I wanted to like today's episode of Y&R. It had all the elements of a good soap tragedy, but I felt that it was so contrived, everything. Maybe it was because Victor's love for Sabrina was so instant and Victoria's sudden need to make up Sabrina rang false. Phyliss bugging Daniel was so out of place in the episode. The only thing that worked for me was Paul and Nikki because their friendship is genuine and long lasting. I believe that Paul cares about Nikki with no reservations and that Nikki would turn to Paul for comfort and support because that friendship.

J.T. used to be a real bad boy and interesting. Unfortunately, he was toned down for his original love story with Colleen. He is pure soap beef like Brad and that is the only reason that they are still around given their characters' lack of substance.

Unfortunately the episode itself didn't.

Too much happened and in the end nothing made sense or felt odd at least. Victor wants to take Sabrina home, yet he hasn't spoken with any doctor? Then the doctor breaks the news in totally lame fashion. David is written off, his identity revealed to anyone and it felt totally WTF!?

Sudden Impact has been botched completely - I'm not impressed. The gala went way below it's possibilities and so seems to be the fall out. Kill the speedy pacing...

David being written out was botched. I think he should have lingered on longer -- longer, even, than Sabrina -- just so we could have tied up more of the loose ends.

However, the episode as a whole? Was excellent. The relationships between people -- Victor & Victoria, Nikki & Paul, Victor & Sabrina -- seemed rejuvenated. Raya Meddine and Eric Braeden, in particular, brought it. Seeing Victor crying was unexpectedly moving, especially when he saw Sabrina's flatter stomach and knew the baby was gone. Loved him dissing Fauxtoria when she tried to apologize "Too late for that now."

Pure, soapy fall-out. I didn't care about the Gala. This was the important bit. And the week's not over yet.

^^^ IA Cat. I thought the show was excellent.

And David passing so quickly - off camera - didn't feel right. He should have lingered longer, IA. That part just came across to me as way too rushed.

But overall, I am happy with yesterday's show and looking forward to today's.

    • She did have a thing with him in the late '90s, before she inexplicably disappeared with no mention as to why, although I can't remember if they had sex.
    • I don't believe she did. She did sleep with Simon, believing he was a Spaulding.
    • -- If I ever get sick, please don't send me to Garland Memorial. That hospital is a YIKES. -- Soooo much activity around the main nurses' desk. Do they move dead people on a gurney past that desk, too? -- 8 months for Bill to recover from a "small stroke"? Uh....I don't think so. Is anyone researching this stuff? The hospital stuff is not coming off as realistic. -- It's good that Derek and Ashley are being integrated into other stories, but it's a real stretch to say Leslie was "stalking" Ashley. It makes Derek seem dumber than we already think he is. -- Ashley spends a lot of time having small talk while she's at work. -- Chelsea is embarrassing. Period. -- Tomas is supposed to pick up the slack for Bill, but he has time to have worthless conversations with Leslie? OK then. -- Kat is destroying the case against Leslie, but that's clearly the way to keep Leslie on the canvas.
    • 6-3   I almost let my system just delete the episode just like with B&B. I am now questioning if I should have. lol.   I just can't believe that Cole sat there and started to get sick and then only Victoria off and ran off and everyone basically went back to what they were doing at Nikki's birthday party. Cole was too much of a vet character for that. And now story back off-screen.   I did chuckle at how much Victor pay Kyle dust. And now Kyle with this deal and a promise to leave town if he hurts Claire. smh. As if Victor isn't going to make that happen.   It was lovely to see Ashley. And actually (misdressed and all) Abby.    And I liked Claire's dress.
    • Oh. That. I pretend that never happened.

I did think of another possibility. Did India ever sleep with Alan? They kind of toyed with pairing them up, but I'm not sure they ever became lovers.
    • While I do love the chaotic energy that is Kat vs Lesile, it is a bit extra. Sheltered, virginal Kat who plays it safe from her man to her wardrobe understands that Leslie is dangerous, but she's out here showing up everywhere and anywhere that Lesile is to be found and actively going to places where she is alone? I mean Kat doesn't even act a little afraid or intimidated by Leslie. Meanwhile, big Ole Derek out here begging for his and Ashley's life to Jacob.  As for Dani, I didn't see it that way. Dani and Bill were together for 30 years and shared a family. I believe there was real love there at one point. Bill is still an ass and Dani is still crazy, but realizing she may lose him and her daughter's may lose their dad definitely struck a chord.
    • Funny I randomly saw Kami’s lengthy post about the 44th anniversary of the Walton’s finale last week pop up in my news feed on Facebook. A few inaccuracies to her post but overall it was pretty insightful and interesting to read.
    • Well, depending on rewrites...Jennifer Richards potentially slept with Brandon and Alan. It does feel like we're forgetting someone, but then again, maybe I'm confusing that with brothers, which would include a lot more.
    • Maybe it’s me, and the fact that RC isn’t at the helm, but since Cwikly and Ford have taken over I’ve noticed the show doing a lot of things differently directing wise, and since the storyline of John’s demise began, the show has been using different scores, and dare I say better ones than this time last year. It’s interesting and I wonder if the any of it is Noel Maxam’s influence before being promoted.
    • I think Nicole is about to figure out what's going on between Andre and Dani.
