Not surprised Serena lost. She seemed injured and Muguruza is a good player. Serena is running on fumes. As soon as she gets 22 she is gone……just like Steffy did at the French Open….I see Serena maybe playing one more year and thats it.

Poor Thiem…..I thought he was going to win it all….now we are left with boring rope a dope tennis as many describe it with Murray and Novak…..I really hope Murray takes it just because Novak is the worst of two evils….LOL.  I can't stand Novak and how he continues to try to be popular with no success….he should have been disqualified anyways..when he almost hit the linesman with the tennis ball…he brushed it off after the match….heard he got angry….and then his behavior with the umpire and moving him away from the court…..some say it was pushing but since he is number 1 they are letting it slide again and saying it wasn't…whatever… Novak has the been the worst #1 the ATP tour has had…..he cries and yells because fans don't see him as more popular than his opponents

Blah can't stand him. I was hoping Murray would win. Hey at least the French now love him because the rest of the world doesn't ……LOL

He may have all the grand slams now but he will never have what he really wants….to be just as popular or more popular than Roger and Rafa….it will never happen.

Sharapova got a 2 year ban, backdated to January 2016

Decision in the case of Maria Sharapova

I can't say that I'm surprised, I knew it would have to be somewhere in the middle because of the profligacy of use of meldonium among the Russian athletes.  It was clearly part of a state sponsored system of doping but since the drug was only banned as of January 2016, I doubted the stiffest penalty would be implemented.  I guessed correctly (albeit to myself, because I tend to shy away from speculation).

Don't ask me what this means for her endorsements or her career.  Serena has already surpassed her in an area she once led for 11 years, the $$$ race.

Tennis Channel had the breaking news this morning. By the time the ban is lifted Serena will probably no longer be playing. Maria might as well just retire.

As for tennis….Stefan Kozlov beat pathetic Stevie Johnson in a tune up grass court tournament. Stefan is in the quarters…good for him.

Sharapova has announced that she is planning to appeal.  I read an article where an anti-doping agency insider said that they believe that a reduced ban is highly unlikely.  It's also interesting that the ITF requested a 4 year ban, realizing this, I think leniency has already been showed.

The report makes her look pretty bad, not just negligent.  The fact that she took extra doses before matches of "special importance" makes it look like she was taking it specifically to enhance her performance.  Most athletes that have illnesses and are being treated for them, usually disclose these illness and/or any medication that they are prescribed with the ITF.  When Roger Federer was diagnosed with mono years ago, he disclosed it with the ATP/ITF, when Venus Wiliams was diagnosed with Sjogren's Syndrome, she disclosed it with the WTA/ITF.  When Serena Williams had that pulmonary embolism and had to take blood thinners, she disclosed it with the WTA and ITF.  Same with Heather Watson when she had her bout with glandular fever and Laura Robson with mono and Ross Hutchins, Viki Duval and Alisa Kleybanova were all diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, they all disclosed it with the ITF and their respective tennis associations.

If Maria had a heart issue and was prescribed this medicine, why keep it a secret only between her father, Yuri and then in 2013 with her agent?  Why not disclose it with the ITF and the WTA?  And why was her agent monitoring the anti-doping list, not her doctor, physio or trainer?  Aga Radwanska and other players say they always share the list with their doctors.  The entire account given by Sharapova and her agent that was in report left me with more questions than answers.  I don't think that the ITF was buying what Sharapova was selling though.

By the way, there is a rumor that Varvara Lepchenko served a 'silent ban' for the use of meldonium.  She was asked this question outright during the French Open and refused to comment.

Tennis Channel was discussing it today and they mentioned how Maria didnt put on paper that she was taking meldonium. She is lucky she only got 2 years. I don't know why she is appealing it.

Exactly, thank you!  In the midst of the shallow defenses, her not disclosing this medication that she took for 10 years, makes it look like she has something to hide.

Her agent's ridiculous excuse that he didn't go on vacation due to his marital problems and therefore didn't look at the list of banned substances, as he usually does while on vacation (who does that??) does not pass the smell test.  Every other player said that the send the list to their doctors to look over to make sure. Belinda Bencic said she looks over her list and shares it with her doctor. Federer made a solid point yesterday when in an interview, he said that it is important that every player take personal responsibility for what goes into his/her body.  Sharapova made her press conference in March where she said she takes full responsibility, she messed up and I hope she is held accountable and they won't lower the ruling any further.

