  1. Indeed, Holly for Nicole & Parker for Chloe! DAYS has the worst mothers in daytime. Yes, among many others Sheri has written on Ron's team.
  2. As a courtesy I am posting this here in the Search for Tomorrow discussion thread. SFT KATHY'S ABORTION In 1964 on "Another World" Pat Randolph had soap's first abortion, illegally. In 1970 New York state legalized abortion on demand without a residence requirement. In 1971 with Courtney Sherman Simon playing Kathy Parker & her future husband Peter Simon playing Scott Phillips "Search For Tomorrow" had soap's first legal abortion. On Jan. 22, 1973 the SCOTUS decision on Roe v. Wade made abortion on demand legal in the whole country. Sometime not long after that Erica on "All My Children" had a legal abortion. Earlier this year in my Facebook soap forum, SOAPS:THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY, we were discussing people not remembering that "Another World" had the first abortion. In the Young & the Restless" primetime event celebrating their anniversary of being on the air, it was said that Ashley Abbott had the first. She did not. Often it is said that Erica had the first without adding "legal" which is what makes it accurate. Just then a poster, Lance Jackson, added that no one ever seemed to remember it but Kathy on "Search For Tomorrow" actually had the first legal abortion in 1971. I began then to try to find out more about this. I messaged Courtney Sherman Simon who played Kathy with the basic query & she immediately affirmed that yes, she'd had an abortion & it was in 1971 & she guessed Procter & Gamble just wasn't as into putting that stuff out in the press as much as Agnes Nixon was. However, she also said she had nothing to prove it, not a script nor anything in print. One of the members of my forum team, DM James Fairbanks found a "Daytime TV" magazine ©1977 dedicated entirely to "Search for Tomorrow". On page 59 is the following paragraph. Without realizing it Scott and Kathy began to fall in love. Scott and Laurie separated and eventually divorced. But Kathy was liberated and didn't want children. Scott felt she would change her mind. On the day he proposed, Kathy told Scott she had an abortion the day before. Search For Tomorrow. (1977). Daytime TV Library Series No. 7. I typed up that page of storyline synopsis & asked a discussion thread devoted to "Search For Tomorrow" if they could date the events & someone immediately affirmed 1970-71. Donna L. 4. I believe Sheri Anderson already has. Of course we won't see it till Jan. So you see Dimitri married to Gwen & having an affair with Andrew? Yes, I can imagine that.
  5. This is the one thing I have not seen also. Are soap actors prohibited from promotion?
  6. Leo Stark is gay & unlikely to be in a rootable couple. Dimitri is gay & unlikely to be in a rootable couple. Chanel is fluid & unlikely to be in a rootable couple. To you that is enough LBGTQ+ characters? Because to me, no, that is nothing like enough.
  7. Yes, I agree with that. However, it seems unreasonable to me that they are separate, different contracts with different terms & the only reason I can think of that might apply would be their once being separate unions & this being a vestigial organ like the appendix! But, it may not be. May just be a mystery.
  8. I was thinking about the threat that they want to hire writers by the day & by the week & do away with the 13-week work cycle. Imagine if a producer was hired to produce the opening credits, only, another the closing credits, then 6 producers to produce 20 minute each of a 2-hour film, I wonder if then they would see how ridiculous an idea it would be to hire writers like day laborers where you drive up in your pick-up & grab 2-5 people to go write for that day!! Don't you think that is a holdover from when they were two separate unions?
  9. I'm just tickled Gina Tognoni is such a hit! All this recast wishing is just that, wishing. 🙄😉🧼
  10. I've been really concerned about him ever since he did Mo's State of Mind because he strongly indicated that he wanted one doctor to take care of everything & he's got a brain bleed, he's an addict, he's bipolar & something else that I've forgotten. But I remember that it was 4 things. And, they just call for specialists.
  11. So, what about "as foxy as can be"?
  12. 🤔😲🙄😏😉🤣📋✅ Dayum. You might be right. Joss seems only able to hold onto 2 or 3 ideas at a time. Giving up her Sonny vendetta is probably why she came up with this sudden insight. Room to think.
  13. Good catch! I've also got to add Christopher Rich, Ving Rhames & IMDb says Helen Slater & Giancarlo Esposito & Wm. H. Macy. Anyone recall those three?
