Emmerdale: Discussion Thread

I won't be surprised if that happens before too long, although the show gets better ratings than most of their lineup, in some fairly weak timeslots.

Then again if the show is bringing in new people I guess they may not be cutting down. I guess we'll see if this is some web show.

Out of control pensioners crashing in an empty Home Farm...

I guess this is the big change. It's bigger for people in the UK I guess. Pauline Quirke, who was apparently on a very popular sitcom over there, is joining the show, she'll be playing Jackson's mother.

I do wonder if people may eventually stop paying attention to the big news teasers when it actually does turn out to be huge news.

Yes, Natasha finally put her punk ass son in his place. Marvelous. I heavily await Nathan's next move. :)

I am really loving Nikhil/Maisie. I hope when Debbie returns she'll be thrown in and we'll have ourselves a great and fun triangle on our hands.

The house that Declan bought ... is there a story there? Who used to live there? Why is it all messed up?

Alas, the sign is changed at The Garage. Hallelujah.

I forgot to mention how much my heart broke for Aaron on Thursday. And then today, I was really looking forward to a possible Gennie/Aaron bonding scene or something. When he called her frumpy and I was so let down. LoL

What is the name of the house? Then I might remember the history. Right now I'm just drooling over Declan...

I was right there with you about Gennie and Aaron. I know that's how he would see Gennie but I felt just awful for her. She really does care. At least she was actually included in the story. She's barely been involved. Seeing her more with Shadrach and Chas and now Aaron I hope it's a sign for the future. The woman who plays Gennie is so underrated. She was the one who really got to me in all that when Jamie broke up with her and left town. Her cries and screams as he left just gutted me.

Cain and Ryan teasing Aaron was such fun but with an edge, as Aaron is starting to regret his choices (like when Ryan teased him about being violent). I like the Ryan/Aaron relationship almost as much as the sweet Aaron/Adam.

How good were those scenes, especially when Aaron ran his hand down Adam's cheek. And Jackson's anger at Aaron, which was so strong, and really seemed to rattle Aaron.

I did kind of roll my eyes at the "kiss" between Jackson and his friend -- that was barely a peck on the cheek. Something tells me that anyone who is looking forward to some hot moments between Aaron and any men are going to be disappointed.

Oh no it is good news, I was just talking about in relation to what we were speculating on. So what do you think of her?

Amello, here's what I found about the house, Dale Head, in my 2002 Emmerdale book.

Dale Head Farm

Dale Head Farm sits at the other end of the terrace from Pear Tree Cottage, on the same side of Main Street as the Woolpack. Whoever lives there (we've never seen them) also owns the barn next door.

Is there a barn there now, and is the Woolpack nearby? I guess it at least has the same name.

I'm not sure if anything has gone on there between 2002 and 2010. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Pauline Quirke should be quite good on Emmerdale. I liked her on Birds of a Feather. Though I would have actually thought she'd be more suited for EastEnders lol...but then again just because she's a Londoner and has mainly worked for the BBC in the past doesn't mean she can't do Emmerdale.

If anyone wants to see it, someone was nice enough to put up all the scenes Marc Silcock appeared in as Bob's son. This was early 2006. He has a very unfortunate hairstyle...

Yes, they are. Viv was great then. I still like her now but she hasn't been quite the same, I think it's because she went so OTT when Anita Turner was producer, as Turner loved Val and Eric and their comedy stories. Since then the show has toned her down quite a bit.

Did you hear that line from Bob about how Jamie was "sleeping his way around Spain." Does that sound like Jamie to you?

    • Kat vs. Eva and Anita vs. Leslie were today's highlights.
    • TBF, the majority of Month 2 was them beefing up all the side-stories...mind you Duprees as well as non-Duprees...and it did not seem like people were taking to it as well as they were taking to stories in Month 1. If anything I feel (hope) that May Sweeps is going to shift...while dealing with the aftermath of the Nicole/SilkPress storyline...to the next big story aka Martin's Secret. But that's me hoping that Martin's meltdown over SilkPress jiggles some memories of his out...which I was already hoping would happen. Add on that Bill is involved in both stories now...that might be his way of being sure nothing happens to him now in light of SilkPress's antics.    And...same. I feel they did a better job than expected with Vanessa/Doug with me because I didn't even realize how invested I was until their talk at the hospital and Doug made that subtly blunt comment about their arrangement...making the various online discussions online real. And for me, relevant.
    • Michael Logan is being disingenuous. He knows who's to blame in these situations. Not only does he know how daytime works, but he also wrote about all the BTS shenanigans at the P&G soaps leading up to the Justine story. I will give Victoria Wyndham this: she went all out in the performance. She didn't half ass the performance. Let's also not forget that it was Michael Logan who was publicly calling for the firing of JFP when she on GL but says nothing about that in this interview or in the articles. My guess is that someone at AW didn't like Wyndham and was giving Logan the gossip and he was writing his column with that tea.
    • Basic script work; if it hadn't been for Jane Elliot and Rena Sofer, it could've been for any random character.
    • Because you are posting these things like they are true facts.  And they aren't. But whatever, Donna, you will just keep doing you.   Most people actually are trying to talk about GH in this thread.  Not random twitter/facebook/internet rumors you bring here.  I am just wasting my time even responding.
    • This is a common theme with long running actors and preposterous storylines. Firstly they may relish the chance to play something different after years as that character-Ok I have an evil twin, possessed by the devil etc-at least it's something new to play. Secondly, no matter how dumb the plot it keeps them frontburner and valued to the show and the audience. Better than being a talk to. Thirdly, as VW stated in the end they don't have the power to dictate story and too much complaining can backfire and set them up in a negative light. Not a good position to be in with your employers. So they just buckle up and give it their all or act out the script till it's over.
    • Your use of the word "apparently" would need to include a source. Just your use of the word doesn't make it true or valid. Where would you get the idea that something has happened if you hadn't already received an indication from somewhere else, specifically a valid source (including Tabyana herself)? By using the word "apparently," you are implying this was mentioned somewhere, either in a publication or similar.
    • I think Hotel would have the similar demos as Dynasty W 19-49 would have been strong. St Elsewhere survived b/c it attracted wealthier/urban viewers and The Equalizer was probably stronger with men and younger viewers. So each had their own niche-good counter-programming. As for Aaron Spelling's influence over ABC in terms of scheduling, I don't know if he would have been happy with Charlie's Angels moving to Sunday, The Colbys scheduled on Thursdays or Matt Houston moved to Fridays. I think he just had to roll with the punches.
    • Thank you @Broderick. That information was so helpful. I watched the first episode of the "Mansion of the Damned" storyline. I was extremely confused by Margaret Colin's Paige and her relationship to other characters. Your post helps me understand what's happening. The rest of the show was easy to understand and I'm enjoying it. Hunter's Nola is a good character for me since I know Kim Hunter from other work.  I must have seen clips of Edge of Night before because I remember seeing April.
    • How is it back tracking when it was in fact the word I originally used? It's not.
