Y&R: Week of December 1st

I'm talking about the Tuesday US show as being a filler episode since only 15 minutes was not a re-treading waste of time. Do they have someone new doing the wardrobe because Jill's suit tomorrow is stunning, as was the grey shirt Nikki was wearing at the will reading, Kay's burial outfit and even Gloria is looking a little less trashy while still being in character.

I didn't mind Monday's episode and agree about Amber. When she joined Y&R, I was spitting mad but she's actually turned into the only one in that female age group, aside from Jana, I enjoy watching.

Feisty is my word for attitude, intelligence and spark. And to Daytime Fan whom suggested Vivica - right on the money sister! I envision Yolonda to come back fully rehabbed and glammed up. For those of you who remmeber Good Times (oh how I loved that show) - Penny (played by Janet Jackson) was abused by her mom and put in the care of a good neighbor - Vilona (I don't know the spelling of her name) and after taking care of her her birth mother came back with a new hubby and was rich and had this nefarious plan to get custody of Penny. I want to see Yolonda come back clean and rich and with an axe to grind. That's really all the Winters need to get their story juiced is some actual conflict and an antagonist. The writers have set this up very well (although boringly).

Oh and DaytimeFan - if they make Yolanda a 13 week stunt i really think viv would do it.

Loving the Nikki/Jill dynamic. "Get a life!" Nikki should have slugged her.

LOVING Nikki's funky black coat with sparkles in it.

Hating Gloria. Sorry, I just do not by this woman or character as an amzing business woman, stockholder, whatever. I am sick of the Fishers. They are the John McBains of Y&R.

This Kay at the diner thing can go on forever as far as I am concerned. I feel like Bill Bell is writing this.

Why can't I feel this Anna storyline? Tyra leaves me cold. I am really enjoying Olivia though.

See, I wasn't buying Neil's reaction in the SL. Karen kind of had to kick him in the ass and say "What would Drucilla do? She's fight to the end! So let's do it!"

I am intrigued to see if Crackanda does show up -- and why she wants Ana back all of a damn sudden.

I am so ready to see Gloria's dreams of wealth and power crumble around her. Especially after the way she threw over Lowell. Hopefully GhostJohn has seen what she's really like and will stop yapping at Jack about what a great person Gloria is and how she needs to inherit all the Abbott money, etc.

    • National City Star-News, 5 May 1977 TV topics by Peter Blazi Lear’s ‘All that Glitters’—doesn’t The best thing that can be said about Norman Lear’s newest soap opera“All That Glitters” is that it comes on so late at night most people will miss it. Role reversal is supposed to be the big draw, with women the breadwinners, mainly executives of a huge conglomerate. The men either fuss with the housework or fidget at the office as secretaries to their bawdy bosses. A female fantasyland? I doubt it. While the role reversal idea has some possibilities, the show pushes too hard for laughs and winds up with raucous females and effete males. A confident, independent woman is indeed a sight to behold and attract, but femininity need not be sacrificed. Unlike Lear’s “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman,” "Glitters” doesn’t, but you’ve got to give him credit for trying. Today’s experimental comedy is what tomorrow’s hits are made of. Better luck next time, Norman. (“All That Glitters” can be seen weekday evenings at 11 p.m. on Channel 6.) .
    • Actually Kim Zimmer got six weeks off to test the waters for pilot season in L.A. - she said later she went on many auditions and got one offer for a sitcom, but she would one of many in an ensemble. She turned it down, because it wasn't worth leaving Guiding Light for a supporting role on a sitcom.
    • I'm not even sure why Zoe would care, even if they know each other offcamera.  I can't see Jean going, but if she is - good riddance at this point.
    • I just found the commercial on YouTube, with several other GL'ers doing the same commercial - how fun!

She did the same for me once Ghost Reva arrived (the anxiety and paranoia) - which is when the storyline for Rick/Annie started, with their Chicago past and her alcoholism. But before all that, when she was new and tending to Josh's broken leg, she was just normal, sweet and very cute/flirty.
    • I have to admit Annie exhausted me somewhat before she went nuts. So much anxiety. She and Robert were OK I guess. Didn't ever stick out much one way or the other.
    • I meant to ask in the May thread, but hey...it's not like it won't come up...   ...has our opinions of Jessica changed at this point? I know we debated at one point if she was sincere in her feelings for Ty or if she was in on his bullying. Now that a little more time has passed, what do we think?
    • Which is why I said...and continue to say mind you...that the designer is still trying to figure out what works for which character...highlight my points with particular characters. And as I also agree with you, too many misses. She has not found a clear, firm rhythm for me. Yet.   I also agree that BTG does a much better job. But I'll give credit where it's due.
    • I watch many episodes from the Vault, a secret source here on SON, because the quality is much better than YouTube. But, it has commercials that I have to skip through, although even these commercials give me serious nostalgia vibes. All that said, there is a consistent 1996 commercial for Excedrin with Frank Beatty!  He talks right into the camera about his feelings, and it's like Brent Lawrence never left. I wonder if GL fans back in the day ever saw this and had feelings about it.
    • Dukes of Hazzard had a good run when it moved to 8pm but even when that was failing ABC and NBC couldn't come up with a hit show to dominate  that timeslot. NBC sent The A Team, Knight Rider and Riptide there for their final seasons and CBS did the same with Scarecrow & Mrs King. Otherwise it was a barrage of new shows that never worked.
    • Agree. Much more miss than hit. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I thought clothing was supposed to be flattering. A lot of the Y&R women are seen in the tight solid color dresses ,often with cutouts/one shoulder. Now that may be a fashion but to have all of them in interchangeable dresses... Do the characters have a particular color pallette/style that is unique to them? BTG does a better job in that department. Some recent Y&R looks. I actually like the dress but we see that style too often.   Nikki's new look is not to my liking.
