Yeah Eileen has barely been on, I expect her exit to be worse than the crap they gave Gail. The Sun had a messy article claiming ITV is broke and the show can’t afford to pay the veteran actors their usual per-episode fees anymore. That’s apparently why the younger talent is on every day and people like Kate Ford are only on short-term contracts. They also said the cast has been told that none of their deals are guaranteed after 2025.

I’ve enjoyed the show for the most part lately but not enough to bother commenting on it lol. I love the Carla and DS Swain pairing and Betsy and Mason have grown on me. David and Shona finally getting a storyline has been good though I hate that it overshadowed Gail’s mediocre exit and that Max is always stinking up their scenes. I like how Kit stirs the pot as the shady cop on the cobbles and his addition to the Daisy/Daniel/Bethany/Ryan group freshened them up a bit. Cassie legit manipulating Ken and Tracy and Steve sniffing her out has been interesting too. LeeAnne vs Nick and Toya was tiresome for a minute but they made it more fun recently with her framing them for theft

They definitely could use a big cast purge though, there are about 20 or so characters I’d immediately dump without batting an eyelash. They can start with Max, Lauren, Bobby, Gemma, Chesney, Bernie, Sean, Kevin and Abi. When those characters get heavy story focus I completely zone out.

Max, Lauren and DeeDee yelling and crying over the fallout of Joel’s murder has been the absolute worst and unfortunately its the biggest story on the show at the moment.

DeeDee’s actress is fine but Max and Lauren’s portrayers are insufferable and I despise the optics of a black woman being pressured into keeping a pregnancy by these two alt right losers

Oh wow. If true, then that makes total sense. I'd imagine that this would possibly apply to Emmerdale, too. This isn't a good sign. Maybe the model needs to be shifted and they might need to cut back on weekly episodes; however, I do agree that they need to trim a good portion of the cast.

I am exactly one year behind but able to catch up via STV. Since my firestick thinks it is in Glasgow I am able to watch classic Brookside too!

Sad but not surprising news about Charlotte Jordan. Corrie has launched so many ingenues  from Sarah Lancashire to Michelle Keegan I expect most actresses want to follow in their footsteps. I hope the door is left open for a possible return. Daisy's presence has opened up so many dimensions of Jenny's character.

    • So Sonni would have somebody to talk to who she wasn't conspiring with (Will or Alan)? Alex kept telling Sonni how important her friends were...when she had virtually no friends. Instead they created loyal servants like Jane and Vera to give Alex people to play off of. They did that with Iris on AW, but Vivien was mostly there for comic relief Alex keeping Marah's paternity a secret was absurd. But I still love the scene between Alex and Alan where he convinces her by reminding her how they protected each other from their abusive father. Chris and Bev ATE that scene. Unfortunately, that took place only a few months before he exited the show...always thought they could have built on that, explored more how being Brandon's children screwed them both up. Maybe even used it as an explanation for the way their relationship could constantly swing from hatred to love. Instead of it being merely dictated by the plot.
    • The first one is Cass Winthrop dressed as Krystle Lake on Another World (not from his original creation of the character to hide from the loan shark Tony the Tuna, but at a romance convention trying to find out what had happened to Felicia who was missing). The second one is also Another World, Jake McKinnon as Doris although I don't recall what his purpose was.
    • I know there was one brief scene in the summer of 1989 where Lillian did mention Calla.. but in relation to her past relationship to Ross and it was to Roger while he was a patient at Cedars.  I think he was trying to pump her for information on Ross.. and for some reason, Calla's name came up.   I could see perhaps Beth mentioning that her mother Lillian was visiting Calla.. but not exactly giving any sort of details as to the going ons in Calla's life off screen.
    • Mac Scorpio and Kevin Collins, GH

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
    • I also never understood Alex's friendship with Sonni or keeping the secret of Marah's paternity.  Not exactly heartbroken about Ms. Sally being ushered to the Hereafter.
