The actress playing Yasmeen and actor playing Geoff are putting in great work. The storyline is good soap all around.

It's such a nice contrast to basically...every other storyline, especially the year+ bore-a-thon with Gary as a baddie.

Thanks for sharing that! I really enjoyed Ashley back in the day, and I still haven't forgiven them for killing him off they way they did (and calling it a 50th anniversary celebration!). This is one of my favorite Corrie scenes:

I just really hated it when they paired him up as a comedy double act with that goddamn Graeme who was supposed to be the comedic god of Coronation Street but fizzled out after two or three years.

Graeme would probably still be there if the actor hadn't quit. Good for him.

I was very fond of Ashley. I still hate that they killed him off.

Corrie is alright to me at the moment, but I don't watch a ton. British soaps are pretty bad these days.

In these times you have to appreciate every little positive thing....

Apparently the current pandemic has forced Coronation Street to scrap plans for a big stunt for the show's 60th anniversary. Instead it's gonna be more of a back-to-basics situation, which even the producer, Ian McLeod, has acknowledged is more true to the original premise for the show.

I didn’t realize that one of classic Corrie’s best writers, Adele Rose, died at the end of 2020. She’s the one that wrote Bet and Rita’s ‘PALS?! PALS?!’ tiff (amongst many other classic episodes/scenes).

RIP to Mark Eden as well. Alan Bradley was unforgettable and that was a great era for the show.

    • I agree.  How many times did we have to watch Bobby vs. J.R., or Blake vs. Alexis, knowing that nothing would change at the end, and that everything would go back to status quo, so that they could fight the same, exhausting battles all over again?  If nothing else, I give FC and KL credit for trying to keep things fresh, even if I think FC, in particular, went too far in the other direction and became unrecognizable even to the most diehard fans. Exactly.  Plus, because viewers were so burned out by the kind of serialized storytelling that was beginning to affect even half-hour comedies, I think MSW represented a nice change of pace.  You didn't have to watch every week, or watch from the beginning of each season, to know what was going on with Miss Fletcher.  Instead, you could watch a complete story in one episode, de-stress from whatever had happened in your own life last week, gear yourself up for the week ahead, and be okay.
    • I saw a conversation yesterday with Liam with the 7 dwarves hat and Steffy -  I know she did not say re: Hope and Liam said - well look at Finn and you forgave him right?      I know I did not hear Steffy say “well but you can’t compare that to…”  For *uck sake someone call the bitch out!?     You’re right, we shouldn’t compare your forgiveness for the dude with devil spawn seed whose daughter locked you in a cage along with crazy stepmom/mom/Grandmother who has also SHOT YOU BOTH - and multiple murder attempts but you have to exist with them / Hope’s part in a takeover which you know was FAR LESS THAN CARTER BECAUSE HOPE IS NOT AN ATTORNEY…. Goodness no, no the same thing at alllllllll.   When they do Steffy’s absence at least let it be because they all find out what a manipulative ho she is in her own right.
    • I think a lot of us still agree with that. I do hope that the resurgence in the soap world with Beyond the Gates will push ABC to either bring back these shows or produce a newer one.
    • So, this was fun. Elsewhere, friendly to polls, a poll on what do you want to see at the Nurses Ball. The Gio reveal got 18%, for Blaze to return & sing also got 18%, for Jennifer Hudson to do a cameo & sing got 10% and for Lucy to lose various parts of clothing got 9% but the huge one was the reveal of Drew/Nina sex which got a whopping 45%!
    •   I liked the effect of the curtains closing. Yeah it was like the end of Act I.   Or maybe they are simply trying to emphasize the drama of the end of an episode -- instead of a random abrupt end that has happened in some prior episodes.
    • I posted this in the behind the scenes thread but I know this thread is busier so wanted to mention it here as well. During their instagram live yesterday, Daphnee Duplaix and Trisha Mann-Grant mentioned that they will find out this month if the show is renewed for another season. Just a heads up so we can keep an eye out for an announcement and keep our fingers crossed for a multi-year renewal!
    • They haven't explained the ownership of the Bistro, but Doug told Holly the other day he didn't get the job there. Basically Roman just hired Doug on the spot and gave him a room.  It was really nice of Roman.  I don't know if he knows who Doug is or that he stole Julie's necklace.  That was unclear-at least to me. ETA-I feel like the Bistro might just die and people will just pretend to order food there like Leo did today.  Sophia is on bed rest so no one works there anymore.  They can use that set for something else.
    • I'm not sure how I felt about it, but I do kind of like that it felt like the show telling us this concludes the first chapter of the series. Could be interesting if they only do it for big aftermath episodes. The biggest mistake with Martin is that it's almost hard to buy his anger because we've gotten no strong scenes with him and his parents. They've all been with Anita/Vernon. I can't even remember him ever even saying one word to Nicole, even in passing.
    •   Thank you! Agreed on both posts. And the comments about Mike Manning are nonsense.
