DAYS: Stefano - This Makes No Sense!

If Heifer's gonna bring back Stefano, he's going to have to connect it to the last time we "saw" Stefano---on Tony's island.

Oh HELL no!!

Kenny's right. I don't want to go anywhere near that island story again.

If Hogan wants to rewrite and ignore that ever happened, it's fine by me.

Fine by me too.

Yet if JER wanted to rewrite or ignore history, you'd be moaning about it ad nauseum.

Yeah well here is the difference Rion:

When JER re-wrote history, none of it made sense and he was mostly re-writing good stuff that had no business being re-written. For example, he re-wrote history and made Tony Stefano's son, which is despised.

On Passions, he re-wrote nearly everything about KMART. It's pretty sad when you re-write even your own stories and butcher them. Not only that but Passions is only going on 8 years old and to already be re-writing things left and right is dumb and shows lack of creativity.

The other difference is Hogan would be re-writing one of the worst stories in Days and daytime history. It has been hard for Days to be take seriously even since this crap. It was worst then Garden of Eden and some of us never thought we would ever see anything worse then that nonsense. Sometimes you can look past re-writing something and this is one of those times. That story was horrible and the whole Stefano thing was nothing but a gimmick and a cheal movie knockoff that you would normally see on Passions. In fact, it was basically JER recycling his knockoff of Psycho that he did with the Norma character. Again, lack of creativity.

I am perfectly ok with Hogan attempting to forget that story and time period and trying to wipe it from our minds. I cringe even thinking about all that crap we were given.

You're wrong. Garden of Eden was the worst. The Salem Stalker/Melaswen storylines were throwbacks to the 80s and 90s, and were ACTUALLY ENTERTAINING.

And please don't compare what JER does on Passions to what he's done on Days. It weakens the argument.

  • Member

Weakens the argument?

He wrote for both shows at the same time and was recycling plots left and right. It strengthens the argument.

The SSK rocked and the whole story crashed and burned once they got to the island. The story was horrible and if it weren't JER writing it you would feel the same way Rion.

I may be wrong, but I thought we last saw Stefano walking through Salem Place and saying something sarcastic to Belle and Shawn as he left. He was wearing a tropical outift as if he were going on a vacation. Anyone else remember this?

Thank god Hogan is writing the show now is all I can say.

I could never watch JER's writing. Talk about insulting.

Yeah KBT-that was the last time we saw him in the flesh.

He then said something about returning one day to manipulate their generation just like he did their parents or something like that. He got in a car with Bart and then drove away. It was in 2001 I beleive.

Exactly how I remember it, just making sure as I hope Stefano returns and wrecks some havoc on Salem again sometime in the NEAR future.

Seriously, I cannot believe JERk actually has an Emmy.

We've visited that before, but...

JER's sole Emmy was not for any of his work for Days. It was for his work on Guiding Light in the early 90s, in which case:

1) he was only a co-Head Writer as Guiding Light was a collective effort for at least 2 years after Pam Long left.

2) there was absolutely NO way Reilly would have been able to write what he wrote on Days or Passions, because he had nowhere near the same freedom on GL that he would enjoy on Days or Passions.

Please do not suggest that Melaswen had anything in common with the 80's adventures.

I'm going to have to revisit my dinner after that.

And if he did do all this, why did he not tell Tony that Kristen was alive? After all, Tony's entire motive for the Salem Stalker scheme was to get revenge on John for taking Kristen from him and eventually causing Kristen's "death".

This story has so many holes in it that it's not entertaining at all.

Exactly! That is the one part that is annoying me. Everything thing else could be explained. Why Stefano wouldn't tell Tony makes no sense.

Some time back, someone posted the following (I'm paraphrasing here):

JER was brought back to "Days" to bump up the ratings, cut the budget, and save a dying show. He said that people had to be forced to "take the show seriously again." So he came up with the Salem Stalker storyline, in which vital characters would be murdered. Abe. Jack. Maggie. Caroline. Cassie. Roman. Victor (murdered by Jan). Tony. Doug. Alice. After Tony was killed, we knew Marlena was the villain. JER and Drake and Deidre and Ken Corday kept promising that this would have several chapters and would ultimately be a John & Marlena love story. Someone here said that the goal was to kill everyone and then treat Marlena for her breakdown. But the fans turned off the show, and Corday threw in the towel. He forced JER to bring everyone back, so JER ditched his original plans and hastily threw together the insulting Melaswen island story as well as the tsunami and castle captivity. (Corday claims Frances Reid at least knew that she was not being fired for real; Frances Reid, on the other hand, said in an interview that this wasn't the case.)

If this is really what happened, I kinda feel sorry for JER. Even though I HATED losing those characters (I was sick to my stomach when Maggie died), the story was interesting and the acting was so well done. Then it's like JER got pissed off and just quit trying. After the big Captive Island reveal, everyone started "dying." Then the castle. Then Jack & Madison. Then Jack's many deaths. Then the repetitive dialogue got even worse than before. The flashbacks got worse than before. He gave us no payoff when Mickey chose Maggie (it took several months and then happened in about 30 seconds). He threw Marlena and Alex together, continued to pair Bo with Billie, royally screwed up the quad with the embryo switch and the Shawn/Belle baby (Claire), and then had Carrie marrying Lucas and having sex with him while fantasizing about Austin. Everything got so weird that it felt like nothing could be unraveled and saved. It really seemed like he was trying to destroy the show. I wonder if he just didn't give a damn anymore.

I didn't find SON until right after JER left. What's the real story, guys?
