All My Children to Launch Weekly Podcast

Starting on Monday, Sept. 4, All My Children will launch a special free, weekly video podcast, available on both ABC.com and iTunes.

"For the first time, fans will have intimate access to exclusive cast and guest star interviews as they are taken behind the scenes," AMC's executive producer, Julie Hanan Carruthers, said in a statement. "The video podcast will provide an enhanced fan experience, allowing our loyal viewers to become equally as intimate with the actors as they have already become with the characters they play."

Just so we're clear, AMC is not podcasting actual episodes of the soap. They're just offering up fun extra goodies from backstage. The premiere podcast will include an interview with teen pop star Jesse McCartney (ex-JR, AMC), who'll perform at that soapy sweet 16 party I told you about.

I have a feeling Cady McClain fought for this to happen, as she's a podcasting nut...ha

Anyway - cool...I'll check it out.

I'd rather TPTB stop with the gimmicks and devote their time to making this show watchable again.

Interesting...they discontinue SoapTalk, but then put interviews and behind the scenes information on IPOD. Unless the show becomes watchable and worth being loyal to, it's not gonna matter how many different venues they can air it.

It's just a step towards paying per soap viewing, which is where Disney is headed.

The first podcast, while including a Jesse interview, primarily follows Ambyr Childers and Taylor Gildersleeve (Colby and Syndey) around. No thanks.

Um, I can't believe that will ever happen. Unlike primetime and most syndicated shows, soaps come on EVERY week day. (Except on some holidays and special occasions). Most fans couldn't afford -- and it wouldn't be cost effective, even for entertainment -- to buy some 200 episodes a year!