I think that WADA believes that 2 years is lenient, especially since the ITF petitioned for a 4 year ban.

Flavia looks gorgeous! She looks so much better than Berdych's trashy wife did with her underwear wedding dress..…LOL.

That would have been a great wedding to attend.

And Dominic Thiem is looking great again this week!

Murray has hired Lendl again as his coach. I am sure somewhere right now Tomas Berdych is yelling and screaming…LOL

Thiem has transitioned from clay to grass seemingly without missing a beat.  Wow!  Congrats to him on winning Stuttgart, his game is definitely on fire!

How long do you think Lendl and Murray will last this time?

Part of me feels a little sorry for Tomas.  I do think him initially taking on Dani Valleverdu was to try to entice Lendl to join his camp somehow.  I wonder why Lendl won't even consider Berdych.  Speaking of Berdych, yes, I remember that awful dress Ester Satarova wore for the wedding.  People are allowed to wear what they want and I'm no traditionalist but that dress was so unflattering in every conceivable way!  The woman looks like a model yet found a way to do the seemingly impossible- have a model physique and yet look terrible.

The rain is definitely not falling in Spain but it seems to be falling all over the other grass court tournaments elsewhere.  So many rain delays over the weekend and I read that today was no different, except for the women's tournament in Mallorca.  Process this one, Mallorca birthplace of the king of clay, Rafa Nadal as well as Carlos Moyá (Flavia's ex, by the way), one time French Open champ-- now home to a grass court tournament.  I heard both Moyá and Toni Nadal were there for the kick-off.  The tournament site looks beautiful though.

He is doing great!  There was an article today about Federer and how this might be the end for him because of his two loses against Thiem and his injures this year.

I'll say maybe 2 years with him. Did you hear what McEnroe said about Berdych during the French? He pretty much blasted him on not really wanting to win a major. I wonder if Berdych heard about it. And who is his new coach? I laughed when Mary Carillo said she had no idea who the man was coaching him….and Lyndsay Davenport said the same thing….LOLOL  He is a mystery man. I also noticed that once Valleverdu left….Berdych started wearing his wedding ring on his finger instead of his shoe lace. I found that odd and maybe telling?? And he started playing the tennis he should have been playing except in the Quarters where he ran out of gas...

I am loathe to count out any player, especially someone who has experienced winning as much as Federer.  Federer hasn't played a complete match in quite some time and a red hot Thiem is probably the player someone would least like to face after such a long layoff.  I remember when one journalist years ago, claimed that Serena would never win another major- hey, I bet some are saying that again this year.  About 5-6 years ago, one journalist even claimed that unless Serena got a breast reduction, it would curtail her chances of winning another major.  I just can't take some of these journos seriously!

Even though I felt a bit bad for Berdych, I can't think too much about him because he has been treading water, at best, since he made the finals at Wimbledon years ago. It would be one thing, if after basically underachieving for years, he then started to find his game and rise, like, say, Agassi but it's beginning to look as if Berdych has already peaked and even though he's still in the Top 10, he's stagnated and even falling backward at times.  Hey, it would be nice if someone could actually consistently challenge Djokovic (and I mean win matches against him on a regular basis).

And why the no-name coach?  Is he serious?  You don't need a celebrity coach or anything but gosh, couldn't  he try to find a Swedish coach that's free?  What's Peter Lundgren doing these days?  He steered Federer and Safin to Major titles-- has Berdych tried giving him a call?