  14. This is a list of actors who appeared on AW who later went on to have success in primetime or film or the theatre. Do you know of anyone not on this list, who should be? Thanks. ANOTHER WORLD: Christine Baranski, Amy Carlson, Marcia Cross, Charles Durning, Kathyrn Erbe, Faith Ford, Morgan Freeman, Kelsey Grammer, Michael Gross (1981), Jackee Harry, Melissa Joan Hart, Anne Heche, Audra Lindley, Ray Liotta, Lindsay Lohan, Nancy Marchand, Rue McClanahan, Julian McMahon, Chris Noth, Luke Perry, James Pickens, Jr., Brad Pitt, Nicolas Pryor, Eric Roberts, Kyra Sedgwick, John Saxon, Ted Shackelford, Susan Sullivan, Dolph Sweet, Ann Wedgeworth, Billy Dee Williams
  15. Thanks, @robbwolff. Your last sentence, of course, is why this is simply staggering. I have just placed an order for a copy of that book.
  16. Can you point me to anywhere I can read about plans to do a 90 minute show for DAYS? Of all that I've read & heard & taken note of about Fred Silverman's pushing the 90 minute show on AW I have yet to ever see any mention of doing it with any other soap. And, we've talked before about their starting the process with DOC after they expanded first AW & then DAYS to one hour, but that they never pursued it any further with DOC. I'm not saying I dispute this, only that I have no information on it.
  17. No, I think the live episode on "Tootsie" really happened, however I do not recall the details. The director there is for Gloria Monty.
  18. That's exactly what the show presents, add to it that they play some of it for laughs, and it's just not good enough. So, today Nurse Whitley finally stated her purpose. She loves Abe & is the only one who can take care of him. Yes, those shades of "Misery" and #1 fan come through. But, it's totally whack. Theo's speech is lovely. Wait, is this history Chanel brings true? Nurse King was a political supporter, etc.? Okay, so, there is a history. What is it the show is doing with music lately?! That funky suspenseful music leading to Lani being at Jerry's door. Then another unusual bit leading to Abe being at the door IN B&S. This is a double Alaar day.
  19. Well, he absolutely said 'benzos. I am perplexed. Did he tell her he was giving her one thing but actually give her something different?!! Can't stand seeing Sasha high as a kite as well as manic in buying things like crazy & speaking very fast & a lot & maybe some delusions of grandeur. I'm a non-violent person & I want to smash Quack Doc & Gladys's heads together like a 3 Stooges routine. Love Miz Wu & only want to make her hair stay in place. I don't understand what Cody Bell did & why. Loving Kristina & her dialog is top notch. "cautionary tale about waiting too long to have babies" is exactly what medical people say to women suffering with endometriosis. If you'd only gotten pregnant when you were 16, blah blah blah. And Molly is way defensive. Doesn't even get to have the worst thing that has ever happened to her be about herself. @AbcNbc247 You think the problem with Sprina is Jex? I don't see that. I think it's a good sign that the girls are having girl talk again. I was pleased that Joss understands that part of Spence's problem with Dex is really about her & the way she mistreated & cheated on Cam. That showed more insight than I realized she'd had. But, I don't understand what Dan & Chris are up to with their young potential supercouple. Okay, so they have to have hurdles, roadblocks but Esme & Portia are not good ones. And I think putting off consummation is just unrealistic. They're squandering all the Greenland momentum.
  20. Oh, hell, sure, I miss Carrie, too! And, this is weird, in #SoapTwitter there's a guy who says he'd love having Gina on board but as BILLIE! A brother from another mother shares your way of thinking. I've got a feeling it's not that great a sign we have so many wants from the good ole days instead of all these newbies that seem to breed like cockroaches.
  21. @carolineg Yes, you're right. Sami is different, very, not at all like the situation with Paul. I believe every role can be recast but not all roles should be. It's possible Sami is one of those. Two things bug me. I think we need Sami & Allyson is never going to be available enough. And, I miss Adrienne. I know Judi loves playing Bonnie, but chile, I miss Adrienne. So, it's just hope springs eternal. He wants to be the diversity HW & Salem to be the diversity town. I keep thinking they'll get it right. And, I'd love to see Gina working somewhere. Van Hansis, too.
