Isn't Carley Stenson their longest serving, in terms of consecutive years, female cast-member?

Of course, tenure never stopped Marquess from firing people elsewhere...

But I don't think they're going to get rid of Steph. Where would Tom go? The folks at Lime seem very invested in Ellis Hollins and keeping him on the show for as long as they can. Cindy wouldn't want him and is involved is another sphere at the moment.

He mentioned involving Frankie a lot in upcoming stories, I don't think they'd write her only real child on the show off, as Jake is being written off again soon.

But, ever since Max died and the Niall stuff cooled, I've felt like they haven't known what to do with Steph. What do you suggest, Carl?

Since Marquess wants to bring in a Jordan wannabe, they could have Steph mentor her, since Steph had those exact same stories for years and years. She's also the only friend Lee has on the show.

Carley is one of the show's best actors and has a lot of ties to everyone, it would be bizarre if they don't exploit that, especially compared to dead zones like Cheryl or Theresa or Carmel.

New bad boy for 'Hollyoaks'

Irish actor Emmett Scanlan has been cast as a new bad boy character in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

The 30-year-old begins filming with the teen serial next month as Brenden, a sinister new arrival with a dark past.

Scanlan has appeared in a variety of small TV and film parts since 2004, but Hollyoaks will be his first major acting job. His previous credits include appearances on Irish medical drama The Clinic and the 2008 movie Freakdog.

Speaking of his Hollyoaks appointment, Scanlan told the Evening Herald: "I've just booked a leading role in it which starts in May and I'm a bad-ass in it. I play a bad guy with a dark secret who goes by [the] name of Brenden.

"It's a good healthy stint of six to seven months and I can't wait to get started. It's all about new experiences and Hollyoaks has a very impressive history. It's great to be part of it."

Scanlan is the latest in a string of new signings which have been announced since new producer Paul Marquess joined the Chester-based drama in January.

Since taking the helm at the soap's home in Liverpool, Marquess has instigated a mass shake-up of the soap's cast and creative teams.

Last week, he announced a hoard of new names, including former Bill actress Kim Tiddy, who he hopes will help reinvent the serial.

Yesterday, Digital Spy exclusively revealed that Channel 4 chiefs have recommissioned a third run of E4 spin-off Later.

I guess this is the guy that's going to make Cheryl's life a "misery?" <_<

I hate Cheryl and wished she would be one of the characters culled...

Though, hopefully he's an interesting villain and interacts with many others on the canvas.

Speaking of bringing back random characters, like Alex, maybe Marquess should bring back Danni! From what I saw of her, I loved.

So help me out here, which characters would Lee be interacting with?

It sounds like he will be interacting with the students. I hope Alex Carter is ready for fun moments with India...

I liked Danni too. The actress is still available -- she was on Corrie last month as a lawyer.

I'm so glad that the Osbornes aren't getting the pub back. I'm glad they're giving that to the new family. It's a good way to help make the place interesting again, and introduce new people.

Marquess aid he'd be a "mature" student, and given his age range, I'm sure he'll be interacting with a lot of people in his age group too.

The students on this show suck right now, but I wonder if Marquess plans on introducing a better group of students.

Of those who are staying I'm blanking on a lot of them. Is Rhys still in school? There's India.

Is Nancy still a student or is she now fully a teacher?

    • I’m thoroughly confused why she won’t say anything to Joss. Joss obviously has no intention of telling her.

    • Ted also stays at the hotel and Vernon is probably aware of that. As much as Ted wants to be back in Nicole's good graces he might feel obligated to tell if he saw Vernon coming out of a woman's room since keeping secrets got him in so much trouble before.
    • One more thing on Tuesday's episode, did anyone else notice the weird blocking? Belle and Eric were thanking Sarah, and worrying about Lyme Disease (which must be a red herring, I can't believe we're watching a PSA about inspecting for tics).  Then, Belle turned to EJ and threatened him with a lawsuit.  EJ acted as if he hadn't heard the entire conversation that was happening two inches away from him.   I like EJ, but a little of silly/mean EJ goes a long way.  His sarcasm during that scene felt out of place, regardless of Eric's presence.  When he bugs his eyes, and feigns innocence, it is a little too OTT for my taste.  I understand that he was the punching bag for most scenes, but EJ feels more mature than resorting to funny faces.  Isn't rather quick to worry about Stephanie's sales, she just debuted the book yesterday in their timeline?  And why is everyone against Jada and Theo?  Jada could use a boytoy, and this doesn't feel like a "forever" romance.
    • I dont think he knew Leslie was staying there. I know this is all for the drama and mess which Im here for, but Vernon really could have easily rented a small studio space where he and Sharon could practice lol.
    • I understand that no one could ever replace Bernau, but Ron Raines is somewhat of a different beast. Still great (to me) though. He spent his entire TV run in one role, that was impossible to do justice correctly.
    • Again, Bernau's illness impacted that. It's pretty obvious Pilon was always meant to be temporary. I read an article from that period that said he was working on both Ryan's Hope and GL at the same time. So he wasn't on contract for either show. (Maybe that explains somewhat why his performance was so low energy, because he was overworked doing two soaps). Later, they put him in the opening and in commercials for the show. That must have been because they were certain Bernau was not returning. Around that time, they approached Zaslow about being the permanent replacement for Bernau. He turned them down and suggested coming back as Roger. Pilon stayed so they could re-introduce Roger and write an exit for Alan. I'm guessing if MZ had not wanted to come back, they would have had no choice but to keep Pilon (which I don't think they wanted, or maybe Pilon wasn't interested) or send out a casting call for a new Alan. I think they wanted to avoid that because they were really determined not to let the nature of Bernau's illness to become public knowledge. At this point, they were still keepin up the fiction that he was going to return even while this stuff was happening BTS.   Yeah, it seems crazy now, but people forget how stigmatized AIDS was back then. I'm convinced the idea to ask Zaslow to take the role came about so they could replace Bernau as quietly as possible. Everyone would have been so surprised it would have taken the focus off Bernau not returning. It makes a kind of twisted sense. Still, thank goodness Zazlow said no and they said yes to his suggestion to return as Roger. The way everything worked out gave GL a few more strong years. I guess it's the nature of soaps, you never know what things in real life will end up strongly impacting the show, both negatively and positively. (Something just occurred to me. If Zazlow HAD said yes to playing Alan...he would have had to play being in love with Reva.