    • Thanks again @Paul Raven Monica was completely without redeeming qualities at this point. I always found the whole Monica = Carly narrative regressive, as I don't think shows comparing characters so heavily is ever a great idea, but she's actually worse than Carly was. Was it the Pollocks who had Leslie have a miscarriage?  Giving her a child, especially by rape, was not a good idea, but a part of me wishes they'd committed to it just to see what story it might have had in later years.
    • @janea4old Your detailed explanation and delving into the psychology and motivations is no doubt the opposite of what we will see onscreeen. As @ranger1rg stated we will get a few scenes and some sketchy explanations. Like the adoption of Aria, most of it will take place off screen.
    • I'm suddenly fearful that DAYS is going to pull a Flowers-for-Algernon stunt and Bo's progress will be reversed.  While @te. is stuck on Abe's tiny bedroom, I can't stop thinking of the size of Bo's huge hospital room.
    • Okay, why are Paulina and Abe sleeping like that?!  I'd take a screen grab if I wasn't lazy, but come on.
    • All caught up on this week's episodes. Deidre Hall has done the best work of her career with this series of episodes. That is her tribute to Drake. Every acting choice has been perfect. From her reaction the moment John flatlined, to her snapping at Abe and Paulina (what a smart, realistic writing choice), to her grief playing the text message over and over. Josh Taylor did the best work of his career in the scene with Kayla telling him John had died. Everything about his facial expression, voice, pronunciation, everything was so different from what he usually does. He was overcome with the emotion of it and any of his acting tics disappeared. Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso were great. One thing I noticed with the flashbacks of John/Marlena and Bo/Hope is that Bo and Hope are constantly smiling at each other. The chemistry those two have cannot be faked. It's clear the writing team decided to clean up Bo and Hope and give fans a happy ending for them, neatly wrapped up in a bow. The juxtaposition of Bo and Hope reclaiming their happiness thanks to John, while Marlena is dealt life's harshest blow from John's sacrifice, was another great writing choice. Marlena even saying that to Eric, that she is paying for Bo's recovery with John's life, was such smart writing. Susan Seaforth Hayes was used very effectively between the two storylines. I really enjoyed the scene of Kate talking to Philip, calmly stating that she will make Xander pay. Overall, the show should be lining these episodes up for the Emmys and Deidre should be carefully choosing her scenes for her own reel. She deserves a Best Actress Emmy for this work. The first time I have felt that way about her work. Peter Reckell should submit himself for Guest for the scenes where he found out Victor is dead because he was genuinely heartbreaking. Josh Taylor should throw his name down for Supporting Actor for his scenes. The show deserves a Writing and Best Show for what they've done with the episodes around John and Bo. It was heavy stuff and I feel for the actors. I am so impressed with what they did.

