Review articles yesterday to prove that Biden was losing. CNN has had the usual praise beneath the empty posturing of their "stars," complete with Van Jones (who shouldn't even be working there after his conflicts of interest were exposed), gushing over Kushner:

https://twitter.com/donwinslow/status/1299075572732014592

The endless need to convince us that the rioting in Kenosha will help Trump, the endless need to convince us that a white 17 year old gunning down protesters is good for Trump, the endless "Democrats in disarray" framing telling us that Democrats need Biden to do more and Pelosi handing them a huge gift by saying Biden should refuse to debate...they are pulling out all the stops.

This is going to be a very close election, if Biden wins. The media has too much money tied up in Trump and they need the GOP to stay in power because it helps them and also feels right to them. They will pull out all the stops. And many, many people will believe them.

That's their way of owning the Libs by gathering in public events by not wearing masks and not social distancing and they wear it with a badge of honor.