  22. Are Susan Keith & James Kiberd still married? Seeing them both on the list, it made wonder.
  23. I want them to recast Sami with Gina Tognoni. And, I want Sami to come home, bringing Sydney with her & I want Sydney to be gay. I'm not asking much.
  24. Okay, I've got someone writing up this whole mag for content posting. I'm happy to share here if you want it. I'll make this, the first post & you let me know if you want more. Search For Tomorrow. (1977). Daytime TV Library Series No. 7. Between 1975 and 1977, Daytime TV Magazine, the leading publication dedicated to US daytime programs, began a series of special editions dedicated specifically to one serial. In early 1977, they released issue #7 which focused on the longest running serial at that time, “Search for Tomorrow”. The publication contained interviews with key cast members and productions staff, such as the producers, directors, writer and costume designer. It included a synopsis of the story from origin to that point, lots of pictures and a key item: What it took to make an episode of the show. At the time, SFT was enjoying a revitalization after four years mediocre ratings. The new producer, Mary-Ellis Bunim rose up the ranks from secretary to producer in late 1973. Under her guidance, ratings jumped. In the 1973-1974 ratings, “Search” placed 9th with a 7.7. In the 1974-1975 season, it rose to a 4th with a 9.4. At the time of this edition, it hovered around 5th with an 8.6 rating, winning its time period and coming in third of the five CBS soaps. Some of the questions posed were: What did the title mean to the actors? What is your opinion about the Emmys? What character would they want to switch with? Did the actors feel there was a bias against acting on a soap? When did you start on the show? What motivates your character? I will cover some here & some in other articles. Today I will cover how the show got on the air: The Show On The Air – Step by step how SFT got on the air in 1976. At the time, “Search for Tomorrow” was taped at the CBS Studio 51 & 54 on the lower West Side of Manhattan (probably the studio at W. 26th Street that was a later home to “Guiding Light”). 8:00 AM – The director of the day (there were three at the time), the production assistant and actors in the first act arrive. Actors arrived based on the acts they were in between 8:00 AM and 9:45 AM and went to the rehearsal hall. 9:00 AM – Makeup artist and hair stylist arrive (there was one of each except for special episodes where full cast were part of the episode). 9:00 AM – Makeup artist and hair stylist arrive (there was one of each except for special episodes where full cast were part of the episode). 9:30 AM – Producer Mary-Ellis Bunim and Associate Producer Bob Getz arrive and go to their offices on the second floor. 9:45 AM – 10:15 AM – Director of the day checks sets in studio on the third floor. Actors begin make-up and hair sessions. 10:15 AM – 11:45 AM – This is the time for first rehearsal on set (called FAX) with cameras. Blocking and camera angles are perfected. 11:45 AM – 12:15 PM – First run-through in studio. Producer and associate producer watch action in their office via CCTV. Rough edges are smoothed out. 12:15 PM – 12:45 PM – Actors lunch break. Notes made by producer and associate producer during run through are given to director in production office. 1:00 PM – 1:20 PM – Directors give notes to actors and studio personnel. Final touches to actors’ hair and make-up. 1:30 PM – 2:00 PM – Dress rehearsal. Producers watch on CCTV and make final notes. 2:00 PM – 2:15 PM – Producers give final notes to directors in control room. 2:15 PM – 2:30 PM – Final notes given to actors and studio personnel by director. Notes on production elements (i.e., does liquor look real? Are props in assigned locations?) given by associate producer. 2:30 PM – 3:00 PM – Taping the episode. (SFT taped only two days before air). 3:00 PM – 3:15 PM – Tapes are checked. If all is OK, cast is excused. Thus, “Search for Tomorrow” put on a show in LESS than SEVEN AND A HALF HOURS! This time does not include the homework the actors and directors have to do before arriving at the studio. Directors stated it took eight to twelve hours of homework for every episode they direct. The producer has to spend time reading rough drafts and editing scripts, making notes for the writer, working on long-term story and character development. The associate producer spends outside office hours, organizing all facets of production elements and making sure they are all intact. On a daily basis, auditions are held, attendance at script consultations and going over the following day’s schedule. With luck, the producer can leave the studio between 6:00 and 7:00 PM.
