Y&R: What one storyline would you like to see canned?/Which is your favorite storyline

Here's another problem with Y&R that this week's SOW pointed out in their "Hit... or Miss!" column: there are too many stories revolving around unsolved mysteries right now.

Yes, it's like when Harding Lemay came to Another World and every dramatic situation was based on a secret. This Nazi woman will get sacked soon. Very soon. Or so I hope. The ratings haven't gotten up that much, and they are quite wavy, plus there's much more negative fan feedback then in the previous regime.

The Brad storyline, waste of airtime.

Anything with Nick & Phyllis, these two literally put me to sleep, there's no drama or anything with these two. Phyllis has been turned into a stepford wife and is one of the most boring characters on the show right now.

I love the Jack storyline with him owning Jabot, and Nikki & Victor finding out, and I love the Winters' storyline.

Sylph, thats untrue about the ratings. If you look on the ratings pay, they're up about 750,000 viewers from this time last year. They have been rising all year and Y&R has even been getting 6 million viewers for various episodes during the week. You may dislike her stories, but give credit where credit is due and the ratings are up.

It's not like a primetime show (like DH) where a writing revamp is going to be heavily promoted. Latham is bringing in the viewers without any special promotion, just based on what she's giving the viewers.

Least Favorite Story: This is easy, Brad's past! It had an excellent build up, we were all finally interested in his character, then we got that reliquary crap. The inconsistant writing for Gloria, Neil (in regards to Carmen) and Jack also would be disappointing things for me.

Favorite Story: Jill and Katherine's big return! I know it's still early and there are other things I could've picked, but this has had an amazing build up and from spoilers looks like it could remain solid. Plus, how long as it been since these two brilliant actresses were given something decent to work with? I also am loving the Jill/Will/GloHo triangle.

You are talking about total viewers, but I read recently on a Usenet group that networks care only about ratings (that is, 4.4 in Y&R case), probably because totals are even less accurate then the ratings. OK?

Yes it's true that the networks care more about HHs and demos, but Y&R is also #1 in most of those as well. But regardless of what the network is most interested in, I think bringing in that many viewers with no special promotion in the time when the entire ABC lineup is hitting record lows should be commended.

Well, you answered to yourself. All those who are disappointed to say the least with ABC’s daytime line-up came to CBS and started watching Y&R. So, she didn't bring new viewers, those who haven’t watched the soap for a time or not at all. As she said, she only brought her son and some of his friends.

I wish they would do more with Mr. Kim. He is an interesting character.

I love the Victor - Jack storyline involving the business.

I hope Mr. Kim takes over for real.

Please please please get rid of George/Brad/Mr. Killer Thighs Carlton!!! :P I can tolerate every other SL. In fact, LML needs to have Victoria hook up with Professor Korbel. Imagine the tension between Victoria and Colleen!

I'm looking forward to the Katherine/Jill SL coming up. Anything with those two is (usually) worth watching. :)

CBS has four soaps, NBC has two, including the newly improved Days of Our Lives. Y&R gaining 700,000 viewers (with no promotion) is huge and to say it has nothing to do with Latham is ridiculous, IMO. There is a noticable change in the show and while the opinion has been mixed, it's obviously bringing in the viewers. Yes ABC's failure (and SOAPnet) may have gotten the viewers to sample Y&R, but they've been sticking around and gaining over the year. I don't see the other CBS soaps gaining such a large amount of new viewers. A good example would be OLTL which is dreadful, ATWT hasn't picked up all of those viewers.

BTW, I'm not sure what you mean about her son and his friends. I don't think she has a son. Do you mean her husband Bernie?

I think she mentioned a son or something in one interview, I’ll try to dig it up, Chris.
