A new Sugden.....

Emmerdale announces new Sugden family member for "gripping" storylines

I wonder how they will fit her into the family tree? Apparently the actress is 30 years old, so I guess she could pass as a never-before-heard-of child of Joe who died in 1995. That, or she's another child of Jack's, which would be a disappointment. Those are the only options though, since Jacob Sugden (Annie's husband) only had one brother and he died young in WWII.

I guess she could be a more distant relation, but I doubt the show would want to go all the way back to the early 1900s to find a link between her and the current Sugden family.

That was great. Thank you for discovering it. Those mid-1980s years are so hard to find anything from. I've seen quite a bit of the early 1980s, and of the late 1980s, but those middle years, 1983, 19

I hope that the latest development between Charity and Dr. Todd won't mean that this whole story will be about "poor Charity" going forward and that everything Dr. Todd did to Jacob will be swept unde

I could see them just calling her a cousin and not elaborating. A child for Joe would make more sense, unless they want to say that she is Jackie's long-lost kid (although she wouldn't be called Sugden). I just hope they will do a better job than they did with John, which was a fiasco.

I doubt they can do worse than they did with John. The only decent thing about him was that his existence actually was plausible in the show's timeline. Everything else was a horror show (literally and figuratively).

I guess most people will buy whatever explanation they will give regarding Serena Sugden (talk about an un-Sugden-like name by the way 🙄) and her connection to Robert and Victoria. Only old-timers like myself who are very particular about these things will bother about the details.

I see around the internet that I'm not the only one wondering how the new Sugden, Serena, will fit into the family tree. Some fans are speculating that she might be Joe's secret daughter, but I've also seen some thinking that she could be Peggy's daughter, which is, quite frankly, insane. Do those people realize that Peggy died 53 years ago?! 🙄

Sad but too true....

Emmerdale 2026 is a very different place from the days of Annie, Amos and Henry.

When Corriedale started I really thought this would be such a redeeming Act and rebuilt the show and it had some Momentum which died down so fast. Not even Hollyoaks worlds collide revamp and time Jump lost Momentum that fast lol

Emmerdale will never improve as long as the obsession with all things Dingle continue. I have very little hope for the new Sugden arrival. She will ultimately be connected to the Dingles in some way, just like everything else on the show. 🤮

So, the new Sugden made her debut yesterday, and I guess it's typical she had her first scenes with a Dingle..... 🙄

It was a bit unrealistic that Charity just blurted everything out to a complete stranger like that, but plot over character is very much Emmerdale these days.

I'm so curious how Serena will fit into the Sugden family tree, and that's really where my interest stops. I have very little faith that they will do justice to a new Sugden. The family has been an afterthought for far too long and the Dingle obsession on the show is too strong for me to believe that Serena will make any difference.

I knew it! I knew they would screw this up! Apparently Serena's grandfather is Jack's cousin. The problem with that is that Jack didn't have any cousins on his father's side, since his father didn't have any siblings except for a brother who died young in WWII. And apparently Serena have met her family before since she and Sarah talked about meeting at Jackie's wedding. Who this Jackie is is anybody's guess. Another never-before-heard-of relative who really shouldn't exist? 🙄

Oh, and another thing. Who thought it was a good idea to bring back Kev? Lord have mercy.....

Looking at spoilers (and knowing how this show works) it seems like my fears were right, and this will be all about Charity's pain going forward.... 😒 What Dr. Todd did to Jacob will probably be forgotten and never mentioned again, and everyone will forgive Charity's lies because of her suffering. 🤢 You just have to look at how fast Mack changed his tune. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes harder on Ross than on Charity.

I completely understand your vitriol for all things Dingle, but Charity has always been one of my favourites despite the fact she is one. I don't know why Charity, Mandy, and Marlon were made Dingles in the first place, or why they didn't have Mandy and Marlon as siblings to start. Charity has always been a star all her own and Mandy/Marlon only feel like Dingles when it suits. If those three were never Dingles, it would fix the heavy suffocation of the Dingle family on the show and it would erase all the incest that ever happened between them.

However, where I do feel disappointed with this story is in them having Mac tuck his tail between his legs after being so brutally betrayed so they can have him standing by her during this trial. It makes him look so pathetic. The fact that they're going to continue hiding the truth from Sarah and Jacob, with Mac stating, "they'll cross that bridge when they have to" is such weak motivation. I also have never thought they suited one another in the first place, at least not long-term. Of course, anything is better than her potentially reuniting with the horrible Vanessa, but them being married has always been a head scratcher to me.

Part of me thinks Mac could be stifling his anger at Charity by manipulating her to stay quiet until the trial and use Sarah's eventual anger and betrayal as a scapegoat for his own, but realistically I don't think they'd let him be that complex. I do think Mac will be Sadie King's first knockabout when she returns, I just hope Mac will be free of Charity when it happens and they won't use it to uselessly villainize him by saying he cheated on her.

As for Kev, I have to respectfully disagree with you big time. I love him to death. Chris Coghill is a revelation playing him and a complete hoot. He steals every scene he's in and I can't wait for more.

I respect your opinion. I realize that not everyone feels the same about the Dingles as I do. But if I had to keep one or two of the Dingles on the show Charity would not be one. I feel she's played out as a character after all these years. They've put her through so much story that there's nothing left to do with her. She would need a long break, several years at a minimum, to be even remotely viable again. It's really a shame, because Emma Atkins always gives it her all, and deserves better.

I realized right when it happened that they would use the assault on Charity as a way to get her off the hook for all that she's done. It was painfully obvious that Mack would react just the way he did, and everyone else will probably do the same. Most likely even Sarah, who is the biggest victim in all of this. She's been robbed of her chance to have a baby, and Charity's lie about suffering from post-partum depression has laid a massive guilt trip on her. She blames herself for Charity's state of mind, and the fact that Charity and Mack will keep on lying to her is inexcusable. I hope that they will let Sarah actually be furious with Charity when this all comes out, but I doubt it. Please prove me wrong Emmerdale!

As for Kevin... Maybe he will grow on me. But for him to do that they will have to tone him down. I guess he's supposed to be some sort of comic relief, but it's played too broad for me. I'm fine with that kind of comedy in the right surroundings and here it doesn't work, at least not for me. But I like Lewis and maybe he can make Kev more tolerable.
