My comments:

WTF?

I have for the most part always supported JHC, as bad as the show has been under her reign. I now have to remove that support. This is the stupidest thing I've seen since yesterday's AMC.

"We want to embrace that spirit at All My Children by offering our audience, for the first time ever, the chance to follow the characters as they move through the emotional journeys of their lives."

Umm....call me crazy folks but....ummmm....hasn't following the characters through the emotional journeys of their lives kinda been the whole premise of the show since....you know...it began....over three decades ago? I know I know I'm probably way off on this but I sorta thought it was.

Someone please enlighten me. Was I the only one who somehow actually got picture on my screen? Have the rest of you all been watching a black screen and just hearing the audio for the past 36 years?

"We look forward to offering viewers access to even more unexplored corners of Pine Valley in the future"

Oh god no. That's a threat right?

These cameras are traditionally cheaper

That's what I figured. Good ol' frugal AMC.

F*ck you Julie.

I'm a JHC supporter too - I like her.

But I cannot support this new look. It's looks awful.

All the new filiming tecnique does is make my stomach queasy.

Worst production decision a soap has ever made.

My dad even saw it the other night and was like WTF?

I actually like the look too, but I just think Julie's comments are idiotic. If you're going to do PR spin at least have it make sense. This makes no sense.

LOL! I can't believe they're using Steadi-Cam!

The whole point of Steadi-Cam is that it keeps the camera and the picture --brace yourselves-- steady while the cameraman moves around. Anybody who ever saw Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" will know what I'm talking about because they used Steadi-Cam throughout the movie, weaving around and following characters up darkened hallways, etc. There was no shakiness. Only movement. Steady movement.

This AMC shakiness is just pretentious [!@#$%^&*].

"Guiding Light" tried this briefly about a year ago with a series of scenes and it didn't go over well at all. It made me nauseous. I feel sorry for "All My Children" viewers when I flip by it on SoapNet.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm technically challenged but I too was wondering why the "steadi" cam was "shaky". That's interesting about The Shining.

I kind of like the shaking...to an extent. Sometimes its way too much though.

Exactly!!!

What AMC is using is NOT a steady cam. LOL

Shaking of the camera should only be used for intense situations......not someone walking down a hallway! LOL

Yeah, but have you ever used a steady cam and tried to run around the way AMC's cameramen do? It shouldn't stay steady if they are running around after the skanks of PineValley. They need to stop the walking around the whole set.

It is similar to the way Gloria Monty destroyed the form - by using filmic tools in soap operas, which are more akin to theatre. Don't get me wrong, she did many great things, but some of them really damaged the genre.

I'm just wandering whose idea was this thing, and why did the directors and director of photography agree. Soaps are a slow genre with lots of long scenes, and steady cams are usually used for dynamic tracking shots, like in The West Wing, for example.

It looks like it's much ado about nothing. I reliably heard because of the negative reaction, they are going back to the traditional format in the fall when the tweens are back in school. I don't know what to feel about it, I don't mind the new look at all, but I guess going back to what was for 36 years won't be difficult.

That's too bad (IMO). Again I liked it (some days were better than others but with time I think it would have smoothed out I think). My only complaint is JHC's "explanation". We've always been following the characters on their emotional journeys. I always had high regard for JHC but her comments are laughable.
