I'm sure I've read somewhere that the season was supposed to end with Gary's "death," but that once CBS extended KL's episode order for the season, we got the cliffhanger at the Belmar Hotel instead.

The Wolfbridge Group reminds me of those conspiracy films from the '70's where you had one character (in KL's case, Mack) taking on a shady organization whose motives aren't entirely clear, except you know that they're "bad news" and that whatever they intend to do will have far-reaching consequences on the public at large.  I think FC tried something similar with Richard Channing and the Thirteen, but that story got bogged down with so much Golan-Globus-esque theatrics that the entire storyline looks cheap and tawdry today.

Correct. I think they discussed it in some of the old Tommy Krasker interviews.

Lotus Point and Wolfbridge worked because they encompassed the entire canvas and still gave us high emotional stakes character driven storytelling.

Still my favorite season because of this. Season 6, while good, I don't think the stories were as tightly woven. Their strongest premiere, some great moments, in between, and the exciting last 7 episodes make the season for me.

I'd pick Laura.  She seemed confident, competent, and knew how to separate personal from professional.. and was upfront if she wasn't happy with the quality of your work.   Karen would be a nightmare to work with and for... and leans too much into her emotions instead of being pragmatic.   Abby would be too much for herself so you couldn't trust her to actually be honest with you and would probably throw you under the bus in order to get herself out of trouble.  Val seemed better being self employed as an author (though I did love that brief stint in season 8 trying to write a screenplay.. and her work space at home was a mess... relatable).

I thought Season 6 was the best season. Val's babies and Ava Gardner arc were the highlights for me. The last 10 episodes of season 6 were the peak of the series.

S6 was a great season for sure. Val's babies were awesome, and Ruth and Laura were fun, though!  I know a lot of people agree with you. They were at the top of their game, Seasons 4/5/6, but my taste gravitates to S5 and S4 more. 

 

Season 4 in particular was a very unpredictable year. I liked all the moving pieces within the cast, and the changing of the couples; it all felt fresh. And add in the fact I did not read any spoilers before watching that season, so CiJi's death rocked me cause she was my favorite character that season. 

Looks like the entire series leaves Amazon Prime again in 14 days, along with FC and Dallas. 

Despite the tedious ads I've been watching it on Plex. It seems to come and go from Amazon Prime every few months so I finally just gave up and went to Plex and it's been reliable.

I wish they would release the entire seasons of FC for purchase. It's getting ridiculous at this point with the constant available/unavailable nonsense.

Knowing how this has worked so far, it'll just be back up w/no warning in 24-48 hours.

Finished Season 5. The closest I have to a fresh insight on those last few episodes is that Gary's funeral had three widows. Cathy's scene with the cowboys feels to me like she was acting like the widow of Westfork.

I thought it was fantastic. I'd never actually seen it in full until now, just the scenes included in the Season 5 recap that I used to watch all the time on YouTube. Seeing the complete episode, at the conclusion of a season I've been watching over the last few weeks, gives me a much better appreciation for that cliffhanger and the stakes involved. You really do believe that Mack's thisclose to going full-on insane in those last seconds.

I am slightly confused about why there were two assassins at the Belmar, though. We've got Grace Zabriskie, who's intending to shoot Gary in the lobby. And then, waiting behind that outside planter, is the guy who thought he killed Gary. It looks like he's there to get another crack at Gary, but I'm also wondering if he was originally dispatched to take out Mack. Then again, maybe he wasn't dispatched. Maybe he went rogue. I guess only he and/or Mark St. Claire would know that.

I lost count of how many times I watched that finale. It's just sooo good. I am happy you enjoyed it too! I might be alone here, but I think the Gary faux death would have been a decent enough finale. I do agree that some of the puzzle pieces were confusing the first time around. 

 

Honestly, you'll go INSANE trying to piece together all things Wolfbridge, lol.