Commander Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Both are highly intelligent, but rarely understood by the outside world. Both aim only to evolve, to be better than what they are. And both belong to the NFL. Data, who is actually Brent Spiner, was born February 2, 1949 in Houston, TX. He was the son of Sylvia, a corporate VP and Jack, a furniture store owner. When Jack suddenly died, Sylvia was left to raise infant Brent and his brother alone. She eventually remarried a man named Sol Mintz. Although Mintz adopted Brent, Brent changed his last name back to Spiner when he became a professional actor. Spiner attended Bellaire High School in Houston and was heavily involved in baseball and the drama club, in addition to being a member of the NFL. While on the speech team, he gained 143 points and even earned the title of Dramatic Interpretation Champion in at the 1967 National Tournament (the same year actress Shelley Long won Oratory). After his success in high school, Spiner moved on to the University of Houston and began performing in local theatre in Houston. Eventually he dropped out of college to move to New York City and try his acting luck there. While in New York, Spiner gained more stage acting experience, performing in several Broadway and Off-Broadway plays, including The Three Musketeers and Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George. In 1984, Spiner decided to try film acting and moved again, this time to LA, where he appeared in several pilots and made-for-TV movies. He then auditioned for the up-and-coming show Star Trek: The Next Generation. Spiner himself was never a fan of science fiction or of the original Star Trek, but figured the show would soon be cancelled and he desperately needed the money. Starting in 1987, Spiner played Data for 15 years, during the show’s 7 seasons and the four feature films that followed. Even when the show was cancelled in 1994, Spiner’s career as a performer barely paused. He is most remembered for his role in Independence Day as Dr. Okun, the somewhat awkward chief scientist of Area 51 who is attacked and killed by his alien subjects. He has also made appearances on Law & Order, Friends, Dude, Where’s My Car?, I Am Sam, and The Aviator. Spiner returned to the theatre and appeared in the Broadway revival 1776 as John Adams. Unlike most of his co-stars, Spiner is not very active in the Star Trek convention scene. He has made a few appearances, but overall his lack of interest in science fiction gets the best of him. However, he still regards Patrick Stewart and LeVar Burton as two of his best friends. One of the challenges forensicators face is finding the human element in their events; to not be robotic and detached, but simply themselves. It is this crucial element that separates the good from the great. As the character Data, Spiner sums up the NFL experience the best: “If being human is not simply a matter of being born flesh and blood – if it is instead a way of thinking, acting, and feeling, then I am hopeful that one day I will discover my own humanity. Until then…I will continue learning, changing, growing, and trying to become more than what I am.”   https://www.ign.com/articles/2002/12/09/an-interview-with-brent-spiner https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1992-02-17-ca-1835-story.html https://www.discogs.com/artist/1224629-Brent-Spiner?srsltid=AfmBOorfw9Nl3EZ4fc-plhbgU3ng2bSQTruygkdJxZgsPquzQ6sBhCbj     Leslie Charleson    pg. 435   PILOTS/PROPOSALS ANOTHER APRIL      April Weston Moss   1974    (Made for T. • For anyone who missed the end of Friday June 6 due to news interruption, the last five minutes of every episode is uploaded to the official GH facebook late in the evening, usually around 11:30pm Eastern. Here's the end of that episode: https://www.facebook.com/generalhospital/videos/3649028845342563
    • Thanks so much for posting this. Since they had retconned Roger/Holly's relationship after his return as being "Roger was always in love with Holly" when it was actually the other way around, they kept up this narrative in this video. Understandable, but it still bugs me. Holly was never his "heart." That's baloney. He only married her to be in Christina's life and was screwing other women like Diane and Hillary the whole time. Peggy was truly the only woman that Roger ever loved, and even that wasn't a very healthy relationship. Holly only really fell out of love with Roger after she realized she loved Ed while they were divorcing. I'm glad he reminded people that the rape scenes were taped in a day. It's amazing what they accomplished with very little rehearsal. That scene still has great impact after all these years. And OMG, watching the scenes of Roger's return in comparison...the quality in the writing really nosedived. The stupid mask. (I love the way they joke about the mask at the end). Alan's insanely over-the-top reaction to his return when Roger had no hold against him anymore. Yikes, one of the worst things Long did while she was still writing the show, though I will cut her a break since she absolutely had a tough task bringing back a guy who fell off a cliff.
    •   Thanks! You reminded me I did not remember to add in the preemptions for the dark weeks, since those are not listed on the sortable charts, so these are the additional preemptions per newspaper listings and Vanderbilt News for the 1973-1978 dark weeks. I have added them in to the full lists above.   8/26/74-8/30/74 Another World Wednesday episode- 3:04PM (26 minutes) 8/26/74-8/30/74 Doctors Preempted Wednesday- Ford News Conference 8/26/74-8/30/74 Edge of Night Preempted Wednesday- Ford News Conference 12/22/75-12/26/75 As the World Turns Preempted Friday- Sun Bowl 12/22/75-12/26/75 Guiding Light Preempted Friday- Sun Bowl 12/22/75-12/26/75 Search for Tomorrow Preempted Friday- Sun Bowl 12/22/75-12/26/75 Young and the Restless Preempted Friday- Sun Bowl 8/22/77-8/26/77 Doctors Preempted Tuesday- Carter News Conference 8/22/77-8/26/77 Guiding Light Preempted Tuesday- Carter News Conference 8/22/77-8/26/77 One Life to Live Preempted Tuesday- Carter News Conference (possibly aired just 3-315PM) 4/24/78-4/28/78 Another World Preempted Tuesday- Carter News Conference 4/24/78-4/28/78 General Hospital Preempted Tuesday- Carter News Conference 4/24/78-4/28/78 Guiding Light Tuesday ep- 230-3PM (30 minutes) 6/26/78-6/30/78 Edge of Night Preempted Monday- Carter News Conference 12/25/78-12/29/78 Another World Preempted Monday- (Local Fill) & Fiesta Bowl 12/25/78-12/29/78 As the World Turns Preempted Monday- Peach Bowl 12/25/78-12/29/78 Guiding Light Preempted Monday- Peach Bowl
    • Breakdown writers can pitch stories and obviously they have influence over what is included in the breakdown but MVJ is the final decision maker. It depends on the faith you have in MVJ if you feel Carlivati is going to be a problem. I don't think a throwaway having a book author named after him is a sign he's taken over the show. Most people didn't even catch the reference.
