Santa Barbara is a hard soap for me to get into. But i have been enjoying the episodes from late 1989. I like the rivalry between Gina and Laura. I find Ethan hot but dull but he did have chemistry with Gina and Laura. Walker,Martinez,Born and  Carrington are mesmerizing to watch. The canvas is very small for an hour soap. The Capwell's lacked warmth as a family unite. It's strange watching a soap with only one core family. In 1990 Mack. Ric, Sasha, Laura, Bunny and Phyllis are gone. The revolving door of characters really hurt SB. Another World also had this problem. But they were still smart enough to hold on to characters like Cass, Felicia and Donna to just name a few.

Victoria, the early years had a few families, the Lockridge clan was taken apart an rebuilt a lot. The Andrades dwindled to Santana and Rosa, with the Castillos becoming more prominent. The Perkins were gone mostly within a year. Gina's family, the Blakes, ebbed and flowed. Sister Summer was quickly murdered, Brother Mack came along for a while. Mom Phyllis, well, Stella Stevens was on and off for a bit. Niece Hayley was raped, then killed, and her daughter Lily left and came back.

The one family, made up of orphans, Steven, Ethan, Craig, Robert and Derek wanted revenge, but I considered them a family. Finally, there was the last breath family of Jodie and Reese Walker. They weren't on long before cancellation.

That has actually always been the story, part of it anyway.   JFP got them 2-3 episodes working together, which A & Marcy had been requesting.  It was a sequence where they got locked in a room together.   However, Marcy Walker wrote their backstory herself, their breakup on the Orient Express, etc...   It was a collaboration and JFP championed them.  In the original bible, it was intended to pair Cruz with Santana and Eden with Warren.

Actually Robert wasn't part of that storyline. It was Steven, Ethan, Craig, Derek and Cassandra. The 'boys' wanted revenge for Cassie for something or other regarding the Capwells of course. She in turn sabotaged all their efforts because she was in love with Mason. It was such a ball of confusion and nothingness.

    • I dont understand the motivation behind it. Eva is her link to Ted and the Duprees and without her, she has nothing. It would have served better for Eva to be all fed up with her and leave the house on her own and Leslie try to make amends bc she needs her for this comeup she's been talking about. Eva can repair her relationship with Ted and maybe build something with the Duprees and cut her out
    • So good today Dante is overreacting blaming gio Hopefully Danny will come clean
    • Not mad at Leslie Locking Eva out, I think it's important for the audience to see her on her own for a while. Curious how scrappy and savvy she becomes on her own. Yeah, I am with you there. It feels a bit hollow; maybe if she was talking to Martin and Kat I would feel better about it. There must be more to this story. Daphnee and Ambyr owned this episode. Tugging my heart in every scene. Nicole process hurt and anger much differently than Dani though.
    • I also really enjoyed Eva's scenes with Kat today. They have an interesting chemistry. I thought it really did feel a bit like sisters at conflict. Especially with the way that Eva was trying to convince Kat to forgive Ted and them both coming to the conclusion that the man they thought was their father was different wasn't who they really thought he was initially. And the way that Eva broke down when Kat said that she was dead to her was emotional stuff. I really do think that in spite of their conflict/bickering Eva really would have loved to have gained a sister, along with a brother, father, etc... Also, I thought it was interesting how Eva kept saying that she loves Ted and Nicole. That and Leslie mentioning that Kat/Eva are almost twins really does make me wonder if Kat may really be her twin and Nicole's as well. I would gladly welcome that outcome, even if it takes a while for it to come out. At this point Leslie doesn't deserve Eva as a daughter as far as I'm concerned. And I would forward to a storyline where we found out that she's Nicole's second baby girl, and all the complex and ultimately happy feelings that would bring Nicole. Eva/Kat could still have a rivalry, especially if Nicole ended up doing some more bonding with Eva. And then we could get the rest of the family's reaction to that as well.

What you NOT gonna do to me!
    • Bravo to every single person responsible for today's episode. From the writer on down to Kraft services. Yall I'm getting emotional but I wish my granny was here to have seen this soap since she was the one to introduce me to this medium.

    • Everything is fraught with confusion. Why is Leslie pleading with the Duprees to accept Eva? She's not biological family so what is this? She's the product of an affair with their in-law so Leslie wants them to accept her? I'm getting GOOD TIMES vibes of Leslie and Eva minus the physical abuse.
    • Big fan of today's writing. In particular, I like EJ complexity, crying over Johnny and conspiring at the same is tough to pull off in the same episode, but it goes very far in explaining EJ's motives. I don't hate the idea of Cat and EJ, and I especially appreciate everyone trying to warn her, but she is sticking to the plan. Boy oh boy, when Brandon Beemer wears a shirt that matches his eyes, I get lost in the screen!
